1. Web Calendar Software...does this exist?

Date: 01/02/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: php, software, web, microsoft

Hi, I'm looking for some commercial software, more specifically, a calendar that can be hosted on a webserver, accessed and edited by multiple users, give the admin different control levels, and have a ton of room for customization. I'm doing web development for a non profit organization.

Here is the problem, everything that I've provided and shown my boss is either 1. not *pretty* or professional looking enough or 2. not what he needs (canned software that can't be customized enough to fit his organization's needs.

I've tried to tell him that other than having a small company develop the program entirely from scratch, there is not really anything else we can really do.

The closest thing I've come to his approval is the calendar available at http://www.mhsoftware.com, but he doesn't like the day view mode of the calendar.

I've told him instead of shelling out all kinds of cash for software to be developed specifically for him we instead could use certain elements of the calendar and the rest could be php scripts containing forms, tables, etc. Well he still has me looking so what I want to know is, has anyone seen a commercially available calendar application that can be hosted on the web and have a ton of room for customization?
Cost doesn't seem to be an issue either.

The example he gave me of what he wishes it to be like is his calender on...AOL. :(

The biggest problem is this is an exact copy of the email I get from this organizations office when I presented them with a letter similar to this.

"I THINK WE SHOULD GO WITH THE MICROSOFT - I FEEL SURE IT WOULD MEET OUR NEEDS FOR THE TIME BEING."

That was the email I got...wow. I'll call MS right up and have them get to work on the application...It's becoming a real problem trying to get them to understand anything.

Thanks for any help x-posted to a few other places.

  9. Easy Blog Builder Version 1.0

Date: 01/04/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: software, css, google

Hi all.. I've tried Google but I can't seem to find anything useful so I'm turning to you.

My company's server has a bunch of built in features, such as Easy Blog Builder Version 1.0 but their help files are anything but helpful.

I've never actually used this blog software before other than to find out it does indeed use css and yes I can modify it *L*

Basically I need to learn how to customize the crap out of this (if it is even possible). I would turn to something like WordPress or Blogger, but my boss would rather I try and get this working first.

If anybody has any links, or knows anything about this, it would be greatly appreciated!

  12. Massive Find & Replace (In Files) Via FTP?

Date: 01/05/07 (Web Development)    Keywords: software

For the first time in my life I'm doing site management via FTP. Is there a good freeware program (for the PC) that will let me find & replace a section of code in all files across multiple directories? It's either this or manually changing hundreds of files. If at all possible I'd like it to be a good general site management tool, but for today the find & replace feature is more important than the all-around software.

  18. Character problems

Date: 01/11/07 (MySQL Communtiy)    Keywords: mysql, software, database, sql, web

I am running MySQL 4.1.22 on Windows 2000, and I'm having problems with European characters.

When data is input through the software that uses it, European characters are converted into strange symbols that may or may not display properly in a web context. For instance É looks like É in the database, ü comes out as ü.

When I input the data through SQLyog, everything from the first European character to the end of the string is cut off.

I am using utf8_general_ci, which is how the software set up the database. What am I doing wrong, or what else should I be looking for?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

  19. Network & System Monitoring

Date: 01/11/07 (IT Professionals)    Keywords: software, linux

What's your favorite Network and System monitoring Software/Solution?

We're looking for something that will log snmp information from Network Devices, Provide an 'overview' of system and network status, and maybe even log the 'logs' from servers. Something that can help our small IT department track and manage around 20+ servers in 7 remote office locations, and give us a 'window' into not only problems and alerts that need to be brought to our attention, but also an overview of performance (basically SNMP data from switches and routers, aggregated over time).

Something open source would be nice, but if it's good, we'd be willing to spend some money--but not anything as costly as the huge enterprise-class solutions from IBM or HP...

We're mostly a Windows Server shop, but we have some CentOS and RedHat servers as well. I'd like to see something linux based, but would be willing to put something on Windows if it's better. If you have a linux-based solution, what OSs would you recommend? As I said we have some CentOS boxes now, but aren't sure whats 'cool' or recommended for servers these days.
