  5. image galleries

Date: 10/16/07 (PHP Community)    Keywords: mysql, database, sql, web

    hi all!

I'm in need of an image gallery script, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? I've been browsing around and testing a few and can't quite find one that matches what i need.

i need to be able to upload the photos via the website, for thumbnails to be created and then clicking on the thumbnail takes you to the full size image.

However, all the scripts i've found, when making the thumbnails, make them square, where as i'd prefer it to be more dynamic. So say each thumbnail had a height of 90px, and the width was determined from the full size image, rather than being fixed to 90px aswell. That way when displayed on the page, tall images don't look squashed.

Any scripts out there like that? I don't mind if it is linked to a mysql database or not, tho most don't seem to be.

Ideally it would be seperated into admin area and display area, so that i can customize the look of the displayed photo pages.

Date: 10/18/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: database, web

I have no idea what the "official" name is of what I want to do.

I'm looking for the best (and easy) way to create a login (database?) system for a website. Basically a form that someone fills out (email addy, login name, password) to register.

I feel like such a moron, but anyone know of any great resources on-line or books that can explain how to do this?

Date: 10/25/07 (C Sharp)    Keywords: database, microsoft

I work in a project, where we need to do tons of validations. The problem is, that hard coding would take weeks. So we thought about using short scripts, which we could store in a database. Using a search engine, I found, that there's an API to the JScript and VBScript engine in the .net framework (Microsoft.Vsa, Microsoft.JScript.Vsa and Microsoft.VisualBasic.Vsa). But when I looked in the class library reference, there was a "obsolete" mark on all three namespaces.

Does anyone know an open source scripting engine we could use? Or does someone know a way to solve our problem?

  11. Data Modeler program to use

Date: 11/02/07 (SQL Server)    Keywords: database, sql

Does anyone know a decent freeware for data modeling from SQL Server database? Like ERWin Data Modeler but free. I don't need one that's on steroids, just something that will allow me to pull data models from existing tables in SQL Server 2000/2005 and Oracle.

If I'm asking too much for a freebie, can anyone suggest a good one as alternative to ERWin? I'm curious to see what people are using. We're looking for one that's cheaper in cost than ERWin.

    Thanks!

Date: 11/06/07 (SQL Server)    Keywords: database, sql

I need to produce a report with cummulative stats each each month & year in the database.

The data is stored as follows:

    11/05/2007 Dave FXR1200
    11/05/2007 Frank FXR1200
    10/31/2007 Tom Fatboy
    10/30/2007 Dave Fatboy
    10/30/2007 Paul TZ250

I need to produce a report that shows:

    November 2007 2
    October 2007 3

My SQL is poor (hence my post). The only query I can come up with is the one below that produces yearly stats.

SELECT year(logdate) as LogMonth, COUNT(id) AS Prospects
    FROM calllogs
    GROUP BY year(logdate)
    order by year(logdate) asc

Can anyone suggest the approach I need to produce the correct stats ?

I'm 99.9% sure the problem is opnmjgf.dll, which pops up in both O2 and O20. Unfortunately, no matter what I do, including flagging it to delete on reboot in HT, it keeps coming back, and I've no idea how to get it to go away permanently. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  16. Fixing type rags on the web

Date: 11/13/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: browser, css, database, web

I'm currently having an argument debate at work whether it's worthwhile to nitpickingly fix uneven type rags on the web (in a fixed-width div) via line breaks, forced justification, adding spaces, changing type sizes, changing word and letter spacing with CSS (sometimes on individual lines and words), changing the size of the box, etc. much the way one would do on a print piece. My argument is that type renders with slight differences across browsers and platforms, and that trying to manipulate it so precisely is not only insanely time consuming and has to be re-done with every new page -and- every copy change change, it may not look precisely the same across different browsers and different default fonts, or even if people increase type sizes above the default, and if the type doesn't render exactly the way it does on our screens, micro-adjustments may cause even more awkward rags or spacing.

For a large, dynamic, database-driven site, of course this would be even harder, but we're working on it for our small, static corporate site of maybe 10-20 pages that we don't expect to be updated every time. My argument is that it'll end up being a lot of time spent on something that may not work everywhere or backfire, but I'm being outvoted. I would really appreciate any experience or advice dealing with this issue, aside from making the whole thing an image or a Flash file.

I'm posting this in both '[info]'webdesign and '[info]'graphicdesign since it's both aesthetic and technical.
