Here's what I have Apache 1.3.33 PHP 5.0.4 MySQL 4.1.12a Operating System: Windows 98
The error that I got when I tried using mysql_connect() on a php page:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect()
Things that I have done so far: Apache, mySQL, and PHP are in directories on the C drive, named accordingly
in php.ini, this is what I changed (change in italics) doc_root = "C:\Apache\htdocs" extension_dir "C:\php\ext"
Removed the ";" in front of extension = php_mysql.dll (Is there supposed to be quotation marks on this line?)
Saved a copy of php.ini (after these changes) in the C:\Windows directory Saved copies of c:\php\libmysql.dll & c:\php\ext\php_mysql.dll to the C:\Windows directory
-------------- What else am I missing?

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; ; About php.ini ; ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; ; This file controls many aspects of PHP's behavior. In order for PHP to ; read it, it must be named 'php.ini'. PHP looks for it in the current ; working directory, in the path designated by the environment variable ; PHPRC, and in the path that was defined in compile time (in that order). ; Under Windows, the compile-time path is the Windows directory. The ; path in which the php.ini file is looked for can be overridden using ; the -c argument in command line mode. ; ; The syntax of the file is extremely simple. Whitespace and Lines ; beginning with a semicolon are silently ignored (as you probably guessed). ; Section headers (e.g. [Foo]) are also silently ignored, even though ; they might mean something in the future. ; ; Directives are specified using the following syntax: ; directive = value ; Directive names are *case sensitive* - foo=bar is different from FOO=bar. ; ; The value can be a string, a number, a PHP constant (e.g. E_ALL or M_PI), one ; of the INI constants (On, Off, True, False, Yes, No and None) or an expression ; (e.g. E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE), or a quoted string ("foo"). ; ; Expressions in the INI file are limited to bitwise operators and parentheses: ; | bitwise OR ; & bitwise AND ; ~ bitwise NOT ; ! boolean NOT ; ; Boolean flags can be turned on using the values 1, On, True or Yes. ; They can be turned off using the values 0, Off, False or No. ; ; An empty string can be denoted by simply not writing anything after the equal ; sign, or by using the None keyword: ; ; foo = ; sets foo to an empty string ; foo = none ; sets foo to an empty string ; foo = "none" ; sets foo to the string 'none' ; ; If you use constants in your value, and these constants belong to a ; dynamically loaded extension (either a PHP extension or a Zend extension), ; you may only use these constants *after* the line that loads the extension. ; ; ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; ; About this file ; ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; ; This is the recommended, PHP 5-style version of the php.ini-dist file. It ; sets some non standard settings, that make PHP more efficient, more secure, ; and encourage cleaner coding. ; ; The price is that with these settings, PHP may be incompatible with some ; applications, and sometimes, more difficult to develop with. Using this ; file is warmly recommended for production sites. As all of the changes from ; the standard settings are thoroughly documented, you can go over each one, ; and decide whether you want to use it or not. ; ; For general information about the php.ini file, please consult the php.ini-dist ; file, included in your PHP distribution. ; ; This file is different from the php.ini-dist file in the fact that it features ; different values for several directives, in order to improve performance, while ; possibly breaking compatibility with the standard out-of-the-box behavior of ; PHP. Please make sure you read what's different, and modify your scripts ; accordingly, if you decide to use this file instead. ; ; - register_globals = Off [Security, Performance] ; Global variables are no longer registered for input data (POST, GET, cookies, ; environment and other server variables). Instead of using $foo, you must use ; you can use $_REQUEST["foo"] (includes any variable that arrives through the ; request, namely, POST, GET and cookie variables), or use one of the specific ; $_GET["foo"], $_POST["foo"], $_COOKIE["foo"] or $_FILES["foo"], depending ; on where the input originates. Also, you can look at the ; import_request_variables() function. ; Note that register_globals is going to be depracated (i.e., turned off by ; default) in the next version of PHP, because it often leads to security bugs. ; Read http://php.net/manual/en/security.registerglobals.php for further ; information. ; - register_long_arrays = Off [Performance] ; Disables registration of the older (and deprecated) long predefined array ; variables ($HTTP_*_VARS). Instead, use the superglobals that were ; introduced in PHP 4.1.0 ; - display_errors = Off [Security] ; With this directive set to off, errors that occur during the execution of ; scripts will no longer be displayed as a part of the script output, and thus, ; will no longer be exposed to remote users. With some errors, the error message ; content may expose information about your script, web server, or database ; server that may be exploitable for hacking. Production sites should have this ; directive set to off. ; - log_errors = On [Security] ; This directive complements the above one. Any errors that occur during the ; execution of your script will be logged (typically, to your server's error log, ; but can be configured in several ways). Along with setting display_errors to off, ; this setup gives you the ability to fully understand what may have gone wrong, ; without exposing any sensitive information to remote users. ; - output_buffering = 4096 [Performance] ; Set a 4KB output buffer. Enabling output buffering typically results in less ; writes, and sometimes less packets sent on the wire, which can often lead to ; better performance. The gain this directive actually yields greatly depends ; on which Web server you're working with, and what kind of scripts you're using. ; - register_argc_argv = Off [Performance] ; Disables registration of the somewhat redundant $argv and $argc global ; variables. ; - magic_quotes_gpc = Off [Performance] ; Input data is no longer escaped with slashes so that it can be sent into ; SQL databases without further manipulation. Instead, you should use the ; function addslashes() on each input element you wish to send to a database. ; - variables_order = "GPCS" [Performance] ; The environment variables are not hashed into the $_ENV. To access ; environment variables, you can use getenv() instead. ; - error_reporting = E_ALL [Code Cleanliness, Security(?)] ; By default, PHP surpresses errors of type E_NOTICE. These error messages ; are emitted for non-critical errors, but that could be a symptom of a bigger ; problem. Most notably, this will cause error messages about the use ; of uninitialized variables to be displayed. ; - allow_call_time_pass_reference = Off [Code cleanliness] ; It's not possible to decide to force a variable to be passed by reference ; when calling a function. The PHP 4 style to do this is by making the ; function require the relevant argument by reference.

You can enable output buffering during runtime by calling the output ; buffering functions. You can also enable output buffering for all files by ; setting this directive to On. For ; example, if you set output_handler to "mb_output_handler", character ; encoding will be transparently converted to the specified encoding. ; Setting any output handler automatically turns on output buffering. ; Note: People who wrote portable scripts should not depend on this ini ; directive. Instead, explicitly set the output handler using ob_start(). ; Using this ini directive may cause problems unless you know what script ; is doing. ; Note: You cannot use both "mb_output_handler" with "ob_iconv_handler" ; and you cannot use both "ob_gzhandler" and "zlib.output_compression". ; Note: output_handler must be empty if this is set 'On' !!!! ; Instead you must use zlib.output_handler. ;output_handler =

How do I instance an ASP2 application from a client machine from within the firewall? Despite that, I wrote it in Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition, whenever I attempt, it tried to read it as if I wrote it for .Net framework 1.1 and not 2.0. I am calling it over HTTP (i.e., HTTP://pjohnson/website1/default.aspx) where the application resides in a folder in WWWRoot.
Hows it going? so the ranks of php_elite are steadily growing :) 3! oh yeah, were pimpin it now. Hopefully you will be a contributing member, i s'pose everyone else who joined just joined because php_elite sounds "kewl man". maybe you will post something interesting on the topic of php. All discussions of coding are very welcome, however maybe something in an area, such as socket coding, or possibly using the gd library as a graphics engine for a game, things of that nature are what i would like. i have wanted to start a post on one of those subjects, but i have been very busy preparing for my move to chicago that time has been to short of late to write out the entire technical aspect of my project. im working on it though so expect to see it up here in the near future :). meanwhile someone, anyone please post your ideas or what not on coding to this community. -=Levi=- -=Ro0t=- http:\\www.dehaanent.com\
So here is the deal. I was selling this laptop on ebay. Retails about $850. So I get an email in ebay from this guy say he needs it right away and it for his son, blah blah blah. I will pay you $4,000 if you can ship it to me right away and if we can do the transaction through western union. So here is the emails. Just be careful, I am very security minded and almost fell for it. If it wasn't for my distrust in most things, I wouldn't of call western union and found out it was fake.

News of a new security vulnerability has been posted for Firefox 1.5 (my own testing confirms it also affects Firefox 1.0.7, Mozilla 1.7.12, and Camino 1.0b1) that allows for Denial of Service or potentially arbitrary code execution. It has to do with a buffer overflow in the parsing of history.dat, which stores browser history.
Basically, if you visit a malcious site using this vulnerability, the next time you try to start Firefox it will run the malicious code, which could be as minor as causing Firefox not to work (such as the Proof of Concept) or as serious as executing arbitrary code (i.e. it could install a virus or other malware). Fortunately, there is a simple workaround: just set Firefox to keep browser history for 0 (zero) days, essentially setting it not to keep history, and then restart Firefox to make the change take effect. Note that disabling JavaScript DOES NOT mitigate this vulnerability; only disabling browser history does, since that prevents the creation of history.dat. Also note that the malcious code would run each time you attempt to start Firefox, until you delete history.dat from your profile folder.
I don't believe Mozilla has announced anything about this yet, but proof of concept code is available, and I confirmed with my own testing that it works as I described on both Mac OS X and Windows, using both Firefox 1.5 and Firefox 1.0.7, meaning that all versions are probably affected (or at least all recent versions).
Here are the steps to mitigate this vulnerability until a patch is released (for Firefox 1.5):
1. Open Firefox Options (Tools->Options on Windows) or Preferences (Edit->Preferences on Linux, Firefox->Preferences on Mac OS X). 2. Choose "Privacy" from the top button bar, and choose the "History" tab. 3. Set "Remember visited pages for the last ____ days." to 0 (zero). 4. On Windows, click OK to close the Options window. On Linux or Mac, simply close the Preferences window. 5. Restart Firefox to make sure the setting takes effect.
The same steps apply to Firefox 1.0.x, it's just that the options/preferences window is different. Basically, for step 2 the "Privacy" button is on the left side button bar, and history is the top section on that pane.
Update 1: My own testing confirms that other Mozilla-based browsers are affected by this vulnerability as well, including Mozilla Suite and Camino. I've also confirmed that this can be exploited without JavaScript (which I already suspected), and it has the same effect as the original PoC. All users of Gecko-based browsers should disable browser history.
Also, Secunia has released an advisory on the issue, but they only mention the DoS aspect, not the possibility of code execution that the original researchers claim is possible. While I can't confirm myself whether or not that is true, it is still certainly a nuisance to have Firefox become unusable, so you should all still protect yourselves.
Update 2: Mozilla has released a statement, claiming that the flaw only causes Firefox and Mozilla to hang for a long time when starting, but that they eventually do start. They also say that they don't think code execution is possible, since the original researchers present no proof of it other than claiming its possible. Though they don't state it, it doesn't sound like they're planning to release a patch anytime soon...
Also, testing confirms that this affects Linux, though depending on the distribution it seems to affect it differently. For example, on Gentoo using the twm window manager, accessing the test case caused the window manager to completely lock up, and then after restarting Firefox wouldn't work. On Fedora Core 4, however, after restarting Gnome (which locked up for me similarly to twm) Firefox did seem to keep working normally. Perhaps the fact that the window managers are locking up is a sign that they can't handle extremely long window titles...
Amazingly enough, I've *just* started using functions with my ASP code, even though I've been doing ASP for a little while now.
Right now, I'm only using a function to deal with connecting to my database and retrieving information based on the SQL I use.
In several cases, however, I need to use multiple recordsets for part of a page's content. It gets a little tiresome to use the same function over and over.
Is there a way that I could store all of my SQL statements in an array and then use that array in my function so that it would run through however many items there are in the array (this could not be a static number, since one page might use four different statements and another might use three), run all the SQL statements, and then put the results in different recordsets?
Or..would it just be easier to make one huge SQL statement, like
SELECT table1.field1, table2.field1, table2.field2, table3.field5 FROM table1, table2, table2 WHERE
My search page was passing through around 50+ form variables and the search was running smoothly, due to changed requested by the client we are now sending the variables via querystring and after about 12 searches the search hangs and times out.
Re-starting IIS starts the search running smoothly again but only for about 12 ish searches. We are running windows 2003 server, IIS 6 and asp.net 1.1. Are there any issues that with quesrystring variables that could be causing this performance issue?
Any suggestions or pointers would be welcome :)
EDIT
I have just notice the search runs fine in firefox but in internet explorer if hangs and if you press submit a second time it then submits.
this is the search button which calls the function to send the variables [asp:Button Text="search for accommodation" id="search" OnClick="SetPostback" runat="server" /]

Okay, here's one for you. Not sure whether I should be posting here or in csharp; figured I'd try here first.
Trying to set up a SqlConnection in C#.NET (2005 Express Edition). When I test the connection, I get the following error:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings, SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
All well and good... except the machine to which I'm trying to connect is running SQL Server 2000, not 2005.
There is no connection string as of yet-- it's simply trying to locate the database and access the data (which, I should add, I can do just fine with Enterprise Manager, Query Analyzer, etc.). All I have right now is an "Add Connection" dialog box that has the DSP (Microsoft Sql Server Database File (SqlClient)) and the physical path to the database file (\\edison\c$\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data\Hospital Rates_Data.MDF). I hit "test connection," and up comes the error.
I am aware of this article at support.microsoft.com. SQL Server 2000 was installed on this machine at least a year before 2005 was released, so that's not the problem (at least, not as they explain it here).Still, I attempted the workaround, and the user they specify does not exist, so I assume that 2005 was never installed on that machine. I've found no help through a websearch; is there no one that doesn't ask questions specifically related to ASP.NET? Sheesh.
I'm no Javascript aficionado, and I'm working on a web site that I didn't create. I've never had a problem with these menus before, and I code by hand, using HTML-kit... someone else had to work on this page and I have a sneaking suspicion they pulled it into Frontpage or VBstudio or something, because the formatting got all retarded (stripped quotes, weird tabs, extra returns) and now then Javascript menus don't work. I went through the file and put as many things back in place as I could stand, but it doesn't really seem to be fixing the problem. I didn't notice any other major differences, and I'm not really well read in Javascript - so I can't really debug like an expert. That's where you guys come in. Can you help?
The menus on this page (or without a video selected if you prefer) don't work - meaning when you float over the top navbar, there are supposed to be menus that drop down (well, appear) and they don't. The right way looks like this.
So basically I've been assigned to write up a training sign-up web app for my company, and basically when we were working on it some static HTML versions were written up just for show and not for actual functionality. Thing is though that now I gotta use the exact same site design but now give it ASP.Net functionality. I know this sounds easy but I gotta deal with a site built with ALOT of Dreamweaver added code like non-editable tags (great goddamn idea that was,) and image swapping javascript. I don't want to have to rebuild this entire site from scratch, but I also don't want ot go and CONSTANTLY be making stupid design revisions to get it to look like the original page. Any ideas about this? Or is this really not as hard as it sounds?
Following up from my last post, are there any good CMSes out there for a really small site?
I mostly use my personal site as a support resource for online roleplaying games that I run, but I'm tired of needing to upload to the site by FTP whenever I want to change one little thing on a page. At the same time, I like have a visual basis for character sheets and so on... (http://www.patchwolf.com/phoenixcrusade/terpsichore.php for an example). I'd also like to give my players the chance to add stuff directly to the site -- kind of like a wiki.
Of particular concern are the character sheets, where I'd like to still be able to change one detail (like the current form aspect on the example sheet -- currently controlled by an in-page variable), which then affects several other aspects (strength, stamina, health, etc....)
A good mate of mine uses Qwikiwiki (http://www.qwikiwiki.com), which uses a flat-file system -- but if I want to have a hope of maintaining a visual basis on any part of the site, Qwikiwiki's not going to cut it. While I have PHP and MySQL on my web host, I don't actually run the server myself, so that's also something to take into consideration.
I'm trying to get a repeater to work on an ASP.Net page in a table. For some reason even though I have an example copied DIRECTLY from a website I can't get the damn thing to work properly. I keep getting errors on the HTML side saying like, "Per the active schema, the element 'tr' cannot be nested within 'form'.", and "The active schema does not support the element 'ItemTemplate'.
And when the page is run, I get the error: 'DataItem' is not a member of 'System.Web.UI.Control'.
Here's part of the code. Its not 100% complete because this problem is preventing me from proceeding in testing.
The Code-Behind: Dim sDSN As String = System.Configuration.ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings("DSN2") sCmd = "SELECT * FROM courseInfo WHERE infoID=" & queryID & "" Dim sReqID As String iReturnCode = oDataAccess.ExecuteSqlStatement(sDSN, sCmd, dsCourses, sErrMsg) parentRepeater.DataSource = dsCourses.Tables(0)
Page.DataBind()
The iReturnCode thing is part of a utility class that we use for Database queries.
I know the code here looks REALLY weird but LJ is being a bad word that rhymes with runt and is actually compiling the code that I'm posting. I don't know if thats good or bad, but all I Know is that its not running on my machine and I'm getting these complilation errors. The <'s and >'s were modified to get it to display, but I think you get the idea. Any help would be appreciated. Am I just going insane? This seems like such a simple thing yet it just doesn't seem to want to work.
Anyone have or know information on a working XF86Config XF86Config-4 File for Sun Enterprise 250 Server . Have tried Sun, Goggle. Openboot. Read Bbs for Debian, Gentoo and freeBSD, so far no go.
Loaded freeBSD sparc64... Tex Live CD sparc64 5.6... Gentoo sparc64... Debian sparc64...
Tried there configuring setups and all the XF86Config , XF86Config-4 files they make do not work.
Hardware is as follows:
2 x 400Mhz UltraSPARC CPU's Sun Ethernet card on the Motherboard. ATI Technologies Inc. 3D Rage I/II 215GT Mach64 GT video card. 6 x Seagate Cheetah ST318203LC SCSI HDD 1 SCSI CD
Any input would be much appreciated. Really wand *.nix on my Sun Enterprise 250 Server .
Does anyone know offhand of any good tutorials on configuring a search through an XML in FLASH where you expect to get multiple results from one search? (example- multiple records with the same status). I'm finding a ton on searching for exact records, but they all expect only one result back and it's driving me nuts. I've spent waaaay to much time on this stupid little thing, I'm SO not good enough with actionscript to this. I've tried lots of the tutorials on xml sites that work with flash, tried messing around with the actionscript myself, done tutorials in the books, no luck. HUGe waste of time. right now I've got my xml configured, it's all hooked up, and it even shows the first record, and I figured out how to get it to work for a random numbered record even!!! (before it was only showing the LAST record of the loop. i think it might have something to do with that whole "i" variable thingie-yeah, I know, soooo technical)Now if I can only get the stupid thing to get the REST of the records... I'm so getting an actionscript for dummies book. something with visible illustrations and DETAILED descriptions of variables. All the ones out there are WAY over my poor beginners head-i feel like I'm grasping it, and then suddenly -- WHOOPS! look-we added a variable and we're NOT telling you(the reader) why *bangheadondesk*.
*sigh*
i swear I'm not usually this stupid when it comes to this stuff.
(and before I get any of those dont.use.flash messages- it's an internal demonstration of a program replicated in flash-so not flashy blinki-ness and flash + xml was requested of me...no choice really ARG-)
I have a web form I am working on and the testers have said that they think the Enter button should be fixed so that it does not submit the form. I looked up some information but many of them are random Javascript codes adn some of them TOTALLY disable the enter key in the form. Is there any way in the ASP.Net code itself that would just stop the Enter from posting back and not totally shutting it off? If it helps we all use IE6 here (and no I'm not thrilled by this fact.) thanks.
Ok I'm binding to a database using repeaters. I have 2 time fields in my database that show how long a course is, but those 2 fields aren't always used (ie 90-120 minutes or just 60 minutes.) I have the code set up like this:
Note that this is just a sample of another part of the code.
Using this format, I need to know how I would get it so that either the ASP or VB knows that if there is something in the 2nd time field, that it can show something like:
90 minutes to 120 minutes
I can't use a "static" thing though, so I can't just always leave a "to" in there:
This is not an asp.net technical question, but I thought maybe someone here could help me out.
I need to switch web hosts. The one I have now has terrible customer service and thinks that it is normal to take the web server down for several hours every day, and not bother to tell their customers that they do so. I found them through Google and I don't want to try that again.
I've tried looking for recommendations elsewhere, but all the ones I've found have been for Apache web servers. I need an IIS web server that has: ASP.NET/ADO.NET and PHP4/5 supported, MySQL or SQL Server databases, along with the standard mail accounts, web statistics, ftp access, etc. It's just for a couple personal sites, so I don't need a lot of bandwith or space, just need reliable servers with little downtime and good customer service.
I have a project here involving an ASP page with a text area. Users want spellcheck capability within this text area. I found a PHP script (which I know nothing about) and wonder if that will even work with ASP page. Is there javascript I can use?
We currently have an application at my job that uses portlet technology (websphere as far as I know) in order to maintain an track an SQL database filled with articles pertaining to Marketing. It’s a lot of bells and whistles for something that can be easily coded and maintained using either PHP or ASP especially when the guy who is the admin of the application can’t even maintain it. Most of the upgrades and changes are done by another person and not the admin for the application; however, the admin is trying to justify the need for additional portlet technology. I have been asked to research the need and use of portals for our division due to budget cuts.
Currently, we are using MS SQL to develop and maintain databases and use ASP.NET in order to create and develop the webpages. We have a large audience, but the only about 5K of users depending on the application. The servers are running Windows 2000 as well. I would LOVE to have some resources that shows the pros and cons of using WebSphere, or if any of the members have any experience with WebSphere.
