1. making code secure

Date: 12/19/05 (PHP Community)    Keywords: php, sql, google

Are there tools I can use to test my scripts for injections, prior to releasing to the public?

If there are standalone products would you be so kind as to provide the name, so I can google a download page?

If there are pages explaining how to actually do php/sql injections could someone provide that too?

Date: 12/21/05 (Mozilla)    Keywords: yahoo, google

I just upgraded to Firefox 1.5 here at work, and I'm still having trouble with sites like mapquest, yahoo and google maps. The maps either don't fully load, or clicking to zoom in/out does not work. I first noticed this after I installed a flash block extension, but it's still troubling me, even though I have removed it. Does anybody have any ideas what the problem may be?

    I'm using it on a Win2K machine.

    iFrames.

What do you think? Last time I remember hearing about them, they were supported only by IE, and were mostly pretty unstable. A quick google around tells me that they seem to be supported by most browsers now. Is that true?

What are your experiences? Are they stable, or do they fall apart at the slightest hint of incompatability? Are there any real features/benefits to using them over other methods? Do they manage to get over the disadvantages of frames, as they were intended to do, or do they create a whole new host of problems?

Personally, I'm probably going to stick to a nifty combination of CSS and SSI, but I'd still like to know whether iFrames are a viable option.

  8. New Graphics Card Problem?

Date: 12/26/05 (Computer Geeks)    Keywords: google

I have a problem I'm not quite sure how to describe. I did a google search and couldn't find what I'm looking for.

I just installed a new graphics card on my computer. Now every fourth vertical pixel column (whatever it's called) is really really thin; maybe not even there. All my text is really messed up, and everything on the screen looks like complete crap. This happened to me before, but not because of a new graphics card. I think it was after I installed a new secondary drive. I have no idea what I did to fix it that time though.

I have an HP Pavillion 854n with XP MCE (SP2), and my monitor is a 27 inch Syntax ölevia, in case that has anything to do with it.

Does anyone here know what's causing this, how to fix it, or what a vertical pixel column is called so I don't have to keep calling it that? Thanks for any help.

  9. micrapera? (first post, cross posted, sorry)

Date: 12/26/05 (Opera Browser)    Keywords: microsoft, google, shopping

    hi, i'm new here *waves*

so slashdot has pointed to articles rumoring that opera is being / has already been bought by microsoft

okay, stop screaming.  this is following another reported rumor last week that google was about to buy out opera, which fortunately opera themselves laughed off as false, as they also did with this (even more ridiculous) rumor here, here and here, so we can all sleep well tonight.

there's even a hilarious poll asking opera fans to vote on who the next comany to be rumored opera shopping will be here.  they need to add microsoft (microsopera?  microsoft internet oxplora?  how about micrapera?) to the list.

    which makes me wonder:

exactly what would a micrapera bastardized half-breed broswer be like?

i imagine lots and lots and lots of completely unnecessary and ridiculous features no one uses while they'd take out all the useful ones.  maybe they'd hide them under eighteen million extra (ugly) buttons and menus.  when micrapera would crash (and it would of course) so would your computer and everyone else's computer on your neighborhood, and maybe your printer would get possessed by the devil.  the opera logo would be changed to a blue O with a hoop around it like an orbit.  maybe the 404 error would be replaced by a blue screen, or maybe a red one?  oh and it would come preloaded with a worm or two.  i don't know.

i'm too creeped out now, so feel free to add to the list :-)

  10. MP3 player question

Date: 12/26/05 (Computer Geeks)    Keywords: google

I've googled this a bit, but nothing I've found tells me what I need to do. Perhaps one of you know?

I got a SanDisk 512 MB "M" series mp3 player for christmas. I put my songs on it, it works lovely. :) The only problem is, I don't want those songs on there anymore. When I use windows explorer to try and find those files, they don't show up, even when I allow hidden files to be viewed.

I'm running xp, if that makes any difference for this problem...

    Help would be appreciated. :)

  12. bookmark management help!

Date: 12/29/05 (Web Development)    Keywords: php, browser, web, google

I would like to automatically update my homepage with a list of bookmarks that I find while I surf the net. It should be as simple as clicking a button on my browser such as "Link This!" whenever I find a webpage I like. And a window like this appears for me to add information:

Categories can be added and customized.

The link that is added will be automatically reflected on a webpage.

Does anyone know how this is accomplished? Or what should I google for more information? Is this PHP?

Many thanx for any help! :)

    Edit: Problem solved! Thank you!

  13. virtual hosting

Date: 01/03/06 (IT Professionals)    Keywords: html, web, hosting, google

I need some iis help here. (or meta refresh/redirect?)

I'm not a web guy by trade, but this thing falls on my lap anyway.

    --
ok: I just did a domain transfer of mydomainB.com from some china registrar to godaddy.com

godaddy.com doesn't seem to have URL forwarding, only domain forwarding and A and Cnames, mx

(as opposed to the one i use for my own private domain www.domainbooking.com)

I just turned on domain forwarding to point to mydomainA.com/mywebsite but I'm not sure if it will corrupt the mx entries for mail. (which should point to mail.mydomainB.com , in turn A for mail.mydomainB.com = 12.34.56.78)

assuming it does and I reverse the domain forwarding.
then what I have is that my current A for www.mydomainA.com = 11.22.33.44
and my new A for www.mydomainB.com points to 11.22.33.44 as well

but they are supposed to be two distinct websites.

so I need to redirect by url? perhaps on my index.html. those that originate from www.mydomainA.com proceed to index1.html and those from www.mydomainB.com proceed to 11.22.33.44/mywebsite/index.html

I think this falls under the category of virtual hosting, i've been searching google for bit with not much luck.
I'm not sure host headers work for wan/internet domain names, and godaddy/A addressing doesn't quite allow you to specify port numbers either.

to add to the complication, the website is also hosting an exchange outloook mobile access site. so http://www.mydomainA.com/exchange should be accessible.

so how do I do this?

  17. Boston MySQL Meetup Group

Date: 01/06/06 (MySQL Communtiy)    Keywords: mysql, sql, google

The MySQL Meetup group meeting on Monday, January 9th will focus on backups -- I will give a 30-45 minute presentation on backups and we will then delve into a discussion -- how folks within the group are backing up, how they're not backing up, how they'd like to back up. If there's time, we'll do a "lessons learned from backup horror stories".

Afterwards, we'll head a few doors down to Boston Beer Works for more chatting.

You can see a video of last month's presentation by Philip Antionades of MySQL AB on the new features in MySQL 5.0 at Google Video:

    http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=Mysql+5.0+by+Philip+Antoniades

(we will video this month's presentation but not the discussion)

More details, including the event location and directions, are at: http://mysql.meetup.com/137/events/

I encourage you to sign up to receive notification of events, and participate in discussions outside of the meetups. I won't always be posting here.

Any questions, comments, etc should be sent to me. We're currently looking for a space better than North Station -- something around MIT might be nice, and we're trying to get an MIT grad student/faculty/staff member/organization to sponsor it. (We want a location that's good for people driving AND taking the T, and when the Garden has an event, it's not feasible to park there). If you can help out, please let me know.

(You may forward this announcement to other groups, lists, blogs, whatever.)

I'm quite excited about the presentation, as I'm writing down a lot of information from different sources that really wants to be together, but as far as I can tell is not yet, at least not in a public place.

  20. NASA Audio Files

Date: 01/08/06 (Computer Geeks)    Keywords: google

Thanks much for the conversion of those two .rm files, '[info]'barbobot!

I find that I'm still missing a few samples that I want for my composition, and I've exhausted the very few NASA files that I've been able to find.

Anyone know of a good repository of NASA audio, across the whole spectrum (that is, from Mercury all the way up to current operations)? It's all public domain (your tax dollars at work, and I mean that in a good way). so it should be out there somewhere...

.wav format is best, but any format is better than nothing.

Google is only showing me recent NASA interviews and people offering to sell video compilations.
