  3. Web Based Image Archiving Software?

Date: 06/21/07 (PHP Community)    Keywords: cms, php, software

Hey all, I'm looking for some kind of PHP-based image archiving software.

I need to be able to upload images to it, and assign keywords or other kinds of data to each picture.

Has anyone here worked with any such application. Open source, or otherwise?

    Thanks!

Edit: Specifically, I need to be able to create arbitrary fields that describe each picture. Most CMS and photo gallery systems only allow you to assign a name, description, and keywords to a photo. I would like to be able to add things such as category, sub category, dominant color, to each image.

  4. NTFS Corrupted, Free Recovery Software?

Date: 06/21/07 (Computer Geeks)    Keywords: software, html

    Hey everyone,

Here's what happened. I was getting ready to make an image of my (XP Pro) workstation with Novell's Zenworks 7 in order to re-partition my hard drive so I can install and play with Vista in a dual-boot environment, without actually having to count on vista as my main OS.

I have two 80gb SATA drives (not running RAID, IDE Emulation) in my workstation, I Copied all my personal information to the second hard drive, then pushed an image of the workstation up to the network (no need to sysprep if it's coming back down on the same workstation), re-partitioned my main drive into two 40gb partitions, and pulled the image back down on one of them.

The workstation booted up just peachy with XP booting just fine and all my programs in tact, however, the second drive that I had moved all the information to was no longer available. In the disk manager it said the data was 'unallocated' so I made it active (without formatting it) and it is being recognized as a raw partition right now, but keeps asking me to format it when ever I try to access it.

Now here's the question: did some googling and found this http://www.safe-install.com/programs/undelete-ntfs-partition-data.html which after running, will detect the files on the drive, HOWEVER, it is a trial version and I cannot actually restore the files without buying the software. Does anyone know of any Freeware that will allow me to restore NTFS files from a corrupted drive?

  5. Moore’s second law proves need for open source

Date: 06/22/07 (Open Source)    Keywords: software

Without open source the software economic model would be broken, because software is so complex. In software development 80% of the money goes into maintenance. By doing what Eclipse enables, you can save a lot of that cost.

Fedora Core team, in its infinite wisdom, decided to ship a so-called “free” (but essentially useless and crappy; pardon my French) JVM (read gcj) with its installation. Not only that this “free” JVM is integrated with java softwares from Fedora repositories making them pretty hard to use too. I think this is a ridiculous decision [...]

I am at my wits end here, I hope you guys can help. I am running a Vista system that is about 3 months old. My cable internet provider hasn't bothered to upgrade their security suite to be Vista compatible but pointed me to free trials I could use until they do.

After exhausting two free trials I made the HUGE mistake of trying CA's Internet Security Suite 2007. It has been nothing but a nightmare since I installed it. Causing blue screen o' doom errors many times a day. I went out today and purchased Micro Trend PC-cillin Internet Security software today, because it was one of the trials I tried and I like the way it works.

I went in to try and uninstall the CA program it uninstalled the anti-virus, spam blocker and anti-phishing components bet then it proceeded to tell me that I do not have enough privileges to install or uninstall Personal Firewall and to try logging in as an administrator. I am the only profile on this machine which by default makes me an administrator, and just to be sure I went in and checked, yep, I'm an admin. However, that doesn't solve the problem of how to get this crappy program the hell off of my computer so I can actually have a suite that is effective and doesn't cause blue screen errors.

I went to their support site, all of their "knowledge base" articles time out when I try to open them and they aren't responding to my email inquiry, but somehow I don't think I will be at the top of their list of people to get back to quickly since I pretty much told them I am getting rid of their software and using a competitors suite. Any help on how to manually purge my system of this beast or whatever, as long as it is no longer on my system would be greatly greatly appreciated.

  14. An interesting issue

Date: 07/12/07 (Computer Help)    Keywords: software, database

I was presented with a laptop that had been partitioned (supposedly by the manufacturer) in a very odd manner: 15GB C drive, 54GB D drive and the remainder of the 80GB drive as unpartitioned space.
I needed to install a piece of software that has a minimum requirement of 20GB. This requirement included the estimated database size that would, ultimately, be user-generated. Obviously, 20GB is not available on a 15GB partition.
So, I used Acronis to image all the partitions on the drive and then I re-partioned the drive to a single volume. When I restore the image from the original C partition to the new C partition everything goes fine. I set the new partition to be the active partition (e.g. boot-able) and all the data appears to get restored fine. Except for one issue, after re-booting, it will not boot. It claims it cannot boot the to partition and that my hardware configuration is wrong.
After trying this a few time with various different settings all recieving the same result I thought about doing a "dirty" restore. So I did. I installed a clean version of windows (XP Pro) to the disk and then I did a restore over the windows directory. At first glimpse, this worked.... but it has different issues. All the data and settings seemed to carry over but my wireless settings are not correct (in fact the services associated with them are not even running) and a program that uses audio will also not run. I am also having issues with the user-content synchronization with the server (even on the wired network, which works even though I cannot get to the settings).

I know I should have written down the exact boot error message, but I figured I would be able to solve the issue....

Anyone have any thoughts? I really do not want to have to manually restore all the files and install all the programs from scratch unless I absolutely have to.

    Thanks!
