Is Rodi BitTorrent’s Replacement?
Date: 05/31/05
(Open Source) Keywords: java
Rodi is a small-client p2p application, written in Java, that improves on BitTorrent by allowing both content searches and full anonymity. It's released under the General Public License (GNU). The client can be accessed here. Even your IP address can be hidden using Rodi through a process called "bouncing." That is if A wants a [...]

best forum for coldfusion developers?
Date: 05/31/05
(WebDesign) Keywords: php, software, java, web, google
Hi folks, new to the community, and new to ColdFusion - however I have many years of experience in software development and web design using other languages and technologies.
I've checked out the excellent ColdFusion links in the community userinfo, and beyond those I was wondering - where's the best online forum out there for ColdFusion developer brainshare?
I saw the one at Macromedia's own site, it was okay but not very impressive. Coming from other development communities like PHP and Java I was wondering if the ColdFusion community is just much less talkative, and that's as good as it gets? Also I'm usually leary of forums run by software manufacturers, as sometimes they are questionably moderated when critcism gets posted.
Anyways thanks in advance for any reccomendations. Serious CF developers only please - I can Google for random sites all by myself. I'm wondering what the "pros" prefer.

Make a rolldown menu follow the window
Date: 06/01/05
(Javascript Community) Keywords: java
Hi there,
I have a javascript rolldown menu made by Fireworks, it works fine. But I need to make the rolldown follow the menu if the window is resized (or if the user is using a 800 X 600 screen resolution)
You can view it here:
http://www.gocommunications.ca/gagnon/index.htm
Is there a way to access the names of those variables, perhaps through the window object?
The purpose of this is debugging... I have an input textbox and a button, and when the user clicks the button, it "evaluates" the contents of the textbox using "window[document.forms[0].txt[0].value]".
So if the user enters "aaaa" and presses the button, it tells them that the value of aaaa is 2.
But if they don't know the case-sensitive name and spelling of the variable, or perhaps didn't even know it existed, I want to give them a list of all the variables. Is this possible? Does it make sense?

Sessions Form Data
Date: 06/15/05
(PHP Community) Keywords: browser, java
Before I added the Sessions functions to my project, a user could click the browser back (or javascript history) and the form data would be there. Now with Sessions enabled, the data is missing.
Is there a work-around to this clearing of the form?

Hello
Date: 06/16/05
(PHP Community) Keywords: php, mysql, software, xml, sql, java, web
Hello, I’m a second year Computer Science student at Cal Poly, SLO. With no open source or real world experience however I'm really eager to get involved in the open source community and start help developing software. Does any one have any suggestions for a newb. I would like to work on development of web applications preferably using PHP, MySQL, XML and using Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (Ajax). However I am a beginner in all of these languages.
- What would be some good starting points for me? (Communities, progjects, work)
- Being that I'm a beginner how do I go about finding simple tasks/projects to start out with?
- Live Journal looks interesting to me but I have my heart set on learning PHP not perl. Is this dumb? Should I not be focused on the language but rather the project?
Thanks in advance for any advice you have for a newb.

8.01
Date: 06/16/05
(Opera Browser) Keywords: xml, java, security
After weeks of delays, version 8.01 has finally been released.
It's worth getting for the following reasons (there are, of course, many others):
- It contains several security fixes.
- It finally adds enough support for XmlHttpRequest such that LiveJournal's nifty javascript comment handling stuff works.
p.s. if you're going to Opera.com anyway, use this link ← only 217 more hits to go :P
