1. Query trouble

    Hi!

    According to my host, this query is blocking the mysql by causing a max_user_connections error, but I can't see the problem in it. Can anyone help me, please?

    (The code is PHP)

    $query = "SELECT $entries_table.fic_title, $entries_table.id, $entries_table.fic_url, $entries_table.wip, $entries_table.notes, $entries_table.date, $entries_table.hits,
    $fic_cats_table.fic_id, $fic_cats_table.cat_id
    FROM $fic_cats_table
    LEFT JOIN $entries_table ON $entries_table.id = $fic_cats_table.fic_id
    WHERE $fic_cats_table.cat_id = $cat AND $entries_table.date = '$date' ";

  2. CMS

    Date: 02/06/08 (Web Development)    Keywords: cms, php, mysql, sql, web, linux, hosting

    Hi all,

    I have checked time and time again on the 1and1.com website to see which CMS they support, but their website isn't much help, or perhaps I am looking in the wrong direction.

    I was wondering if anyone here has uploaded a CMS (Content Management System) to their 1and1.com domain and I was wondering how you went about doing this? We prefer a CMS in which users could easily add new pages/delete pages, add new content and with which we could upload our own files - since we will be handing them the site after we've built it, and since they cannot afford to hire someone to maintain all the coding.

    We thought about using the WebBuilder feature, but that only limits our website to 8 pages and wouldn't allow us to upload our own content.

    Our webhosting includes Linux, with PHP and MySQL support - if this means anything to anyone.

    Thanks,

  3. Connecting to online database using MySQL Query Browser

    Date: 02/21/08 (MySQL Communtiy)    Keywords: mysql, browser, database, sql, web

    Hey all

    I'm having difficulties connecting to an online database.

    I uploaded it online using the webhost's database manager.

    As I would need update the database very frequently, therefore going through the webhost way (using the database manager to update) is pretty troublesome... I thought of connecting to the database directly from MySQL query browser.

    So I have the following details (they are all correct, as given and checked by webhost):
    Database name
    Username
    Password
    Server IP

    When I start up MySQL query browser, it shows me this "Connect to MySQL Server Instance" window, prompting me for:
    Stored Connection (i filled it up with 'nameofdatabase' @ 'server IP')
    Server Host (i filled it up with 'server IP')
    Port (it's 3306 by default, so i left that number there)
    Username (i filled it up as given by webhost)
    Password (self explanatory, filled that up too.)
    Default Schema (i filled it up with database's name)

    After filling all those up, I SHOULD be able to connect to my database. Instead, I keep getting this error:
    "Access violation at address 00342F02 in module 'libmysql.dll'. Read of address 00000004."

    What exactly does this error mean??? I really need to connect to the database ASAP. Would appreciate any form of help. Thanks!

  4. hosting question

    Date: 02/21/08 (PHP Community)    Keywords: php, mysql, database, sql, hosting

    i have a new client that moved their site from a good but expensive hosting company to a not so good but inexpensive one. the reason was just price. the expensive one was $300 a month, the inexpensive $100 a year. their site is written in php with a mysql database. they are using about 7.5 megs of their database. the problem, of course, is performance: response is ridiculously slow, they are having form problems, et al. now my question. does anyone here know of any decently good hosting companies that i could recommend to my client? they need a switch, but i don't think they want to go back to the one that is $300 a month. usually i deal with very small sites, so i don't know any myself that can manage all this data. thanks for any help you guys can provide, this community is great :o)

  10. Partner

    Date: 03/23/08 (PHP Community)    Keywords: php, mysql, technology, database, asp, sql, java, web

    Hey everyone! I'm looking for a coding partner for a website I've been working on since last November. I find myself spending more time figuring out things and less time in actual development of the site--of course the learning could be rolled into the development, but it is apparent to me that more actual code needs to be written if I am to finish by my self-set deadline of the end of May.

    The server-side script is done in PHP, the site uses a MySQL database, and there is some Javascript/AJAX implemented on the client-side.

    This is probably the wrong place to find a person who has a strong background working with Javascript, but this is probably what I need more than anything since my knowledge is very limited in this area.

    I can pay something, and I am open to a payment plan based on the revenue the site generates once it is officially launched.

    A little background:

    At one time I was a full-time professional photographer... it didn't work out so well since I really couldn't find a way to bring my potential clients to neutral ground in terms of negotiations. I also networked with many photographers in Orlando and around the United States who all seemed to make the same argument and really had a problem managing the administrative side of their business--often times hiring someone else to do it for the sake of not having to deal with it.

    After completely bombing in the business in late 2006--a year after getting started, and acquring a full-time job in the technology sector, I got out of the business of actually taking the pictures, but the clients seemed to start pouring in due to the search engines ranking my current website high in returned results for folks looking for photographers in Orlando--where I'm based. There was no way that I could do the work while at the same time working my current job as a laser field service engineer--I wouldn't be in town. The solution was to help some of the photographers who I networked with out so I took care of all of the administrative work and hired them to do the actual photoshoot. We had a 40:60 [me:them] financial arrangement worked out which ultimately brought in about $20,000 last year for myself.

    With the business growing, my time becoming more and more valuable, and advice from Mr. Trump [not personally, on T.V. lol] to "think big", I decided to start the National Photographer Group, LLC, and 9photographers.com, to take the whole thing to the web by creating a somewhat self-sufficient website where photographers could, for a monthly charge, use this site to take care of their administrative business--estimates, quotes, invoices, finances, project management, and lead generation.

    As aforementioned, I started coding the site in November of 2007 and have put just about every weekend into some aspect of creating this website and business. I have already received many inquires from photographers anticipating the launch of the website.

    So, I've been stubborn, to some extent, regarding whether or not I want to have somebody else help me with this script. The last thing that I want is for my script to be snatched up and spread over the web and have the business fail because of that. The business is going to go somewhere... but I'm finding that I really can't do it alone... I need some coding help, hence this entry.

    So, if you are interested in working with me to help develop this site, or if you know someone who might be, or can point me in a direction where I can find someone who can help--preferably keeping the business in the U.S.A.-then by all means, please send a comment. Thank you for your time and sorry this was so long.

  11. Updating some code

    Date: 02/22/09 (WebDesign)    Keywords: php, mysql, html, sql, security

    I require the services of a PHP Coder for about 2-3 hours of (what should be) simple work. I had a coder do the back end for a client site a few years ago, and php upgrades + less than perfect code (I guess?) has broken a few things that urgently need repairing.

    One is a security hole of this nature -
    http://www.devshed.com/c/a/PHP/PHP-Programs-to-Prevent-MySQL-Injection-or-HTML-Form-Abuse/

    Essentially, anywhere you have a query that includes a $_REQUEST variable (or a variable that came from a $_REQUEST variable), you need to first validate the value of that variable. If it's a category, it should be a-z,A-Z,0-9 and probably should not include any apostrophes or quotation marks.

    The other is an inline image resizer so when the client uploads their product images all the thumbnails + display photos are within the site guidelines and don't break the layout.

    Please email info AT codebloo DOT com if you're interested. Thanks :)

  12. Shopping Cart advice

    Date: 02/10/09 (Web Development)    Keywords: php, mysql, sql, web, shopping

    A client of ours wants to integrate a shopping cart into their website, but one of the features they want the cart to have is that the product page has to allow for price-altering features to be selected. So say you want to buy a picture. That picture is $24 base. But you want it framed, and you want to choose Frame XX; which is another $32. And you want Matte YY which is another $5.

    The cart would have to show those price increases right on the product page; rather than at checkout.

    I was wondering if anyone could recommend a cart solution for this sort of functionality. We don't mind paying vs. open source, or if the functionality is through a 3rd party addon. The only condition other than providing that feature is that it be PHP / MySQL driven.

    Many thanks in advance.

  13. Problems installing PHP on IIS

    Date: 01/15/09 (Web Development)    Keywords: php, mysql, asp, sql

    Hello all!

    I hope it is a right community for my question.

    I have to setup a new MediaWiki site using IIS.

    The server does not have PHP and MySQL installed, so I must install it first.

    The step 1 was to install PHP.
    I've done it as described here:

    http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/247/using-fastcgi-to-host-php-applications-on-iis-60/

    In this description the file php-cgi.exe is mentioned.

    But I've got only the file php.exe after installation.

    What could be my mistake?

  14. Selective Replication in mySQL 5.X

    Date: 02/03/09 (MySQL Communtiy)    Keywords: mysql, database, sql

    Folks may remember last week when I was asking questions about mysqldumps. I was doing that in order to get a DB backup for a specific database we wanted to replicate on another server, and I've been working on that.

    After some hit and miss I think I nearly got it working, at least to a point where the replication started between the Master and the slave. It seemed to work for a few seconds, then bombed when the slave tried to execute a statement that was for a DB that it didn't have in it.

    The point is that of all the several databases on the Master machine, at this point we only want to replicate one on the slave machine. I thought I had had that set up in the slave's my.cnf with the line

    replicate-do-db - aid #aid is the database we want to replicate

    however High Performance MySQL says that this is not the way to do this since filtering will be done on the current default database. "This is not usually what you want." :-)

    The book does indicate that "On the slave, the relicate_* options filter events as the slave SQL thread reads them from the relay log." This make sense to me, and at this point it also makes sense that the log coming from the master has every statement coming into the DB. It goes on to say that "You can replicate or ignore one or more databases (emphasis mine)...based on LIKE pattern matching syntax." There is where I lose it. I understand how to use the LIKE syntax in mySQL statements, but not in this environment.

    Is it possible to set up a small battery of statements in the slave my.cnf along the lines of:

    replicate_ignore_table = .%

    Would that do it?

    Is anyone basically doing replication in a simple Master-Slave relationship where you are only replicating one DB? If so, how are you doing it?

    THANKS, folks!

  15. Restoring from a mySQLDump...

    Date: 01/28/09 (MySQL Communtiy)    Keywords: mysql, database, sql

    Folks, I'm having what I think is a weird problem restoring a DB from a mysqldump. What I'm trying to do is basically copy a DB from one mysql database server to another.

    The mysqldump command I used originally was:

    mysqldump --quick --add-locks --extended-insert -u root -p dbname > dbname.sql

    When this didn't work upon restoration I also tried:

    mysqldump --opt -u root -p dbname > dbname.sql

    Both these commands created the dbname.sql file with no problems or complaints.

    I copied the SQL file over to the target computer. I went into mySQL as root and did:

    create database dbname;
    use dbname;
    source dbname.sql;

    The import would start, but it wouldn't get very far. In the end, after not many seconds it would just...stop. Here is an example:

    Query OK, 8708 rows affected (0.11 sec)
    Records: 8708 Duplicates: 0 Warnings: 0

    Query OK, 8750 rows affected (0.12 sec)
    Records: 8750 Duplicates: 0 Warnings: 0

    Query OK, 8740 rows affected (0.11 sec)
    Records: 8740 Duplicates: 0 Warnings: 0

    Query OK, 8758 rows affected (0.11 sec)
    Records: 8758 Duplicates: 0 Warnings: 0

    Query OK, 8745 rows affected (0.12 sec)
    Records: 8745 Duplicates: 0 Warnings: 0

    And it would just stop here. I waited several minutes, and the load average of the machine went down to normal levels. The mySQLd stopped showing up on top.

    I'd then CNTRL-C the process and get:

    ^CQuery aborted by Ctrl+C
    ^CAborted
    mysql: 0 files and 1 streams is left open

    $

    I've done this a few times and the results have been consistent(ly bad). As I mentioned I also did two separate mysqldumps and both files failed to import the same way.

    While the import was happening I watched "top." There didn't seem to be a memory issue since the mysqld never used more than 0.3% of the memory, although it did use 96% of the CPU (which was fine).

    The mysqlds are running on the same operating system - Fedora 10 x_64. The only difference between them is the dump was done on mysql 5.0.27, and I am trying to source to a mysqld v5.0.67.

    Any thoughts?

  18. Rolling average

    Date: 10/28/08 (MySQL Communtiy)    Keywords: mysql, sql

    I have a table as below (Slightly truncated, but the idea is there)

    mysql> SELECT date, (sat0700 + sat0800 + sat0900 + sat1000) FROM alerts WHERE date LIKE '2008%' ORDER BY date ASC;

    +------------+-----------------------------------------+
    | date       | (sat0700 + sat0800 + sat0900 + sat1000) |
    +------------+-----------------------------------------+
    | 2008-09-13 |                                      39 |
    | 2008-09-20 |                                       0 |
    | 2008-09-27 |                                       9 |
    | 2008-10-04 |                                      16 |
    | 2008-10-11 |                                       9 |
    | 2008-10-18 |                                       4 |
    | 2008-10-25 |                                       1 |
    +------------+-----------------------------------------+

    I'd like to do some kind of select that adds a new column to the output for a rolling average

    So...

    mysql> SELECT date, (sat0700 + sat0800 + sat0900 + sat1000) AND SOMETHING ELSE FROM alerts WHERE date LIKE '2008%' ORDER BY date ASC;
    +------------+-----------------------------------------+---------+
    | date       | (sat0700 + sat0800 + sat0900 + sat1000) | average |
    +------------+-----------------------------------------+---------+
    | 2008-09-13 |                                      39 |       39|
    | 2008-09-20 |                                       0 |     19.5|
    | 2008-09-27 |                                       9 |       16|
    | 2008-10-04 |                                      16 |       16|
    | 2008-10-11 |                                       9 |     14.6|
    | 2008-10-18 |                                       4 |    12.83|
    | 2008-10-25 |                                       1 |    11.14|

  19. Weird problem with WHERE DATE(datetimefield)=something

    Date: 06/26/08 (MySQL Communtiy)    Keywords: mysql, database, sql

    I have two RHEL5 machines, both built & configured at the same time. Both have MySQL 5.0.45 installed and share an identical database.

    So - this query returns 334 on one machine, and 0 on the other:

    • SELECT COUNT(*) FROM mytable WHERE DATE(datetimefield) = '2008-05-05';

    I put that in red, since it seems to be where the problem is. The strange thing is that both machines returned 334 yesterday.

    If I change the query (on the supposed broken box) to this:

    • SELECT COUNT(*) FROM mytable WHERE datetimefield LIKE '2008-05-05%';

    I get 334.

    I realize there several ways of doing this, but I'm more interested in why, out of nowhere, MySQL decides not to allow WHERE DATE(datetimefield)=blah anymore.

    Ideas?
