Yesterday, my roomy's 'puter kept freezing up. AVG found 2 viruses but it closed out and she didn't know what they were or where they went.
I attempted to run Ad-Aware but everytime it starts running, the computer restarts. So, I deleted all of the programs in the Control Panel that she didn't need, deleted the cookies, deleted all of the internet files she didn't need, restarted, and the computer seemed to work fine.
However, today she said "Win32reg.exe" keeps popping up a screen. I had already installed Google's Toolbar and so that is the same pop up blocker she uses. I ran Hijack This and got this:

I'm working on a site design using a good deal of DHTML and have run into a snag. I'm trying to detect where the user's mouse is, but I can't for the life of me get the correct position. I'm using the mouse detection script from quirksmode, but instead of giving me a position anywhere near the mouse (which in the case of what I was attempting to detect would of been somewhere in the neighbourhood of 100,350), but instead thinking my mouse is down outside of the page view somewhere around 560X. (Just in case it makes a difference, I have part of the page pulled in with a php require() ).
tooltip.js
function inittooltip(target) { tltp = new getObj(target); tltp.obj.onmouseover = showtooltip; tltp.obj.onmouseout = stoptooltip; }
function showtooltip(e) { var isOpera = (navigator.userAgent.indexOf('Opera') != -1); var isIE = (!isOpera && navigator.userAgent.indexOf('MSIE') != -1)
var posx = 0; var posy = 0; var targ;
if (!e) var e = window.event; if (e.pageX || e.pageY) { posx = e.pageX; posy = e.pageY; }else if (e.clientX || e.clientY) { posx = e.clientX; posy = e.clientY; if (isIE) { posx += document.body.scrollLeft; posy += document.body.scrollTop; } }
if (e.target) targ = e.target; else if (e.srcElement) targ = e.srcElement;
function getObjNN4(obj,name) { var x = obj.layers; var thereturn; for (var i=0;i { if (x[i].id == name) thereturn = x[i]; else if (x[i].layers.length) var tmp = getObjNN4(x[i],name); if (tmp) thereturn = tmp; } return thereturn; }
In the process of massaging my site into XHTML 1.0 Strict W3C compliance, I started noticing weird problems in Internet Explorer. Yeah, yeah, I know, big surprise -- but these are screen-redraw problems, so I wondered if they were related to the fact that my only access to Windows is through VirtualPC on a Mac. I'd dismiss it as a corrupted install of VPC, but my site is the only one I have this problem with.
So, I'm here to ask for reports on how it displays on your non-VPC installs of Internet Explorer. Usually what happens is that the dark borders (on either side of the light-colored content area) display erratically. Either they show up at first, but disappear when you scroll the window, or they're not there at first, and then appear when you scroll, or a combination of the two.
Worse things also happen, but only rarely. Sometimes the light-colored background doesn't render, and the green shows through. Sometimes the background is there until you select some text, then the green shows through. Sometimes things get really wacky, and the content on the page disappears, but you can still click the (invisible) links if you know where they are. - This part's resolved.
If you're a Windows or Linux user (the former especially), and you ever need to do a bit of surfing on a particularly shady website, and you want to protect your PC from any nasty spyware or other malicious code that might be present, the usual tactic is to rummage around for hardware, build a sacrificial system, install an operating system and applications, add it to your LAN, and get to the site in question.
Instead, try the VMware Browser Appliance. It's a self-contained copy of Firefox (running on Ubuntu Linux, but that's largely irrelevant -- Firefox is Firefox, from a user standpoint) that runs as "virtual machine" on your computer. When it runs, it runs inside its own window, not just on screen, but in memory, and the hard drive. It's completely boxed in: nothing you load can get to your other applications, or your hard drive, or onto your computer in any way other than inside that pre-defined box. It makes a great environment for testing website design, or testing a web application you're writing, or investigating a potential virus site, or anything else that you would be more comfortable not using your main PC for. You can configure it to either wipe itself completely clean every time you use it, or to retain the settings (bookmarks, cookies, etc) between uses.

Found a feature in the TP2 that I really like. When you view source, it opens the source in a new browser window, changes the color of the HTML (etc) tags so it's different from normal text, making it very easy to edit! =D
Very cool, imo! =D Anyone else notice this and use it?
I recently started a new a job. I am working on a site that I started before starting the job. My mentor has suggested a different directory structure that what I am using.
Functions contains all the PHP functions for the site.
Currently I am using this:
(d)root
(d)css
(d)functions
(d)graphics
(d)images
(d)javascript
all my site(html, php) files including administration and config files.
He suggested that I move the site files to their own HTML directory and to seperate the admin from the user files. So I figure something like this:
In addition to running a web design firm, I also own a Classic Rock station. I've got a neat feature called "The 8 Track Player" which shows whats playing as well as the last 7 songs. This is a stand alone browser window that the visitor to the site opens.
This will also open inside Windows media player if a visitor chooses to listen to the station with that software (the station runs shoutcast natively).
until a week or so ago, the refresh code that I have was working fine in both stand-alone and Windows Media Player (WMP) but now the WMP does not refresh yet the stand-alone does.
Both stand alone and WMP use the same code, and there's not been any changes to the code.
The refresh method I am using is:
My theory is that MS has with a security update with Windows XP or WMP 10 changed something that does not allow the VB or Meta to work.
a) does anyone know something about this problem?
b) is there a good place to ask this in-depth question? Have posted on microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player.web already.
c) do you think my meta tag or vbscript have an error in it that was working before in WMP with HTMLView until a tightening of code control was implemented?
Does anyone know how to modify the line height (overlapping texts) with html but not css? I need it for certain places, and not the entire page. I did it once, but the hackers deleted my file on my webpage so I can't find it anymore. Thank you in advance.

Hi guys, I'm having some CSS issues. I have a menu built with nested lists and styled with css, which worked fine. Now when I try to use that menu within my css-based layout page, the menus popouts seem to be stuck against the next div (not letting the mouse move across to them without disappearing).
I'm in a bit of a pickle because I'm supposed to have something to show my client by Friday, can anyone help?
see the menu not working here . If you fumble around with it long enough you can make it sort of work, but too iffy.
I know there is a lot of code here, but I think it may be something in the CSS/page layout part, not the actual menu, but I could be wrong.
A client of mine has requested an html email template to be used in Outlook. I'm almost positive this can be done, because I used to do them for clients at my last workplace. Problem is I never actually did the set up portion in Outlook.
I use Thunderbird so I can't really mess around with it that way, and google has failed me. I seem to only find how-to's on inserting a single picture or link. Rar.
Okay, there's my problem. Does anybody here know a link to a tutorial or can explain to me how you can set a template from a pre-existing html document?
Thats why I have searched for people who could help me, just like yourselves, this is my friends jorunal Im helping him pimp out his shit because the stock layout was just embarassing, I couldnt let him live with it. Now my problems extend to these: he needs comment links (his layout is in html code and I suck at customizing journals, especially with a language i dont understand), AND these images for these specific jobs, Subject line, Sidebar Head
Hey everyone, I'm new to the whole HTML coding thing. I'm taking a class right now and we are to make a simple webpage with html tags. I pretty much finished but I have one problem. On one of my pages I am having trouble with the text fading into the background image. So I was wondering if there is a code or something to put a background on the text so it stops doing that, or somehow highlight the text. Thanks in advance for any help.
I work for a publishing company doing custom media and have gotten away from freelance work for awhile now. I'm getting back into it, and was curious if anyone had any basic rate plans you use to charge.
My skills are fairly solid and can design an HTML or Flash page depending on the client. Any help whatsoever is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.
I am trying to set up absolute bookmarks so that I can switch back and forth from different servers in the Travian game without needing a new set of bookmarks for each server. But every time I try to set a bookmark for /spieler.php?s=4 or /dorf2.php, Firefox inserts http:// to the beginning of the URL. This happens after I set the bookmark, so when I go back and delete the protocol text from the bookmark, as soon as I hit 'OK' it is again saved with http:// prefixing it. I tried to manually change it in the bookmarks.html file, but when I reset the browser to let the change show, the bookmarks.html file went back to its original state. When that failed to work, I went back and changed the bookmarks.bak file as well as bookmarks.html. But, again, when I reset Firefox each file was reset to its previous state.
Is there a way to turn this off or get around it? I would appreciate any words of advice, and I thank you for at least taking the time to read this far. (And before I forget, I'm running Firefox 1.5.0.1 on a Windows 98SE platform.)
