  2. Comments aren't threading

    Date: 01/07/08     Keywords: no keywords

Hi all - I started using Firefox several months ago, had LJ addons and have never had a problem until now. As of last night, the comments on entries aren't threading, they're all as if people aren't replying to each other but commenting on the entry directly. I tried uninstalling the LJ addons and reinstalling it but that didn't fix it. It was happening so much I opened up a IE window to see if it was actually LJ but things were fine there.

I'm finding this morning that they are threading properly on a certain friend's journal but not in others and not in any communities.

Is anyone else having this problem or know how I can fix it?

    Thanks!

  3. CSS display issues

Date: 01/05/08     Keywords: css, html, web

For some reason CSS display randomly stops working for certain websites. It isn't bad coding... Rather, it's as if Firefox isn't reading the CSS. LiveJournal, Photobucket, and MySpace are examples. The pages display in pure HTML, without formatting of any kind and it's ugly. Drives me a little nuts on sites with div navigation.

    Here's a screen grab.

It's happened once or twice before. In my XP machine and now my Vista laptop. It isn't scripts or adblock because I've disabled all that. It's nothing on my system because when I ended up doing a clean reinstall of Firefox, it was fine again.

Anyone know of this issue or how I can fix it without having to do another clean reinstall? I'd like to avoid having to customize from scratch again with all my favorite scripts and and extensions.

  4. heart symbol

    Date: 12/18/07     Keywords: html, google

I recently had to get my iBook repaired by Apple (I really should learn not to spill tea on the keyboard), and they returned it to me with the hard drive wiped. I've been putting things back together, including installing Firefox again, but there's something I can't find on the Mozilla home page or with a Google search, and it's driving me nuts.

I know there's a way to do something in Preferences, I think in the Advanced section on fonts, that will make ♥ (the html for a heart symbol) show up as an actual heart and not the vertical line it's appearing as now. I think I found the way to do this from a link to the old LJ community for Firefox fans that has since been deleted. Is there anyone here who knows what I'm talking about and how to make it happen?

  5. the red dot of doom

    Date: 12/12/07     Keywords: browser

Ever since upgrading to the newest version of firefox, I will get the "red dot of doom" as graphic files are loading, instead of the regular placeholder graphic that browsers, including firefox, usually have.

In the past, this meant that the cache was full. Once you emptied it and restarted firefox, everything would be fine.

Now, it seems to show up arbitrarily. My cache will be nowhere near full (4 MB with a 150 MB limit.) However, if I exit out of firefox and start it back up again, it is fine.

Has anyone else been having this problem? (I'm on windows xp sp2) I'm also using the noscript and download helper add-ons.

  6. Help me. :(

    Date: 11/28/07     Keywords: web

I don't know what the hell is up with my laptop lately, and I'm not sure if it's had something to do with FireFox magically not working, but maybe someone here can help a gal out.
FireFox updated itself yesterday, and now when I open it, I get an unable to connect error stating:

    # The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.

    # If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.

    # If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

It's most definitely not the first two bullets. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem who could possibly tell me what to do? I loathe IE.

I have Vista, by the way.

  9. Right-click Executes in Download Manager

    Date: 11/11/07     Keywords: no keywords

For some strange reason, my Firefox has begun to automatically execute--as if I were left-clicking--whenever I right-click. The context menu (if applicable) will still pop up, but the default action of the button/link occurs.

It just started this afternoon for no apparent reason that I can comprehend. As far as I am aware, I haven't made any changes to Firefox recently, I haven't made any changes to my OS configuration recently, and I haven't installed any new programs recently. After the bug began to occur, I did go through with the upgrade from 2.0.0.8 to 2.0.0.9 just to see if that would resolve the issue, but it did not.

Anyone have any ideas, suggestions, educated guesses, or wild guesses?

  10. self-aligning windows?

    Date: 11/10/07     Keywords: no keywords

How can I turn off self-aligning windows? It drives me nuts...when I move a window (say like the download window) to the side, its because I want to look at two things at once, it doesn't mean that I want all windows to move to the same location.

I'm on a mac, OSX 10.4.10, and whatever the most updated firefox is...

    thanks!

  11. How to explicitly allow cookies for all livejournal.com domains in Firefox?

    Date: 11/09/07     Keywords: no keywords

Update 2: Ahh shit, apparently wildcards don't work?!? For some reason, it allows me to enter a "*" (and domain names can only contain, by design, 0-9, a-z, and _ or - so its not like * or any other character will ever be in a domain name) but, refuses to interpret it! So it looks like blocking cookies from ads.* won't work. That, um, really sucks. At least it is honoring the top-level domain thing tho.

Update: Nevermind, I found it.. its just that the box to type it in is a really dim grey outline at the top of the popup window and I'm still not used to using a Mac in the first place, LOL...

Seriously, the bottom of the textbox is literally invisible due to the intersection of a white background in firefox (instead of brushed metal I guess). With no brushed metal, what I get is a partly outlined white-textbox on a white background, with no bottom, to enter URLs in! LOL. Fucking mac!

Any dentists around that can give a Firefox some brushed metal fillings?
    ---
How do I tell Firefox that livejournal.com domains are allowed to set cookies?

Since livejournal.com unfortunately jumps straight to www.livejournal.com, I never get a chance to be asked if I want to allow domain cookies, so my only options currently appear to be "Let anyone lay down tracking cookies whenever they want", "Break all compatibility with anything that needs a login", or "Pester me each and every time I visit a different journal".

Crap like esomniture, which has a scheme that uses unlimited subdomains in a pathetic attempt to bypass /etc/hosts blocking, that I can just adblock or create fake DNS entries for to get rid of it entirely. Obviously thats not the case with LJ...

  12. Help.

    Date: 11/05/07     Keywords: no keywords

Hi guys, I installed the 2.0.0.9 update a few days ago and now my bookmarks are gone today and my bookmark tool bar is blank. My bookmarks that were on my tool bar are now in the regular bookmark folder and the rest have disappeared. I searched this community and read to uninstall extensions, so I did. I now have no extensions and only the Firefox default theme under add-ons. Restarted my computer and they are still not there... Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

  13. Thunderbird junk mail folder issue

    Date: 10/14/07     Keywords: virus

Howdy, new here ::waves::  And, I brought cookies .... ::passes tray around::

I am a long time Firefox and Thunderbird user. Love it!  Windows XP, if it matters.

Have a new issue I'm not sure about.  When I delete all the mail from my junk folder, my junk folder still shows that there are messages in it.  It started about a week ago, leaving 4 messages in there, now I'm up to 12, I think.  However, I can't actually see any messages, nor can I select any using ctrl+a in order to delete them.  I'm concerned it is some kind of a virus, or something, and I'm running all my programs over and over to try to catch it, but nothing is coming up.

Suggestions and ideas welcome, even if it's just "chill out, it's all normal and OK!"

    Thanks in advance

  14. HP Officejet 7400 series and Firefox issues - Please Help!

    Date: 10/14/07     Keywords: google

    Howdy

So my grandfather is having an issue with his HP Officejet 7400 when trying to print out of firefox. I've checked for updates with firefox but he's running 2.0.0.7 and there doesn't seem to be any other updates available. He's never had a problem printing out of FF before, but now he is.

He can print in I.E., Word and every other program just fine, but not in firefox. I've googled for issues linked between the two, but nothing other than Vista issues (we're on XP Pro here) came up. Does anyone know what's going on? Should I just downgrade a few updates in FF or just tell him that for now he's stuck with I.E.?

Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!

OH! I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that there's an error message that pops up when printing.

    "System Error

The document cannot be printed due to a system error.

Try printing again. If unsuccessful, restart Windows and try printing again."

Bullshit - that doesn't work. I've restarted this computer a thousand times.

    Thanks again!

  16. winmail.dat

    Date: 09/29/07     Keywords: no keywords

Does anyone know what a winmail.dat file is? Every now and again, when someone tries to email me an attachment (often a Word document), instead of the attachment that I am expecting I get a file called winmail.dat, which my computer doesn't recognise. Most attachments I get come through fine.

What I would like to know is what this is, and what advice I can give to people to sort it out so the correct attachment comes through. I suspect it is something to do with Windows.

The only way to close the addons window is CTRL ALT Delete......

I've been having a number of issues lately.

Popups won't open, even if I allow them for a site.
    Java doesn't work.
    My bookmarks come and go.
Some addons work (colorfultabs, stop hammertime, super dragandgo); some don't (greasemonkey, hyperwords, google send to phone).

Any ideas? I've tried reinstalling Firefox with no luck.

    Thanks in advance.

    Date: 09/18/07     Keywords: no keywords

Hi, every time I reply on the box at thunderbird to answer a comment and click on post reply, I have the same message:

    Error

One or more errors occurred processing your request. Please go back, correct the necessary information, and submit your data again.

Comment not posted: POST required, or missing parameter.

Is there a way for me to fix this problem? I have tried on firefox adding www.liverjournal.com at the exceptions cookie section and said "allow"

but this is not helping neither.

    What parameter is missing then?

    Thank you.
