1. Mayan’s made salt… Are you surprised?

Date: 04/07/05 (Java Web)    Keywords: technology

I have been reading on and on in different feeds how they have discovered that ancient Mayan's made salt. What's the big deal about it? We make salt too. Any two year old can make salt if he is near the sea. There isn't much technology involved and it isn't rocket science to guess. The problem [...]

  6. Direct X 9.0 SDK Installation

Date: 04/18/05 (Microsoft Windows)    Keywords: programming, technology, microsoft

I'm trying to install Direct X 9.0 SDK. I'm running WinXP Pro with Visual Studio .NET 2003. I have the exe to install on a CD that came with a book I recently bought (Jim Adams, Programming Role Playing Games with Direct X, 2nd edition, Course Technology). When I tried to install that version, I got an error from the WinZip Self-Extractor when it was extracting in %Installation Path%/Samples/C#/(Something, I forget). I figured that I wouldn't worry about it and download the latest version from Microsoft (April 2005).

I've tried several times to install the April 2005 version and I always receive this error: Could not create "C:\RPG Programming Stuff\Direct X 9\Samples\C++\DirectSound\SoundFX" - unzip operation cancelled.

Can someone please help me? By the way, if anyone else has installed the Direct X SDK, would they know what it puts in your computer? I already have the folders Documentation, Extras, Include, Lib and Redist installed under %Installation Path% also created with a whole bunch of subdirectries and files. I'd like to know if I'm only missing some samples and not part of the actual Direct X code needed to make programs!

  9. Help!

Date: 04/26/05 (Microsoft Windows)    Keywords: technology

All right, so I'm in eighth grade, and I have the option to get out of one of my technology classes, Computer Applications for next year in high school. To do this, I need to take a test...the test will cover Word, Powerpoint, and Excel. Now, I know Word and Powerpoint both fairly well (though any help with those would be appreciated, also) but I've never used Excel in my life - and that's what the test is mostly based on. If anyone could give me major help with learning this program (I don't even know what it's for) it would be appreciated like you have no idea. The test is May fourteenth, by the way. Thank you so much!

  14. virtual community platforms...

    Date: 05/04/05 (WebDesign)    Keywords: technology

So... I wrote some stuff about virtual communities and the information technology they exist on. Instead of trying to create a list of virtual communities, I started to create a list of types of virtual communities and what tech they're based on.

I listed usenet, forums, irc, blogs, social networks, mmorpgs, and AGMs. Not the best list... granted... but I think it shows where I was headed with the concept. There's more detail in the original post.

So.. I post this here cause I'm interested in trying to create a much longer list... and though maybe you might have something to add.
