Embed video

Hey all.
What do you use to embed video on your websites? I mean, no youtube or vimeo, something you upload.
I used to use Flash, of course, but I'd like it to be apple-friendly. I tried Video-js but it's not working somehow. This is the page where I want to use it, which isn't working well now (2 of those videos play on chrome and safari but not on firefox, even though the code is exactly the same):

Thank you!

long, long ago..

I use to design websites all the time back in my early teen years, using html "cheat sheets" and used tables to line up websites. They looked nice for that time.
As the years went by, times have changed - So has web design. Websites look a lot different then they use to. I will be taking classes in university based around Web Design later on, and was curious if anyone had ideas on how to brush up on those skills.
I noticed quite a few people using Adobe Dreamweaver to create code. Is there any other programs used or any books/websites to look into?
Any pointers/suggestions would be mighty helpful.

Blending mode in CSS
Date: 07/12/11
Keywords: css, web, google
Hi all.
I hope you guys can help me, google wasn't that big of a friend in this case.
So I'm making a menu area for my website with the following characteristics:
. The area is defined by an image that's randomized from a selection of images with the same size.
. Over the image there are the menu items, in white and always the same.
. When you roll over a menu item, a red bar appears between the image and the type, making it clearer. If you're not rolling over, the current page is selected in the menu in the same way.
Now here's my problem: I want the red bar to have a multiply blending mode, not a simple red block or transparency. Since the image is random, this has to be a property of the bar, regardless of what under it. Is this doable in css? Js? Multiply is basically a digital equation, so I hope it's possible.
Or you can just mock me if there's something essential I'm forgetting.
HALP.

Frameworks and Web Design Advice
Date: 03/31/11
Keywords: php, css, html, java, web, apache
Background info: I am a graphic design major who's interested in and currently taking a course on web design. I'm also minoring in computer science, and taking Web Architecture and Application Development right now. Our last assignment for this class is to create our own application, using whatever language we'd like. He's currently going over Apache Struts, but we're not required to used that. We'll just be more on our own if we choose another language.
I'm not sure I want to devote a ton of time to teaching myself a new language, unless it's definitely going to help me if I were to continue pursuing web design more. I was originally thinking I may try PHP, and using this handy dandy chart on wiki, I determined that Joomla seems like the thing to use if I want to go that route (I believe we need the MVC thing). My web prof also suggested I look into Ruby, and Ruby on Rails.
So my question to you is, which would be more advantageous to learn, PHP and Joomla, or Ruby and Ruby on Rails?
And secondly, how difficult is it to learn them? (I know Java, HTML, and CSS. And COBOL, but that hardly seems relevant) Is one easier than the other? This project is due in about 4 weeks, and the application has to be fairly complex. Am I a lunatic to consider teaching myself a new language and create an application using it in that amount of time? Should I just go with Struts since I'd be able to get more help from my professor?
I'm in the process of researching this on my own, but I'd love to hear any advice or suggestions you have in the matter, since I don't know many people in web design.
Thanks!

google ranking
Date: 03/10/09
Keywords: web, google
i am a complete novice in this area so i was hoping to maybe get some clarification from people in the know,
now ive read through this
google.about.com/od/searchengineoptimization/qt/improverank.htm
but i still have some questions
if i follow the tips on that link, how quickly will the "key words" get updated (as i will be expected to get certain key words to display our website within the top 3 ranking and there will be a few every month or so as we release new products)
also is there a more detailed guide that i can follow that will help me in the quest to keep my bosses happy?
thanks in advance

I may be building a website for a local ballet studio. What do you normally charge your clients for building a website? What are your set up fees, maintaining fees, etc?

RTSP embedable player
Date: 03/09/09
Keywords: web, google
I have an RTSP stream that I'd like to place on a web page. It is .mov, but the quicktime interface is very plain. My google-fu just isn't working today because I haven't found a player I can embed. I love flowplayer, but setting up a Wowza server is not an option.
Has anyone run across a nice, modern looking embedable player for RTSP streams?

fancybox problems
Date: 03/03/09
Keywords: css, java, web
the fancybox website is not very helpful. i looked at the examples page code and a couple of other people's websites and i don't understand why when i click on my link, i don't get a fancy pop-up. it just opens the image normally on a white background. i made sure all my javascript and css files were in the right place and linked correctly.
is there some "duh" step i'm missing?

Design feedback (x-posted)
Date: 03/01/09
Keywords: php, programming, browser, web
Haven't shared in a while. My web design teacher had a "mini contest" going on where he needed a design for a page, and wanted to leave it as a way to get more experience in design and possibly earn a 4gb memory stick in the end.
I did this for fun, really.
http://lisacerilli.nfshost.com/web_design2/programming/php/
I have no idea what it looks like in IE yet as I haven't done much browser testing on it, or anything else off of a Macintosh, so... Hopefully it doesn't explode (we haven't learned much about browser hacking yet anyway).
Feedback?
Edit: I'll be changing this as I get feedback. There may still be bugs as I won't get a change to debug until I get to school on Tuesday, but hey. Any progress = good progress. Thank you for the feedback!
