Whitewashing on MySpace: FF3 error?
Date: 12/18/08
Keywords: no keywords
Has anyone else had this problem? I'm not sure if it might be due to Firefox or not. (Using FF3)
MySpace pages load, then quickly fall under a full-screen whitewash that I can kind of see through. No links under the whitewash are clickable. (Well, sometimes they are, but usually not.) If I scroll down, it seems that the click-proof whitewash only goes down as far as the first full length of screen, then the rest of the page looks normal and clicks work. This doesn't happen all the time, and sometimes happens to varying degrees - as in, sometimes I can click through the whitewash (but usually not).
Enabling all scripts through NoScript seems to make no difference. Setting AdBlock to green seems to make no difference.
I don't use MySpace myself, but sometimes I'm directed there for one thing or another, and I'd like to be able to view the page and click links.
This problem happens only with MySpace pages.

Torbutton
Date: 12/17/08
Keywords: google
Hello, I'm hoping one of you computer-savvy people can give a n00b a little help:
I am trying to use Tor and Privoxy in conjunction with Firefox. So far, I've gotten stuck just linking Tor to Privoxy. After looking through Privoxy's guide and getting stuck at the "Forwarding" part, I decided to give TorButton a go, though I've heard some bad things about it.
I installed Torbutton. On the bright side, it appeared to mask my IP address when I visited whatsmyip.org, so it was working. On the downside, I couldn't click any links or see any images. It absolutely forbid me to leave the Google search results page!
I haven't found anyone who has had this problem. Any suggestions? Would it be better to just not use Torbutton, and try to configure tor and privoxy by themselves--and if so, does an idiot-friendly guide exist for this?
Thanks so much for your help. I've been stuck on this for over two hours. :(

Feature or Bug: No context menu on form buttons?
Date: 12/15/08
Keywords: no keywords
I've been setting up a new laptop and have installed FF3 to it. So far, everything has been going well, but I recently discovered that FF3 has disabled the context menu for form buttons when you right-click on a submit button. It wouldn't bother me, but it prevents me from using the context menu entry of the "SubmitToTab" extension.
Does anyone know if this disabling of the context menu on buttons is intended to be a feature or is it an inadvertent bug?

Hi, a newbie here
Date: 12/06/08
Keywords: html, google
Hi, I'm totally new to Firefox, I just downloaded it last night to get
rid of my ancient IE. But I seem to be having problems.
First, Gmail will not load, at all. I click on the gmail icon in my
toolbar and it will just show a white page with a link that says "load
basic HTML" and it will not let me load the usual gmail page, I have
to use the basic HTML. When I load the exact same gmail page, side by
side with Firefox, in IE, it loads like normal.
In Livejournal, despite not having adblock installed, it won't display
icons, no matter how many times I right click "show image". It also
will not load youtube embedded videos. Also, instead of just making a
drop down window in the same page when I click "post a comment" or
"expand", it will open a whole new tab with that info or
just reload the current page to the post comment page, instead of the
drop down menu. None of this happens in IE. I have an LJ paid account, this used to work in IE, now it doesn't in Firefox. Ack!
This is all driving me insane. If anyone has any idea what to do,
please help!
The only apps I have on my Firefox are:
Google Toolbar 3.1.3
LJ Login
Morning Coffee
US Dictonary
I'm running the most recent Firefox.
Thanks!

Focus Weirdness with Firefox
Date: 11/21/08
Keywords: linux
(This is a post I made to the Linux community, but got no help. Apologies for the duplication, to anyone who may have already seen this.)
I'm pretty sure this only started happening fairly recently... after realizing that my laptop's video card is better-supported under Ubuntu 8.04 (with the Gnome desktop), I played around with compiz a bit. But somewhere along the way, Firefox (v. 3) developed a strange behavior with regards to focus: it keeps losing it. I even switched back to the no-frills WM for Gnome, and it still has this problem. A basic synopsis of what happens, is:
* Start with a FF window, click on it to focus if it isn't already
* Load a page, when the throbber stops rotating, the window suddenly becomes unfocused
* Click to re-focus, reload the page and it goes away again
* If I have multiple tabs open, switching tabs with the keyboard (ctrl-tab) also loses focus
The focus isn't going anywhere that I can tell. That is, there is no other window that suddenly *has* the focus, it's just that FF *doesn't*.
I noticed while experimenting with compiz, that FF seemed to develop a number of "ghost" windows that would appear when I hit alt-tab to switch between apps/windows. These don't show up in the switcher when running the no-frills WM, but I wonder if they are still there, it's just that the default WM (metacity) set their WM hints better than compiz does, and that one of these "ghosts" is what keeps getting the focus? Either way, as a very keyboard-centric user it's seriously cramping the usability.
Anyone else see anything like this?

Thunderbird RSS questions
Date: 10/21/08
Keywords: rss, google
As of late, I've been using Thunderbird as my RSS feeder. I've run into two inconveniences, however.
* Embedded media (Youtube vids, etc.) don't seem to show up on the pages in the feed. Is there an option or an addon that would allow the media to appear?
ETA: Apparently it's a case of being able to view flash in Thunderbird. Is that possible?
* When I click on a RSS link, it goes to google's page asking me if I want it on igoogle or google reader. Is there a way that it could automatically go to Thunderbird?
Thanks in advance.

Firefox 3 runs slow on AMD 780g chipset...
Date: 10/17/08
Keywords: no keywords
Around two weeks ago I upgraded my system with a mainboard which has the AMD 780g chipset onboard instead of a graphics-card. It works very fine, under all conditions... except under Firefox 3.0.3 (Windows XP SP3). Yes, I already updated the drivers, but the problem is still there. And when I browse the AMD Forums, many others do have the same problem and nothing worked. AMD is aware of this problem, but they blame Firefox for this, which I just can't believe. My old system had a ATI graphics-card (AGP) where I didn't have this problem at all. Why didn't I keep that card in the system? Well... the mainboard doesn't have AGP anymore.
Does anyone else have this chip and know this problem and - maybe - know a solution, instead of waiting for AMD moving their asses and bring out a working driver?

Need help - Streaming Video - Firefox & Mac Leopard user
Date: 10/01/08
Keywords: no keywords
Hey all,
I'm new to this community so sorry if this question is redundant to you!
I have a new Macbook, running Leopard and Firefox 3.03
I would like to stream www.c-span.org videos on my computer
I installed Flip For Mac plug ins, because c-span uses WMP (windows media plyr) and Mac needs plugins to become compatible. However, from what I have gathered, flip for mac is not being recognized in firefox for this purpose.
If anyone can offer some insight o this issue, a new plug in or otherwise any help! Please comment.
my email is iletitshine at gmail dot com in case I lose track of this thread.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

SeaMonkey questions
Date: 09/26/08
Keywords: browser
A few years ago, it took me a few tries to get to where I could use Opera, and now it's my default browser. I've tried SeaMonkey from time to time, and I just got the latest version. I like it a lot, but have a couple of problems. I use Digsby IM and really like clicking on it to get to MySpace, where it logs me in and lets me avoid MySpace's habit of changing their login page address so that I can't do it automatically with Opera's wand. If I have no browser open, or Opera open, clicking from Digsby takes me to MySpace on Opera. When I have SeaMonkey open, clicking on Digsby's link opens IE! OMG I hate that! I don't want to see IE. I'd like it to open the link in the browser I am using or the default browser.
I'm using the mail client in SeaMonkey. The white background is killing my eyes, it's so stark. I can change the color behind the e-mail content, but I want to change the entire background of the program to light grey. It's this way in Opera's mail client and I think in Thunderbird, too. My Windows theme settings are already that way, so it isn't using my system colors even when I tell it to.
I saw something online about changing the name iexplore or iexplorer.exe to seamonkey, but don't know how to do it. I can't find iexplore or iexplore.exe, even though I have xplorer2 to search for files.
Help?!

Script Problems.
Date: 03/15/08
Keywords: browser, google
My Grandfather's computer is running FireFox v2.0.0.12 and when he left on a trip everything was fine. When he came back apparently there are Script Problems.
Everytime he tries to open the browser an error message lets him know that:
"Warning: Unresponsive script
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete."
I thought initially that his homepage (myway.com) was having issues so when I went over to fix it, I changed his homepage to google, tried it again and the same error message.
He has no addins, extensions, or themes. It doesn't matter what his homepage is he gets this script error.
I know I'm not much of a computer guy so any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Export attachments

I've got about three years worth of images collected from a mailing list I'm on in a couple of folders. I'd like to get rid of those folders, as well as move the images to my hard drive for sorting purposes. Is there a script or a plug-in that will let me export attachments from Thunderbird automagically, as opposed to one-by-one?

trouble moving tabs
Date: 03/02/08
Keywords: virus
Today I noticed that I couldn't change the position of any of my tabs. Each tab was basically stuck in the position that it was opened in. This isn't a huge deal, but it personally annoys me. After googling I came up with this. I followed the instructions and removed the advertismen.com code. This took care of my copy/paste problem, but the tabs are still stuck.
So far:
I ran my anti-virus and Spybot twice (advertismen.com removed)
Deleted suspicious files
Restarted computer
Followed intructions in aforementioned link
Created a new Firefox profile
Reinstalled Firefox
Does anyone know how to fix this? D:

Firefox Tabs
Date: 02/24/08
Keywords: no keywords
Is there a way of saving the tabs in Firefox so as it opens the ones you were looking at last time you used it? Hmm, I'm sure there's a better way of explaining that. When the computer has shut down unexpectedly, Firefox offers you the option of restoring your previous session when you restart it. Is there a way of making it do that as standard? I can't find any suitable add-ons.
Thanks very much for any help you can give me.

Firefox not saving most visited sites
Date: 02/18/08
Keywords: no keywords
So, you know how Firefox saves the sites you visit the most in the address bar with the drop-down arrow? I started Firefox this morning and it's acting like my I completely erased all my cookies because it's not loading any of my most visited sites. Even when I click on links, the blue link doesn't change to purple once I click it and doesn't register in my history. In fact, my history side-bar is completely blank. It doesn't have anything that I've visited even since opening Firefox this morning. I quit it and restarted it just in case it was a fluke, and it did the same thing. It's acting like I've never even used it before every time I restart it. Does anyone know why this could be? I'm on a Mac, by the way.
ETA: I think I fixed it. Under the 'Privacy' tab in Preferences, the 'remember visited pages for the last __ days' was unchecked. I don't know how it happened, but it seems to be fixed now. Does anyone know what the standard number of days to remember is? I just put in 50, but I'm curious as to what the default setting is.

Rich Text Editor problems
Date: 02/16/08
Keywords: cms, browser, java
(Cross-posted to javascript)
A couple of years ago, I used this code to build a rich text editor for an inhouse CMS at work. One of the smaller bugs that I've never bothered to deal with until now was that whenever you used the editor in a Firefox/Mozilla browser, the page never stopped loading. I've been Googling and working on it today, with no success.
Has anyone else ever had this problem? If so, what did you do to fix it?
