Note that this is just a sample of another part of the code.

Using this format, I need to know how I would get it so that either the ASP or VB knows that if there is something in the 2nd time field, that it can show something like:

90 minutes to 120 minutes

I can't use a "static" thing though, so I can't just always leave a "to" in there:

90 minutes to

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Disable Enter key posting back on ASP.Net web page

Date: 01/31/06     Keywords: asp, java, web

I have a web form I am working on and the testers have said that they think the Enter button should be fixed so that it does not submit the form. I looked up some information but many of them are random Javascript codes adn some of them TOTALLY disable the enter key in the form. Is there any way in the ASP.Net code itself that would just stop the Enter from posting back and not totally shutting it off? If it helps we all use IE6 here (and no I'm not thrilled by this fact.) thanks.

  • Repeaters in Tables

Date: 01/26/06     Keywords: html, database, asp, sql, web

Ok... Apparently I'm getting a brain cramp here..

I'm trying to get a repeater to work on an ASP.Net page in a table. For some reason even though I have an example copied DIRECTLY from a website I can't get the damn thing to work properly. I keep getting errors on the HTML side saying like, "Per the active schema, the element 'tr' cannot be nested within 'form'.", and "The active schema does not support the element 'ItemTemplate'.

And when the page is run, I get the error: 'DataItem' is not a member of 'System.Web.UI.Control'.

Here's part of the code. Its not 100% complete because this problem is preventing me from proceeding in testing.

    form id="Form1" method="post" runat="server">

    asp:Repeater id="parentRepeater" runat="server">

    HeaderTemplate>
    table>
    tr bgcolor="RosyBrown">
    th>
    %# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "infoName") %>
    /th>
    /tr>
    /HeaderTemplate>

    ItemTemplate>
    tr bgcolor="#ffcccc">
    td Performance Objectives/td>
    /tr>
    tr>
    td objectives/td>
    /tr>
    tr>
    td Intended Audience/td>
    /tr>
    tr>
    td> <%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "infoIntendAud") %> /td>

    3. Calendar/Grid Question

      Date: 03/01/06     Keywords: web

I've been assigned to work on a website that implements a calendar to display courses given on certain dates. Using a true Calendar control is out of the question. Basically they want it to look like this:

        January
3 9-9:30am ET Rocky Hill, CT Standard User Classroom

11-12 am ET Melbourne, FL Content Manager Webex
10 1-2 pm ET Melbourne, FL Outlook Basics Teleconference
16 11-12 am CT Boulder, CO Outlook Basics Classroom

        February
3 9-9:30am ET Rocky Hill, CT Standard User Classroom
11-12 am ET Melbourne, FL Content Manager Webex
10 1-2 pm ET Melbourne, FL Outlook Basics Teleconference
16 11-12 am CT Boulder, CO Outlook Basics Classroom

What I need is either a Datagrid or view or repeater that would be able to dynamically be able to organize the information like this.. where you have a month header and then below it all the dates of classes in that month will be displayed. I am using .NET 1.1 here so I don't have a DataGridView tool available. I'm just wondering how I should approach this. I know its a funky setup, but its what the customer wants. Thanks.

    4. Newbie...

Date: 03/01/06     Keywords: database, asp, web

Hi guys, I am new to asp, and frankly, it scares the hell out of me. I manage to muddle through for the most part, but I admit, I am floored by the following.

      I need a form.

Requirements of said form, are as follows:
      - Capture information (name, address, phone, email - the usual) where I can access it (database, email, whatever)
      - Redirect once information has been provided to a download link where they can access a paper

That's it. That's all. And being a bit clueless, I cannot figure this out.

ANY advice, directions to help/how-to, advice et al would be receieved with outrageous gratitude. Hearty scorning will also be weathered gracefully since I thoroughly deserve it.

The website in question is Galkal.com.au

      Thanks in desperate anticipation!

    5. Smartnavigation Question

      Date: 02/16/06     Keywords: java

I've designed a form that uses SmartNavigation and validation. I chose SmartNav because the site is on our intranet and we only use IE. Anyways I need to be able to navigate back to the top of the page if page.isvalid = false. Basically it needs to go back to the top of the page and display an error message in a little alert window. We had a method of doing it on another site, but its done in a weird hockney way using Javascript and input boxes and given how bad of a programmer this broad was who did it I have to believe that there's a better and more efficient way to do this, especially via SmartNavigation. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

    6. Customizing VS 2003.Net View

      Date: 02/14/06     Keywords: html, asp

I was wondering if there was a way to customize your view when you create ASP.Net pages where you can view the HTML Source and Design view both at the same time, like you can in Dreamweaver and Frontpage. I don't like having to switch back and forth between Design view and HTML view when I make changes. I didn't know if there was something built into VS or if there was an add-on that allowed this that anyone knew of. Thanks.

    7. Web Host Recommendation?

Date: 02/03/06     Keywords: php, mysql, database, asp, sql, web, google, apache

      Hey guys,

This is not an asp.net technical question, but I thought maybe someone here could help me out.

I need to switch web hosts. The one I have now has terrible customer service and thinks that it is normal to take the web server down for several hours every day, and not bother to tell their customers that they do so. I found them through Google and I don't want to try that again.

I've tried looking for recommendations elsewhere, but all the ones I've found have been for Apache web servers. I need an IIS web server that has: ASP.NET/ADO.NET and PHP4/5 supported, MySQL or SQL Server databases, along with the standard mail accounts, web statistics, ftp access, etc. It's just for a couple personal sites, so I don't need a lot of bandwith or space, just need reliable servers with little downtime and good customer service.

      Any recommendations?

    8. Transferring information amongst pop-ups

Date: 02/02/06     Keywords: browser, database, sql, web

Assuming you're not all sick of me yet, I have another question.
I have 2 web pages. On the main page there are links that are binded to a database. Clicking on those links will open up another window that has more details about that particular topic. On that detail page I want to add a button that will close that detail window, then have the main page WINDOW go to a page that only shows courses available on that topic. That information would be accessed via a SQL Query.

So for example (because I'm sure this is very confusing,) on the main page you click on a link to learn more about the Manager Training course. A window comes up showing all the information about the Manager training course. You then click on a button. That detail window closes, and the main page goes to another page that only shows all the Managers Training Courses. My main question is how I can tell the main page window to go to this other page and pass the information needed so that it can query the database and bind the correct information to it. I know this is very easy if everything is in the same browser window, but I don't know how you do it with multiple windows. Thanks.

    9. Formatting with Repeaters

      Date: 02/01/06     Keywords: database, asp

Ok I'm binding to a database using repeaters. I have 2 time fields in my database that show how long a course is, but those 2 fields aren't always used (ie 90-120 minutes or just 60 minutes.) I have the code set up like this:

    Summary

    <%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "infoSummary") %>

    -->

    The Code-Behind:
Dim sDSN As String = System.Configuration.ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings("DSN2")
    sCmd = "SELECT * FROM courseInfo WHERE infoID=" & queryID & ""
    Dim sReqID As String
iReturnCode = oDataAccess.ExecuteSqlStatement(sDSN, sCmd, dsCourses, sErrMsg)
    parentRepeater.DataSource = dsCourses.Tables(0)

    Page.DataBind()

The iReturnCode thing is part of a utility class that we use for Database queries.

I know the code here looks REALLY weird but LJ is being a bad word that rhymes with runt and is actually compiling the code that I'm posting. I don't know if thats good or bad, but all I Know is that its not running on my machine and I'm getting these complilation errors. The <'s and >'s were modified to get it to display, but I think you get the idea.
Any help would be appreciated. Am I just going insane? This seems like such a simple thing yet it just doesn't seem to want to work.

  • ASP.Net Hierarchical View

    Date: 01/23/06     Keywords: database

On the same project that I've asked questions about, now I need to try and figure out how to display some database information in a hierarchical-ish view. I need to write up a page that binds to a database information about various courses offered to sign up for. So it needs to look similar to this:

    Subject1

    Subject2

    etc

Like I said this needs to bind to a database, and the thing is that I'm not sure how to get this to work with a Datagrid. I don't want to just make a bunch of different Datagrids because that seems messy and not very efficient. Basically I need all the courses to be displayed under their respective subjects on this page, and they need to be able to have a link that would send the user to another page that has more detailed information on the subjects they want (basically a "more detail" page.) I tried looking at a true Hierarchical datagrid method, but it really seemed like more trouble than it was worth in the free versions I saw and I don't think my company will be very willing to try a 3rd party product and will instead decide that I'm just a shitty programmer. Any help/suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Dreamweaver to ASP.Net

Date: 01/23/06     Keywords: html, asp, java, web

So basically I've been assigned to write up a training sign-up web app for my company, and basically when we were working on it some static HTML versions were written up just for show and not for actual functionality. Thing is though that now I gotta use the exact same site design but now give it ASP.Net functionality. I know this sounds easy but I gotta deal with a site built with ALOT of Dreamweaver added code like non-editable tags (great goddamn idea that was,) and image swapping javascript. I don't want to have to rebuild this entire site from scratch, but I also don't want ot go and CONSTANTLY be making stupid design revisions to get it to look like the original page. Any ideas about this? Or is this really not as hard as it sounds?

  • SQL Server Question

Date: 01/18/06     Keywords: xml, database, asp, web

I'm working on an ASP.Net page that will need to take information from a database, but the information needs to be multi-line, like a numbered list. How would I either store that or display that properly on the web page? Basically part of the output needs to look like this:

    Performance Objectives
    Participant will be able to:
    1. Explain the value of standardizing and institutionalizing performance management across all of X
    2. Describe the characteristics of a strong performance management culture
    3. Explain how to use the tools and processes that will enable differentiation
    4. Explain pay for performance and base salary administration

Any suggestions would be useful. I'm not sure how to integrate XML with this since this is so database driven. Thanks.

below is the code to run my searcg stored procudure i need
to find a way to add in the variable TotalRecordCount into
the dgResultset dataset so i can call it into the datalist
that corrosponds to dgResultset. If there is an easier way
of doing it i'd be interested.

    Cheers

' Runs the search in the DB for the relevant result
