with no content will, on most browsers, merely add a 1-pixel space (and on some, or even with a width=0 and height=0 result in no discernable change to the layout).

That's what I'm trying to codify. Anyone know of such a list? Failing that, care to rattle off a bunch off the top of your head? I suspect if I can get about 25 to 30 equalities, that will suffice for my project.

Many thanks in advance!

    So, about a year ago I got really into HTML and all that, I could make websites.. now.. I forget.. everything.

    I'm making a blog (for knitting purposes) here.

    Now, because I got a new template, all the regular blogger stuff is gone ;___;

    I don't know how to get the archivey deal back the regular way, or where I can list my WIPs, or FOs (knitting jargon - they're on EVERY knitting blog.. it's quite important).

  • View Source of Flash

    Date: 01/01/70 (Webmaster View)    Keywords: html, web

    If you use Flash, and want to share your work, you can now easily add a view source menu item to allow downloading the source code.

    Usage :

    Place the viewFlashSource.as file in the same directory as your Flash source file (FLA), and add the following line to the main timeline of your source file:

    #include viewFlashSource.as

    You can then specify the source URL through the flashParams HTML tag / attribute.

    There are two values you can specify:

    flashSource : Points to a URL to download the source for the contnet.
    contentLicense : Points to the distribution / re-use license for the content.

      For some strange reason my Lj HTML coding isn’t working, it looks right and correctly coded example ..

       Wont come up as a name tag, nor are my cut’s working. Another example.

      I’ve asked this question at another community but I don’t think its HTML misspellings, being that when I tried to copy and past my overrides all that would show are both global head words eg

      GLOBAL_HEAD<=

      <=GLOBAL_HEAD
      (That’s all that will show up)

      Even when I Alt +A select all.

      Any ideas what may be wrong?

      EDIT: i've used both Avast and Adware, and i am clean. if that helps.

    5. editor/browser thing

      Date: 04/02/05 (Computer Geeks)    Keywords: browser, html, linux

      Hi. I wonder if someone could tell me what applications exist for a(n un)certain set of uses. I dig through shareware now and then, but maybe I've missed it and maybe the right tools cost a bit of money.

      I want a program that:

      1. Edits Text. Don't care that much about formatting. (if it does markup text, I'd prefer it to store as HTML)

      2. has a file browser docked into the application. I'd really like this to be navigable with simple arrow keys in Lynx style (which might not have saved Lynx, but it's Midnight Commander's best feature).

      3. runs quickly on older machines. The features I'm listing aren't very heavy.

      4. has mouse functionality to the extreme. Mouse gestures would be ideal. Have the wheel do something intelligent at the very least.

      5. can quickly go through the files in a directory. Next file/prev file buttons.

      So it's more useful as a browser/viewer than an editor, but can do both. I'd listen to a solution or partial solution regardless of the operating system, though Windows and Linux are what I use.

      And I've tailored something in VB6 that does this much, plus it's a pretty handy picture viewer. It works alright, but I'd like to know what else exists. I can make an installer available if anyone else has had similar frustrations.

I know that not all the links work, and depending on your monitor size there may be some cut off at the bottom or just extra space, etc., those are things I can fix anytime, right now I'm just looking for opinions on design and functionality.

      Date: 04/05/05 (WebDesign)    Keywords: html, web, seo

      I'm trying to use a marquee in a header on my LiveJournal that will stop when the viewer's mouse hovers over it. I've seen this done as news or headline tickers on websites. (Note: I do not want the marquee tag that has the text stop to one side... I want the text to marquee as usual, only stopping on a mouseover.)

      I used the following code:

      but it looks like this when I use it:

      Hover your mouse over this to make it stop!

      The text doesn't stop moving as I have commanded it to in the tag. I've been to many HTML websites to see if I'm doing anything wrong, but I can't see any difference between my code and theirs.

      I'm able to view this kind of marquee perfectly on other sites, stopping the text on mouseover and everything... is it just a LJ incompatibilty? Please help me!

      Thanks in advance.

    13. Alright...

      Date: 04/07/05 (WebDesign)    Keywords: browser, html, asp

      I've got a small question. I know I should know the answer to this, but dern if I can't figure it out.

      I've got an ASP.NET page written with C# (code located at http://images.julisana.com/ellie/index.aspx.txt You will have to save it to view the code, otherwise the browser tries to render it and fails miserably) with a form that is supposed to: send an e-mail upon submission. The action element of the form is set to go to submit.aspx (code located at http://images.julisana.com/ellie/submit.aspx.txt Same rules apply for this one too). So, what I want to know is, why will it send the e-mail, but not continue to the next page. Do I need to add a call to my C# scripting that tells it to go to submit.aspx, despite the fact that the action element is set to that? Or what?

      Thanks much!

      Update: Response.Redirect("pagename.html"); was the command I was looking for.

    14. Calling all IE quirks experts and CSS gurus...

      Date: 04/07/05 (WebDesign)    Keywords: browser, css, html

      Got myself a bit of a problem, and it's had the whole office banging our heads on the desk in frustration.

      No matter what we do, we can't make Internet Explorer honour our requests to clear the boxes. If you take a look in Firefox or another CSS compliant browser, it does precisely what it's supposed to - after one box finishes on one side, the next box appears on the other side, as both have clear: left / clear: right (as appropriate), and the text flows straight down the middle, moving where it's supposed to. However, no matter what we do, IE completely ignores the clears, and slaps them next to each other. Suffice to say it's getting rather annoying!

      Anyone got any ideas / workarounds for IE being crap? We've been crawling the 'net to no avail on this one.

    15. PHP, mod_rewrite and header() - This is a good one.

      Date: 04/08/05 (PHP Community)    Keywords: php, browser, css, html, web, apache

      I'm trying to use mod_rewrite to intercept all requests made to my web server and route them to a php file (index.php) which then parses the request and does what it can to serve the appropriate page. I'm doing this in an effort to use meaningful URLS as opposed to query strings.

      I have everything about half-working but I can't send headers from index.php, which is important because not only do I need to be able to generate 404 errors, but the files that will be included by index.php need to set their own headers (content-type, content-language).

      These are the lines I'm using in .htaccess for mod_rewrite:

      RewriteEngine on
      RewriteRule index.php$ - [L]
      RewriteRule !\.(jpg|gif|css)$ /index.php [L]

      And this is the code I'm using in index.php that's causing a problem:
      if ($url_array[0] == 'poems') { // POEMS SUBDIRECTORY
      	require('lists.php'); // GET LISTS
      	$get = 'poems';
      	if (array_search($url_array[1], $poem_list)) {
      		$which = $url_array[1];
      		include('get.php');
      	}
      	else {
      		if (!headers_sent()) {
      			header('HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found');
      		}
      	}
      }
      else {
      	if (!headers_sent()) {
      		header('HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found');
      	}
      }

      As you can see, I'm checking to see if headers have been sent before trying to set them, but they don't seem to have been. Whenever I try to set a status header with the syntax HTTP/1.1 XXX (description) an internal server error occurs. I have been able to set status using the header Status: 404, but rather than the standard 404 error page appearing a blank HTML document is served to the browser.

      Apache version is 1.3.19 running on Windows 98. PHP version is 4.2.3 running as a cgi.

      Any help would be much appreciated, I'm pretty far out of my depth with changing the way Apache works.
