I'm hoping someone in this community may be able to help me. I cannot uninstall a program.
This program has made it so I can't access websites and will shut down my browser instead. I have ran my antivirus program and my spware program without any luck. Basically, I just want this thing off my computer.
Does anyone know if there's a way to export your mozilla (or firefox) preferences and extensions, similar to the way you can export adblock filters? I know there's a way to copy your preferences from one computer to another regarding the browser, but it'd be nice if there was a handy "packaged" way to do so (I'm trying to setup profiles on mac/linux with the browsers configured the same but it's taking damn near forever). Is there an extension or anything that can handle this? Or am I just being far too lazy? hehe
And if I'm being far too lazy, and someone explain how/where/which files I should be copying in the preferences to make everything the same?
I have a few computer problems. If you can’t help me with all of them, that’s understandable. If you could just answer any of the questions, I’d really appreciate it.
1) Tweak will let me set special folders but warns me about moving them. I'm assuming that this is really just a standard warning as I've moved the folders a few days ago and they all seem pretty harmless. (Including the Start Menu which I previously asked here and had a round robin suggestion. Anyways) Is it mostly harmless re-setting folder locations using programs like Tweak and/or TuneUP Utilities?
2) I need to remove something off of "File" menu when you open a folder. It's driving me nuts. Well, I wouldn't mind if I could re-set the hot alt key. Does anyone know a program that controls what items appear on a folder’s File menu? Does anyone know a program that allows you to set “alt” letters?
3) On Tuesday I downloaded Itunes. Ever since, the mp3s on my winamp playlist have gotten quieter and I don't know why that is. The wma’s play at normal volume on winamp but I have to turn up the volume way up to listen to any mp3. (almost like a throwback to my 2003 speaker problem.) As my playlist is a mix of both, I find myself constantly adjusing the songs. Does anyone know of software that checks what went wrong? I’ve already been in control panel sound and even system; all the drivers check out.
4) a - I guess it goes without asking that if I have an old win 95 deluxe edition of Norton, there's no way I could successfully install it and get live update to work, right? I'll just have to purchase a new version, right?
b - so, in saying that, what version of Norton includes crash guard and first aid. I love first aid. I've never had to do it but I love the idea checking everyday system functions.
5) Start menu is driving me nucking futs. It keeps hiding programs i haven't used. i hate hate hate this. so i believe i turned this function off yesterday. I thought it was TuneUp but I guess not. How can I turn this function off.
6) Tweak doesn't work when trying to prevent IE from stealing focus. I asked this question last month when i was still using win 98. I knew I'd be upgrading soon so I didn't fuss when the advice didn't do anything to help. Now I'm using win mx, i've installed tweak and yet again, it does nothing to prevent IE from stealing focus. Can anyone recommend another program that can help?
7) a - Internet Explorer has gone weird. I can't load lj userinfo pages correctly on the 3rd or 4th attempt. example, i open ie on my userinfo page and it loads properly. So whenever I say "new window" by doing ctrl n, instead of getting the "journal" menus at the top, i get < ************ > with the menus at the bottom. If i'm at download.com and i'm looking at my search results, i'll click on "by user rating". if at any point during this specific action i hit alt + tab to switch screens, ie crashes. no joke. so i have to sit and wait patiently while my slow 28kb connection loads that page. Has anyone else using XP experienced a similar problem? Is there an older version of IE that you think is better?
b - In addition, IE will sometimes automatically open a new window directing to a non-existing website: http://www.turbotones.net/uk/index.php . I will have hit ctrl + n ONCE (i don't do things twice) and my google search will have opened in a new window (whatever I was previously searching). After a few seconds, that page will open. I've searched all text in all files "word or phrase in the file" for "turbotones" to see who on my pc is asking to pop up to this page and this yielded no results. Can anyone help?
NOTE Please don't give me advice like "don't use IE" because that's not advice; that's just annoying. It's like saying "you shouldn't use automatic, you should use a stick shift" (or vice versa). Each browser has its own quirks and I've already gotten used to IE. In addition, I use IE at work, therefore I can mirror whatever I'm doing at work with what I'm doing at home.
8) I want to remove "Local Area Network" from the system tray. There used to be a great program. I think it was simply sys_tray manager from a few years back. Does anyone have a copy? I also want to get rid of quicktime. I've uninstalled it but it's still lurking about. It's also in my system tray and it's annoying! Can anyone recommend a good, fast, free system tray manager program?
9) Speaking of annoying, XP has reset the Page down/page up function to skip down/up "x" lines when using a drop down menu. I want to reset this figure. Does anyone know how?
10) I have an old excel spreadsheet that i've opened. I've already said that the columns should be mm.dd.yy. for whatever reason (well, i'm based in the uk now not the us) excel has decided that despite my previously setting the column properties, it should be dd.mm.yy (the uk format) What other automatic changes should I look forward to (gulp) ? btw, language changes (example, us to uk) are easy to find in word. does anyone know where I can find it in excel?
11) The last problem is quite generic. I have a few USB ports in the back that are working fine, but the ones in the front are fucked. I found under system, there's "code 28" error. I've searched for the drivers online but they are all no good. Initially when putting this PC together last Sat, it said something like "service pack #" with a link. Fair enough, I though. I didn't have a modem on me then so I couldn't connect my pc to the link. I just assumed that I'd get the link again. Well, I just made an ass out of me and me because lo and behold, I'm here trying to install the driver for the umpteeth time. Doesn't make a difference to me personally cause I have four in the back in working condition. The ports came with the tower and I don’t have a disk for the tower. Now I'm hoping someone out there has a link to driver installation file. I was hoping this would help. But I guess not.
12) I have to keep an eye on my hard drive temperature. I have 3 fans so hopefully it'll always be all good, but if not, what's a bad temp? currently, it's at 33.
Thanking you all in advance. Please let me know if you need further information!!!
"The page you are trying to view contains POSTDATA that has expired from cache. If you resend the data, any action the form carried out (such as a search or online purchase) will be repeated. To resend the data, click OK. Otherwise click cancel."
dialogue boxes that are forever appearing when I click the "Back" button. I know the page I'm trying to view contains POSTDATA. I don't need the friggin' browser telling me so. I want to go back to the page immediately before the one I'm on, and I don't want to click "Yes, I really, actually, honest-to-grapefruit mean it" every time, nor do I want to do silly dances where I go back three pages then forward two. Is there some way of telling the browser "Never ask this, just always assume I'm behaving deliberately"?
I'm writing an application which involves the download of files. These files could be of any file, and must be downloaded as an attachment, rather than displayed in the browser.
Firefox handles this in exactly the way I would expect. IE throws up an error: "Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."
What am I doing wrong (obvious MS jokes aside) that Firefox would work and IE would not?
Long story short, I took a data structures course, and decided to practice my new skills this summer by designing an HTML RPG.
I'm close to the point to designing the actual interface - player / item objects are all done. Currently I have no idea what kind of interface it will be, though it will probably end up like Magic Candle (so very old... but picture a top-down interface without the fancy graphics). Obviously, the user will move their character either via links or form buttons.
Say the character dies when they fall into a trap. What is to stop them from using their browser's history to go back and take a different path? Or, say they gain 1 hit point when they level - what's to stop them from going back and hoping for a 10?
Is it even possible to restrict this sort of browser-history thing? I know this works in Firefox atleast:
from home.php, follow a link to page.php
on page.php, click a link to work.php
work.php only modifies data, then gives a header->location to page.php
on page.php, click a link to home.php
home.php loads in history
The history in Firefox shows up home->page->home, so steps 3 and 4 aren't recorded. Is this true for all browsers?
Any other ways of doing this besides header: location?
Now, I used to use Thunderbird for my RSS and ATOM feeds, until I discovered SAGE. I switched mainly because I like how SAGE operates inside my browser- even though I still use Thunderbird for other reasons.
I was curious though, what does everybody else here use to manage their RSS/ATOM feeds? Or maybe some of you don't even use news feeds, if so why not- maybe you haven't found a good enough aggregator yet?
A picture speaks better then thousand words. As far as technologists are concerned Firefox browser is a clear winner by a wide margin with 49% of the market share. Overall Mozilla group has 57% of the market share.
Note: This statistics are from my website. It averages around 120, 000 page impressions per month [...]
i'm sorry, my mistake. i had an input with the name "action" and it was confusing the browser. if you ever run into a problem like this, check your s names ;)
Hya!
I'm working on a feature for my website that needs me to change a form action with javascript. It's actually pretty easy to achieve this with Firefox, but not in IE. Since i'm not turning my back on IE, eventhough i hate the browser, i really wanted to get this thing to work cross-browser.. for the user's sake. ;)
Is it possible?
an example, working on firefox
function preview( id ) {
// get form element
var frm_obj = window.document.getElementById( id );
// open window
var w = window.open( "loading.html", "preview", "width=500,height=350,scrollbars=yes" );
// change form attributes
frm_obj.target = "preview";
frm_obj.action = "preview.php";
// hey ho, let's go!
frm_obj.submit();
// bring window up (could be open already)
w.focus();
}
oh, and i've tried using setAttribute as well. no results.
Someone on my AIM buddy list got a virus that is sending itself in link form to people on her buddy list, including me. When I clicked on the link, my AVG and firewall both claimed to have protected me from it, and did not allow it to open. But, now when I try to open my web browser on that computer (my laptop), I get re-directed to what looks like some sort of fake AIM page that says it cannot load correctly or some BS. And when I try to go to any other site, it tells me the page cannot be displayed (I am using my desktop computer to post this, as I can't get to any webpages on that one). HELP! Please!
Also, I've just discovered that I can't connect to AIM on that computer now either. It stays stuck on the "connecting" stage and doesn't move. So I have removed my browser (firefox), but the default browser (IE) does the same thing. Also, I have removed AIM.
Ok, I have a problem. I posted about this in some comments in this community... but, just in case some of you didn't see it in that post, I'm going to post it here too. I'll put it under a cut.
The following is the code I used in my Angelfire site for a .css file. It works perfectly in IE but not in FireFox. In FireFox the fonts still load how they're supposed to but the background information doesn't load. What am I doing wrong? Oh, and I did verify that it's pointing in the right direction. What I mean by that is... the file that I'm telling it to load for the background exists in the specified location. Here's a textarea with the code, I don't know how else to post it.
Since downloading firefox, I have changed my Angelfire site and amberkaye.com site to include the css information in the header of each .htm file... which makes sure it loads correctly in both browsers. So neither site points to this .css file anymore.
Here's an obscure one. I'm looking for a web page where you can submit an URL and which returns the source code of that web page. There's http://www.wannabrowser.com but I want to be able to bookmark the results. Actually, I want to be able to ChangeNotes the results but the needs are the same - I don't mind having to build query strings myself.
Essentially, what I'm trying to set up here is an alert for when a site's source code changes. Any ideas?
Just bumped my pc, causing it to reset and now Firefox is dead. Everytime I try to open it I get the following message "The procedure entry point ??_7nsAutoString@@6B@ ccould not be located in the dynamic link library xpcom.dll" . The browser opens but I can't see the pages.
OK< I think this should be really easy to do, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it. I have a bunch of icons, and I want the web browser (firefox) to pop up the alt tag of the images as a tooltip. Is there some magic I need to do to make that work.
