  • Desktop backround picture

Date: 09/08/07 (Computer Geeks)    Keywords: web

You know when you right click on your desktop, click properties, and click on the "desktop" tab and there are a whole bunch of backgrounds that are listed there? Well, all but one of mine are gone. I was probably messing with something I shouldn't have been a long time back.

After talking with a friend of mine, I found out that they are all listed in the C: Windows/Web/Wallpaper folder. My question is.. how do I get them back into the area where they are all supposed to be? Thanks in advance for any help.

  • I am using Dreamweaver

Date: 09/08/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: css, html, web

Just a minute ago, when I tried to save an html file, it said a sharing violation had occurred. Now I am looking at my webpage online and I it appears to be linking to the css sheet twice. I have looked in the codes and I swear it's only linking to it once. I only have the file uploaded once too. Can anyone make any sense out of this?

  • getting rid of usericons

Date: 09/08/07 (HTML Help)    Keywords: web

how do you hide your user icon on your journal (besides not using a default icon)?

its basically really pissing me off because it shifts my image map header to the right, making the page stretch. obviously its ok anywhere except my entries page (i.e. friends page, calendar) because it doesnt show up there.

i tried looking it up before and put in the coding it suggested, ".shadowed img {display: none;}", but that didnt work. it made it disappear, but my whole image map disappeared as well.

so i made a completely new layout from scratch thinking it was some messed up coding from my last layout. but the same thing still happened.

i also tried to use one of those premade layouts really quick to check if its even a coding issue. the preview had no user icon, and when i put it on mine, my icon was there and messed up their layout. so im even more frustrated because i cant figure out whats wrong.

  • NO SOUND!

Date: 09/09/07 (Computer Help)    Keywords: web

    Had Windows re-installed.
    All drivers were updated.
Windows said I needed updates - I updated them.
    Sound is not working.

I found a RealTek HD Audio Driver on the RealTek website and downloaded it, unzipped the folder, and double-clicked set-up. It installed and then restarted the comp. Still no sound. When I go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager, all the devices say they're working properly and I can't update any of the drivers. If I go to Control Panel -> Sound and Audio Device, it says "No audio device". But if I click on the "Hardware" tab, it lists all the hardware and says that they're all installed properly.

    What can be going on?

The computer worked find Wednesday night until Thursday night. Then after I did the Windows update, the sound stopped working.

  • Abusing Comment Name field for SEO.. No Sir

Date: 09/09/07 (Java Web)    Keywords: web

Sometimes I see comments where the name of the person is not really his name but a popular keyword which obviously links to his website. While I understand the need to have link-love for useful comments and even encourage it, the name field shouldn’t be abused by using keywords like “Web Banner Design”, for example. [...]

  • Your Favorite Reference Materials

Date: 09/10/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: browser, web

    Hi all,

For no pressing reason (well, possibly because I'm procrastinating on packing up my apartment to move next week), I'm trying to get together a good working list of web and graphic design reference resources.

What are your favorite places to go for reference when you're having trouble with browser compatibility, or need a refresher on something you don't use all the time, or just aren't sure where to start on a project? Conversely, is there a site or book that you ABSOLUTELY DON'T RECCOMEND for reference purposes?

  • Paypal

Date: 09/11/07 (Web Development)    Keywords: web

I know it's possible for customers to pay your website using Paypal. PP is pretty straightforward about making that simple for you. Does it work the other way around though? Is there a way for your site to use Paypal to send cash back to your customers? Can you "charge" a negative amount (that thought scares the shit out of me)? I've never set up a Paypal system before, so sorry for the dumb question :-P

I know, strange request, but suffice to say, I have a need to do exactly that. Any insight? Thank you.

    1. Adobe Flash courses?

Date: 09/04/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: software, asp, web

Anyone have recommendations on Adobe Flash courses? I was looking at the New Horizons website (http://www.newhorizons.com/content/courseSchedule.aspx?ClassID=300003333&SiteID=45), where they offer 1 or 2-day long courses in all different kinds of software. This company was recommended to me by a friend, but they don't necessarily offer the specific courses I want in my area. I live in Westchester just north of NYC, so something in the Westchester/NYC/Connecticut area would be ideal.

    8. Firefox input delay.

Date: 09/07/07 (Mozilla)    Keywords: web, seo

In Firefox, every action I take has a delay of 1-4 seconds. As I type this entry, the letters appear a few seconds after I hit the keys. This becomes a major hassle when filling out large forms and I can't tell where I'm at - if I'm tabbing through, I may have mistabbed or the keystrokes didn't register and I end up, say, putting my address in as my SSN. It's also just plain annoyong, as I mouseover a link and it doesn't indicate that I've done so until after I click it...then the click doesn't register until a few seconds after this. This is especially annoying when I'm doing QA testing on web applications. This behaviour also extends to the URL bar, search functions and menu options.

I do not experience this delay with IE or any other program.
I've cleared the Cache and restarted both FF and my computer many times over since this problem started.

Any idea what may be going on and how I may fix it?
