Internet Radio Software
Date: 07/25/07
(Computer Geeks) Keywords: software
Does anyone have any recommendations for software to create Internet radio shows?
I suppose I'm looking for something that can take a huge library of MP3 files, let me queue them up as if they were in multiple CD players, trigger them at the right time, fade them in/out, mix them, mix in microphone input, external inputs, sound bytes, drops, and the like.
I spent 9 years working on-air in radio, but that was in the 80's and early 90's when we had 2-track cart machines and a big mixing board.
Anything that simulates this on a PC and can either stream the output to a sound card or, better, an OGG or MP3 stream and/or record to hard drive in real time, for a 3-hour show?
I suspect anyone who knows of software to do this knows exactly what I'm asking for...

Sound problem
Date: 07/26/07
(Computer Help) Keywords: software, web
Alright I will try not to be confusing..
I am having a HUGE problem with sound/video on my computer.
It skips & sounds distorted during windows startup and also during the first few seconds of playing a new song on itunes. Also sounds distorted when I get random sounds from IM's or websites.
On streaming video sites like youtube, the video will sometimes(almost all the time) run in slow motion as will the sound. If the sound is distorted, the video will run in slow motion. Sometimes the video will run fine but the sound will still skip.
Things that I have done to try to fix it:
-Going to gateway.com and downloading a sound driver update (didn't work)
-pushing ctrl, alt, delete to try and close down some processes after suggestion by geek squad member at Best Buy who told me that I should only have 30-40 processes working at one time. I had 43 but besides explorer, aim, and itunes, nothing else was taking up a lot of space.
It's a 2005 gateway laptop 6510gz but it has had to be sent away to the best buy service center for the following problems:
1st- had to have the power adapter replaced has it stopped powering my computer
2nd- had to replace the LCD monitor & also had the motherboard replaced
3rd- had to replace the LCD monitor once again and also had to replace the motherboard, once again
4th- had the fan, power adapter, and battery replaced
-I have an extended warranty but it will not cover software problems so I'm left to try and fix this sound problem by myself although it has been in ongoing problem for the last year. I do not remember if it happened all at once or if it was gradual.

William Hurley, who goes by WHurley, has been an open source advocate and organizer for many years.
When he left Qlusters recently for BMC Software, the Houston-based company which began with accounting software and grew like a snip of oilpatch, I wondered how far he could spin that company toward open source.
The answer is pretty far.

Vista compatibility
Date: 08/03/07
(Computer Geeks) Keywords: software
Im going the PC route for the first time (Im a lifetime apple-user and switching out of necessities involving school) and I'm thinking of getting some old PC software (Sim stuff, Baldur's Gate, Diablo, etc) and I was wondering if there will be compatibility issues since some of that is so old? I've never really used PC's and don't want to drop a bunch of money on software that won't work.
Basically: Will old software (98, XP, etc compatible) work on Vista? Will I have to install anything special to run them?
