Hi folks. I wonder if you could help me with ideas on how to make a food menu on a restaurant website a bit more interactive or flashy/dynamic. We live on a small island in the Atlantic, so putting "order online" or such stuff wouldn´t really be feasible cause not a lot of people would use that here (like they would, say, in New York, or something).
I am really not sure what exactly to do with the menus - I have looked at other restaurant sites and food menus are pretty much just there for information rather than interaction, so I haven´t been able to find ideas that way.
The website is emmascantina.com - it is a static site that gets updated every few months. The menus are quite boring (but the client was on a budget, so he gets what he pays for) at the moment, just scanned in PDFs of the printed menus. Another thing I told him was that if the rest of the site is static, it would be a bit silly to make the menus interactive, and that really he would want a total site re-design!
Is there anyone here familiar with php coding who can help me out and fix something for me? I have a music website and my "designer" keeps guilt-tripping me when I need something done so ideally I need to find someone else who would like to work on a music review website (that's already almost completely built) for the "joys of music", ie, no pay (none of us get paid, it's all volunteer), but for right now I need someone who can help me with my banner problem. (If you have an interest in working on the site as a writer as well, that would be most welcome, too!)
We made the banner a link to the homepage after the actual page was created. We have it working smoothly on pages that are connected right to the index page. It does not work on pages that are foldered beneath the index page, however. Tell me what code you need to see and I can paste it or whatever. We have it set up with a 'banner.php' file, and then a line of code in all the other pages that controls it, but obviously something is missing in the other pages.
Hey, all... I know that HTML emails are kind of spammy, but you do what the boss wants, right?
I've made sure all my images are full direct paths to files up on a server, all of my CSS is done in-line, and when I test the email by sending it to my co-workers everything looks dandy, but when I send a test out to Gmail or Hotmail all of my background images are stripped out. Is there something wrong with my code?
The code for my main div with the background image is:
I require the services of a PHP Coder for about 2-3 hours of (what should be) simple work. I had a coder do the back end for a client site a few years ago, and php upgrades + less than perfect code (I guess?) has broken a few things that urgently need repairing.
Essentially, anywhere you have a query that includes a $_REQUEST variable (or a variable that came from a $_REQUEST variable), you need to first validate the value of that variable. If it's a category, it should be a-z,A-Z,0-9 and probably should not include any apostrophes or quotation marks.
The other is an inline image resizer so when the client uploads their product images all the thumbnails + display photos are within the site guidelines and don't break the layout.
Please email info AT codebloo DOT com if you're interested. Thanks :)
So, I'm working with Dynamic Drive's script, Dynamic Ajax Content, in which Javascript loads a page into a div layer when the user clicks on a link. When the page is loaded, it wipes out the old content, and puts the new page there. Here is my problem: I need to update 2 columns at a time, and I'm pretty sure you can't load 2 pages by clicking on just one link (let me know if I'm wrong; the DD forums haven't responded).
So, my question is, are there any aesthetic and structurally sound ways to display content in 2 columns (with a gutter in the middle) without using 2 div layers?
Hoping someone here has experience with this issue. I am rebuilding a website for a client, and I think I have the CSS actually working (nothing fancy on this site), and it even looks good in IE6! But, on the navigation, I have buttons against an image backdrop so used png images. That looks sucky. I did a web search and found two fixes with JS code, which I have installed and uploaded, to no avail. One of them was here.
I am building a web site that uses information provided by a simple HTML form to add information into 2 separate tables. The first table assigns each entry an id by auto increment and I need to access that id and insert it into the second table.
I have tried a few different things, but have not had any success. Help a n00b?
Im using Dreamweaver, I put in my image links for the nav bar, when I link to the file i want it to link to, it highlights it blue and makes it a few pixels bigger. I don't know how to change it, so it doesn't highlight it blue.
I made my nav bar 30 px then the home button 30px high but after its highlighted it makes it all 34ish px high, its driving me crazy, then by the time Im done the links push out of the nav bar and shift down.
Im trying to redesign my own site, i want a retro feel to it, and trying different backgrounds, i like option 1 the best but its not that strong of a contrast,
i liked the flowery feel of option 3 but my boyfriend didnt really like it , so trying a new background with a black and white feel i did option 2 its more geometrical, but i didnt like it and went with the circles of option 1.
I just wanted a second opinion, is the flowery feel of option 3 too much?
any better ideas for a cool background, more contrast for my website, to give it cool retro look? You can double click on the images to enlarge them
I know. I'm such a noob. I've been looking everywhere online for just a simple login and logout code.. I did find one but now it seems to only work for show. Whether I'm logged in or out it doesn't recognize it either way. It does, however, connect to the database at least and will recognize username and password.
I just... need it to kill the session when you log out and then start it again when you log in.. My codes for members to see member only links is..
$dbservertype='mysql'; $servername='xxxx.perfora.net'; // username and password to log onto db server $dbusername='xxxx'; $dbpassword='xxxx'; // name of database $dbname='xxxx';
//////////////////////////////////////// ////// DONOT EDIT BELOW ///////// /////////////////////////////////////// connecttodb($servername,$dbname,$dbusername,$dbpassword); function connecttodb($servername,$dbname,$dbuser,$dbpassword) { global $link; $link=mysql_connect ("$servername","$dbuser","$dbpassword"); if(!$link){die("Could not connect to MySQL");} mysql_select_db("$dbname",$link) or die ("could not open db".mysql_error()); } ////////////////////////////// ?>
if($rec=mysql_fetch_array(mysql_query("SELECT * FROM Signup WHERE username='$username' AND Password = '$password'"))){ if(($rec['username']==$username)&&($rec['Password']==$password)){ include "include/newsession.php"; echo "
Welcome back
"; print "";
} } else {
session_unset(); echo "Wrong Login. Use your correct Name and Password and Try
";
} ?>
What am I doing wrong? ;_; this is the only thing keeping me from putting my site up... I hope my problem makes sense -_-
I am having some serious troubles with a footer code. There has to be a easy way to resolve this but I can not for the life of me figure it out!
I am trying to add a footer to this page, but it is not showing up at all. When I look at my css in my preview window, it shows the footer but not when I try and view the page itself.
You can view the page at: www.deaduntildusk.com/milwaukee or check out the codes below.

I "finished" the design for my site and it looked fine to me (in firefox) until someone told me it didn't work for them in IE. I thought I put the right tags in there to fix that but I guess not. Can someone please help?
I don't seem to be able to find a community dedicated to Photoshop, so hopefully someone here can help...
I am building out some galleries for a Wordpress site I am developing for myself, and want to add a transparent text watermark to the photos. Ideally, I'd set it up as a custom watermark that can be applied in batches. I found this page on a Google search and have followed the steps. I am using CS2 and the first couple of times I tried this, everything happened exactly as it was supposed to. But, I kept starting over because I wasn't happy with the original file dimensions and was playing with different possibilities. In the process, suddenly my Photoshop stopped behaving according to script.
Specifically, when I create the text (not the symbol, that part works fine), and then do the Layer - Type - Create Work Path, I no longer get the second path layer. As a result, I can't use the Path Selection Tool to highlight that text and drop it into the first path, and I also get no regular text layer.
I have rebooted the computer to clear the RAM but with no positive result. Is there a Photoshop cache I am supposed to clear? Am I having just an ordinary stupid moment? I followed the instructions closely and to the letter in order to make sure I wasn't skipping something or inverting something. I know there are a dozen different ways to do watermarks image by image, but I would love to save myself a helluva lot of typing and time by being able to do them en masse.
How do you guys deal with data tables that are just too bloody wide? I mean, I'm talking about tables that are too wide for the average person's monitor. I've got clients who have tables that are going on 1000+px wide. After a point, saying 'make a fluid layout' doesn't work anymore because tables that wide become a hindrance to the end user. I'm especially interested in hearing from people with corporate clients and who deal with things like press releases. I think the best solution is the PDF route - in the corporate world, PDFs are a fact of life. I did some digging around through releases of companies similar to the one I'm having trouble with and I don't see a lot of tables at all, whether or not wide ones. But I'm just the web monkey and I don't have a lot of clout when it comes to protocol.
I posted last week about the need for someone to work on a project and did not give more info until a few days later and I fear I waited too long in posting so it fell to the wayside and the universe gave a collective "eh..."
The client I have wants a site like usediron.com. What I need is someone that knows DB well enough to work with me on this project and would not mind getting paid to do so...
I've set up a new online portfolio and am having some trouble with positioning divs, especially across browsers. I'm sure there are other problems, but if you wouldn't mind taking a look and giving me any feedback you might have, I'd greatly appreciate it. Here it is:
I have a client who wants to stream a 2 minute showreel of his work on his website. He currently has the showreel hosted with his own provider and available in low-band and hi-band formats, but frankly it looks pretty dodgy in both and requires any number of plug-ins in order to view it.
So, my questions are these: what can I do to a) improve the quality of the movie and b) improve the speed at which it streams? Obviously the host and the viewer's own connection speed has a fair bit to do with it, but are their any sure fire ways to make sure streaming video looks as good as possible?
Okay, if this just happened once, I'd chalk it up to some error on my part -- something that I accidentally did and didn't notice. But this is twice now, and I'm completely confused.
Two times in the last month-and-a-half to two-month period, my main css file on the website I maintain at work was replaced with an older version. My local copy of the site (the only source I used to upload files to the site) is always the updated version, and all I have to do is re-upload my local file, and it corrects the problem. So, since it's not my local file that's the problem, and I only keep one copy of the file on the server, I have no idea how the old version keeps popping up.
It just happened again either overnight or this morning, and the really strange thing is that we just migrated to a new server, so everything is fresh and new, and the css file was the correct one yesterday. Somehow overnight, it turned into the old one... on a brand new server that's never even seen the old version! Again, my local copy is the correct one.
