Hard disk speed and Nero 7
Date: 01/11/06
Keywords: google
Hi folks,
Can anyone recommend a program for benchmarking hard disk speed in Windows? I know I can check Google, but I'm after personal recommendations.
I thought Nero had a tool for this, but having checked in 6.6 I can only see tools for checking the speed of CD and DVD drives.
On another topic, has anyone upgraded to Nero 7? Is it any better, or just bloated with more useless features?
TIA

ID3 editor and Renaming App?
Date: 12/29/05
Keywords: no keywords
I wonder if anyone out there might know of an app that would make managing my music files a bit easier. First, I'm looking for an app to edit ID3 tags. I'm using "ID3 TagIT 3" right now, which is just something I grabbed off of Download.com. If you know of something that's easier and faster to use, I'd be much obliged.
Another thing I'm looking for is a program that will allow me to rename batches of files in a particular scheme. For instance, I've been ripping an audio book, and renaming the mp3s to match up with disk and track number. I'll even use a command line utility if it gets the job done.
Thanks for all your help.

What WILL our heroes do??

Does anyone out there play Freedom Force?
I've been trying to install it to my laptop, running XP Pro w/ SP2, and it doesn't want to run "under this version of Windows," even when patched. I've tried both the v1.2 and the v1.3 patches.
Does SP2 hate Freedom?

Concurrent Access (In Access)
Date: 11/16/05
Keywords: software, database
Hello.
In an effort to speed up the process (and eliminate the amount of dead tree used) in the course of monitoring my work, I decided to not bother with the paper forms my precessor had been using.
I decided that a Access Database was the way forward (simple to use, and the Access software is on all the computers at work here). For the first couple of weeks I was here, this worked fine, as there was only me using it, and it was on 'my' network drivespace. This morning I was granted access to the shared filespace. This meant that myself and my colleague will be able to use the database.
Now, the problem I have is that sometimes, things that he has entered don't show up, and things that I have altered don't show up. I have had a look at 'help', and it suggested using 'Records -> Refresh' to make any changes show up. I added a button to the form (which looks like this) to make this simpler.
I'm not 100% convinced that this is working 100% of the time. Is there a way of forcing the database to refresh itself, so that the most recent version of the table containing the data is always the most recent?

Powerpoint -> Flash
Date: 10/30/05

Hello.
A friend of my father's would like to convert a MS Powerpoint Presentation to Macromedia Flash file. Does anyone know if it is possible, and simple? Ideally it would be free, and as I don't imagine that he is overburdened with technical skill, the simpler the better.
Cheers.

I'm looking for a web resource that has shortcut sheets or cheat sheets for software, specifically QuarkExpress 6.5 and/or InDesign. I've googled for this program and other programs before, but I can never find what I'm looking for. Anyone know of some offhand?? Thanks!!!

Basic HTML editor
Date: 09/12/05
Keywords: software, html
Hi folks,
Another one from me :-)
I am after some very simple HTML editing software. Something akin to Notepad, but which has support for and will add basic HTML e.g. bold, underline, italics. As well as this, also has the ability to display the result, ideally in an updated preview pane.
Is there such a thing?
TIA

MyProgs.net

Keywords: rss, software
Hello!
There's a new folksonomy software project - MyProgs.net.
You can store there list of programs you use, but the real point is something much more interesting:
You can easily find new / interesting / popular software in various categories, track after specific categories and many other things, like always knowing when your friend or colleague found another interesting program.
For example, here is my list: MyProgs.net/kuchin
There is also RSS support :)
