1. Senderbase and apparent false spam accusations

    Date: 08/29/07     Keywords: google

    Hi,

Here's an amended version of my previous, deleted post. It might be just coincidence, but since the power came back on after an outage yesterday, I haven't been able to send email with Outlook 2003 (I'm running XP SP2). I get an error message saying that I've been blacklisted at senderbase.org, which appears to be true when I put in my IP. Why I've been blacklisted I know not. I don't send an abnormally high volume of email by any means. I run two email accounts (Gmail and university) on Outlook, and they both became blocked at the same time. I've rebooted and reset my cable modem and wireless router. I called my ISP, and they said that if they wanted to block my email for some reason, they could only do that if I were sending email through their email service, with which I don't have an account. Finally, my OS X laptop can send from both email accounts using the Mail application. The IP is the same as my that of desktop (the PC). This leads me to believe that the problem must be with Outlook, but I can't figure out what the problem could possibly be.

The error messages also include 0x800CCC6F errors (sadly, I typed that error number from memory), but Google searches didn't turn up anything that helped me.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

  2. Video lag

    Date: 08/28/07     Keywords: virus, spyware

I have been consistently experiencing video lag. It only happens while online (e.g. watching movies on netflix, playing computer games on a network), and only the video lags - the sound is fine. When I check, I find that my CPU is running at 100% during these lags. This never happens when running other programs. What could be causing the lag, and what can I do about it?

I have a Dell Inspiron 600m running Windows XP. I have a 1.6 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, 52 G hard drive, mobility radeon 9000. I have run speed tests and consistently get a download speed around 1.3-1.5 Mbps and an upload speed of 350-400 kbps. I don't need to defrag. I have checked for viruses/spyware, so that isn't the problem. I can get you any other info that might be helpful. (At first I thought it was the RAM, but I play games with my brother who has an older computer and less RAM and still has no lag problems ...)

  3. Quick Advice

    Date: 08/27/07     Keywords: no keywords

    OK,
I resolved the problem that I was having the other day by creating a new .pst file and importing the important data into it.

That said, the user still has the problem where everything they send outbound from Outlook is being forwarded to their blackberry and their iPhone.

I cannot find anything in any setting anywhere for this in outlook and I also cannot find anything in their gmail account settings.

    Any ideas?

  4. Hi again...Norton problems

  5. Hi, if anyone can help me.

    Date: 08/23/07     Keywords: virus, google

I am going really crazy on this blue screen error message, and maybe someone has had a similar problem, and can help me.

    When I start the computer it gives me this error Stop: 0x0000008e ( 0x0000005, 0x8064641a, 0xf8b4caa0, 0x00000000)

    I can't not load on safe mode, when I try it gives me a similar message Stop:0X0000007B (0xf8b4d528, 0XC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I can load the computer when it says Last Known Good Configuration( Your most recent settings that worked)

I tried running a virus scan with Norton, and it wouldn't work. I tried uninstalling it through the control panel, and it would just get to the blue screen. I restarted the computer again with Last Know Good Configuration, and uninstall Norton using Norton removal tool, thinking I could just install it. Of course I couldn't reinstall Norton. I have looked all over Google for answers but I am confused even more.

Please I need some help! Thank you.

  6. Here's an interesting one

    Date: 08/23/07     Keywords: no keywords

    The Facts:
    OS: Vista Ultimate
    Outlook 2007
Gmail account (333 messages total in gmail online box, earlies to of which is 7/21/07)
    MSN Account - dangerously full

    The problem:
Out-bound email was always forwarding to both the user's blackberry and his iPhone. So he poked around with settings.
Outlook stopped being able to receive ANY email.
I blew away the settings and re-set them up, correctly..

Now Outlook keeps downloading 413 new messages.
The SAME 413 new messages... over and over and over again.
I thought, perhaps, this was a combination of MSN and gmail, so I removed the MSN account... and it is STILL downloading the same 413 messages. Note - only 333 messages even in the gmail account according to gmail.

    And wait, there's more!

The newest message being downloaded is older than the oldest message in the gmail account.

Anyone have ANY idea what is going on here?

Hello. I have a Windows XP Professional system that is FUBAR.

    * When I try to launch a shortcut from the desktop, start menu, or control panel, I get the following error:
"WINDOWS CANNOT ACCESS THE SPECIFIED DEVICE, PATH, OR FILE. YOU MAY NOT HAVE THE APPORPRIATE PERMISSIONS TO ACCESS THE ITEM."

    * I can not launch regedit, and I get the same error
    * I can not install applications, even as Administrator. (I tried installing AdAware 2007).

    * I can navigate the hard drive and some things open, some things do not.
    * I checked the Sharing & Security tab and set the EVERYONE account to FULL ACCESS
    * I checked the Local Security Policy for anything that prevents me from installing applications, but I can't seem to find this setting.
    * The computer is "protected" with TrendMicro PC-Cillin 2007 and nothing was detected as far as virus/spyware.

    THANKS for any help.

  8. Problems with Windows Vista

    Date: 08/23/07     Keywords: no keywords

I've just gotten a spanking new laptop today but was thwarted by a tricky Windows Vista that seemed to swallow up whatever files I download. It seems that every file that is downloaded is sent to the "Temporary Folder". The only problem is, I don't know WHERE it is! Can anyone help me out here? It's driving me insane. I didn't have this kind of problems with my XP. :(

Date: 08/17/07     Keywords: software, virus, antivirus, web, microsoft

I've always been able to switch between different users on the computer without having to log out, but for some reason it won't anymore. I've been to the Microsoft website but haven't found any help. As far as I can tell, there's something wrong with my Terminal Services and Fast User Switching and I cannot turn either of them on. I installed a new antivirus software that I think disabled them, but I still couldn't get it working after I uninstalled it and for some reason none of my backups make a difference. I'm using Windows XP Professional if that helps.

Could anybody offer any help? It's so annoying not being able to switch between accounts. I've been told that formatting the computer will fix the problem, but I really don't want to do that..

    Thanks.

Is there anything I can do to fix this, or is there an alternative language support pack I can download to view Japanese text on my computer screen? 15. Weird monitor distortion

    Date: 08/15/07     Keywords: no keywords

I've been on someone else's computer the last week or so, and the past couple days there has been a weird problem with Firefox. Whenever I start it up, it distorts the screen thusly:

When I close Firefox, it goes back to normal. I've reinstalled it a few times to no avail. I've also noticed that every now and then, firefox.exe just goes missing, and I have to reinstall again. The screen also distorts like that about 60% of the time while Windows starts up. So far at least, I haven't noticed this happening with any other applications. Internet Explorer is fine. I'm making this post on Portable Firefox on my flash drive, which obviously is also working fine. Any ideas? Thanks for your time!

  16. Piece of Headphone Adapter Stuck Inside Laptop

    Date: 08/15/07     Keywords: no keywords

    OS: Windows XP
Brand: HP... not exactly sure of the number but it's one of last summer's entertainment notebooks.

Haven't included a ton of info because I don't think it's relevant to the problem but if it is I'll do my best to find out!

Right so... I have some nice headphones which require an adapter to be played on my laptop. Unfortunately the very end of the adapter came off INSIDE the headphone jack (plug?) of my laptop. Many, many people have tried to get it out but because it is so tiny and so jammed in there it has been decided that there's no way it's coming out. Unfortunately in the process of this fiddling about my sound stopped working altogether (even from the speakers). I'm hoping that this is just because the piece was jammed so far in that the laptop now things it's playing through headphones.

So my question is... assuming that I haven't destroyed my sound card or anything internally... is there any way I can switch the audio input/output feeds so that my microphone jack is my headphone jack and vice versa? I know you used to be able to do that on ooold PCs but is there any way I can do it on my laptop? Or is there a way I can tell my computer to ignore the headphone jack altogether? As much as I would love to be able to use headphones I will definitely settle for getting any sort of sound back.

My laptop is basically useless to me if I don't have sound so I'm pretty upset over this. And I don't really have the cash to sound it away to HP and have them replace the whole thing.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

  19. Question on file sharing

    Date: 08/07/07     Keywords: software

At home, I have a desktop PC running Windows XP (home) and it is networked with a laptop running Windows Vista. I also have a cable Internet connection with a Linksys wireless router connecting the two computers. Now, normally I have no problems. The setup was easy and using it is usually a breeze. One of the problems that I've had was with file sharing. I turned on file sharing for both of my "Documents" folders on both machines. When I go to the laptop and go to access the documents folder (that's located on the desktop PC) over the network, I usually (not always, but usually) can see the shared folder. From there, I can access all of the subfolders and files with no problems, whatsoever. I have an excellent signal with the router so I know that can't be causing any problems.

The main problem I have is when I use the desktop PC to access the shared folder (on the laptop) I can't see it at all. I made sure in the settings that file sharing is turned on and still I can't see the folder. I went to the router's software and it detects the laptop perfectly. I have a great connection with the two computers but I can't seem to access the laptop's shared folder through the PC. I'm sure it's a simple solution; Maybe a setting that I need to change. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do???

    Thank you in advance.

Okay, so somehow my laptop was infected with a fairly harmless, but annoying program that randomly pops up a web browser for "amerires.com".

I ran HijackThis but can't find anything that would be affecting any of my browsers. I've run LavaSoft's Ad-Aware with the latest updates and a full system scan with Avast Home with latest updates as well. Nothing is detected. I ran SpyBot Search and Destroy and nothing was detected either.
