Compaq Armada 1592DT BIOS
Date: 03/19/05
(Computer Geeks) Keywords: google
Hi fellow computer geeks.
This is something I have googled (yes, happy?) and have not found an answer for.
My father gave me a Compaq Armada 1592DT laptop so I could clean some of the junk off of it. I can't seem to get into the BIOS though. I pressed the Del button (as is the case with most BIOS's) but it ignores it and continues loading.
Anyone know how to access the BIOS from this particular brand of laptop? I know it has a BIOS, otherwise the danm thing wouldn't have even loaded in the first place.
Please help me if you can!
Cheers,
-- Tom.

Why I discourage embedding date in URL’s (including WordPress Permalinks and also other CMS)
Date: 03/20/05
(Java Web) Keywords: browser, google
The reasons I discourage date's in a permalink are: It is redundant information as date is already part of the post information and need not be additionally within the url. Search engines like google, which gives importance to words in URL's will be poisoned by url's with date embedded. Most browsers display a [...]

Missing Functions
Date: 03/20/05
(PHP Community) Keywords: php, xml, web, google
I'm trying to use the DOM functions to play with some XML, but it seems as though my server PHP version doesn't include them.
I do have access to the webhost manager type deal, but didn't see anything pertaining to PHP in it really. I've also looked through php.net, google, and the documentation, but saw nothing related to remote installation or additions. So either it's like I said, the server version being outdated, or I'm doing something else wrong.
Would I be able to configure the remote server to include new PHP functionality, or is there some other way I don't know of to use the functions?
Server is using PHP 4.3.10.
Any help appreciated.

JavaScript Mouse Position Mozilla Firefox
Date: 03/22/05
(Mozilla) Keywords: java, google
I seem to be having trouble finding a working answer on any of the pages I've found using google. Let's say I've got a javascript function bob(). when the is clicked, I want the function bob() to alert the current x and y of the mouse. It works on IE as alert(event.x) and alert(event.y), but it doesn't work in Mozilla Firefox as any of the functions that I've been given. For example, e.clientX or e.pageX do nothing for me. What's the javascript code to return the mouse positions in Firefox?

Jpeg's

(Microsoft Windows) Keywords: google
Hello Everyone
I have a question about Jpeg's.
Has anyone ever come across a situation where the "pre-view" picture and the actually picture are out of whack? I have read something about this in a journal on LJ but have lost it. I've looked around with google but that hasn't shed any light. To see what I mean download this picture http://www.mickygee.com/tracks_2.jpg. If you use windows explorer and are viewing "thumbnails" you'll see the original picture thats in colour but when you click to open it you get the black and white version! I'm using windows XP by the way.

Selling PDFs
Date: 03/29/05
(Web Development) Keywords: php, security, google, shopping
I've got a client who wants to sell prepared legal forms online in PDF format. I have a site model in PHP, an extremely simple shopping cart through PayPal, and Acrobat 5 professional. I've never done it before, and I'd really not like to go into this blind. Google hasn't pulled up anything in the way of specific tutorials. There are only three relatively small files that need to be sold.
It'd be easy enough to, say, redirect the user upon payment or e-mail the link to a document, but this also necessitates changing the link to the document with every download so it doesn't get shared. I know PHP has PDF generation and temp file capacities, but I've never worked with them. We were also looking into PDF security, but I also have no experience with this.
Anyway, I'd like any tips you might have on the matter.

Stupid Question
Date: 04/10/05
(Computer Geeks) Keywords: spyware, microsoft, google
I'm dealing with yet another machine for The Charity. This one has been *royally* pwnz0rzed by a variety of scumware, such that it becomes unusable if you connect to the Internet. It's quite possibly the worst machine of the lot, in terms of quantity of crap. 350 Spybot hits, and 950 Adaware hits, plus about 40 CounterSpy hits, and still it's almost saturating my 4.5Mbit connection and using 90%+ of CPU.
Is there somewhere I can download some kind of Windows Update monolith that I can burn to CD(s) and install that way? I'd spend the evening trudging around the various Microsoft sites, but frankly I've got better things to do, and there's more than a slim chance one of you guys has been in this boat. I do not trust Google results for Windows Update, any more than I'd trust them for Spyware Removal or Free Porn.
Thanks,

deleting history

(Computer Help) Keywords: yahoo, google
You know when you type in google.com to search for something? And in the text box, sometimes a list drops down showing all of the other things you've typed in. How do I get rid of this?
Another example is when you put in your e-mail address at yahoo.com to sign in. It remembers it (not the password), but I don't want it to remember my e-mail address anyway (@_@;
On Internet Explorer, I went to Tools, Internet Options, and Clear History but it doesn't do it.
