1. Calling ASP2 applications

    Date: 01/03/06     Keywords: asp, web

How do I instance an ASP2 application from a client machine from within the firewall? Despite that, I wrote it in Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition, whenever I attempt, it tried to read it as if I wrote it for .Net framework 1.1 and not 2.0. I am calling it over HTTP (i.e., HTTP://pjohnson/website1/default.aspx) where the application resides in a folder in WWWRoot.

is there a better way to do this? right now, I use the following to extract my email reporting structure . we pretty much use the alt receipient feature so that at the end of the day, the CEO does get a copy of everyone's mail. there are all kinds of hierachies going on, so its fairly messy to do so.

    any third party tools perhaps?

  5. 2 router configuration / port forwarding problem

    Date: 12/27/05     Keywords: no keywords

Here is an interesting one I hope you guys can help with.

    I
have 2 routers, a linksys connected to my cable broadband, then one of
its ports is wired into the WAN port of a new Netgear ProSafe.

The ProSafe is set to a public static IP of 192.168.1.120 (on the WAN/Linksys side) and its LAN side uses the 192.168.0.x group.

I have 192.168.1.120 set for DMZ on the linksys.

Computers on both subnets can reach each other fine.

My problem is this, I need to employ port forwarding to make services on the Netgear end publicly accessible.

    The
logs on the Netgear are showing that traffic is coming in from outside
and is being accepted by the firewall, and then being returned back to
    IP 192.168.1.120

But nothing on the outside get the returned packets.

My guess is that the linksys is not passing these packets back to the originated public system.

    I
don't have the foggiest clue how to fix this. I've messed around with
static routes to no available. This whole configuration is only working
as well as it is because of RIP (I think).

As always, any help will be appreciated.

    hope cross posting is okay...

Here's one for my network admins and the peanut gallery!......this is a file share issue that I have been milling over for the past month or two that's totally driven me insane.

XP Pro SP2 machines cannot see the shares/files/folders on the Win 2003 SE server. However, all of my 2000 SP4 (roll up done) machines CAN see all the shares/files/folders perfectly fine! No one I've talked to has ever heard of this before! Some days some XP machines can see the shares, other days they can't. Sometimes they can see the folder, but no documents inside nor subfolders! All while the 2000 machines sit pretty since they can see all. I've tried everything [almost, heh] and hunted for a hotfix to no avail.

Suggestions greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance. :) [at this point i'll take a shoulder to cry on over suggestions, lol]

  9. Accounting packages that support china

    Date: 11/18/05     Keywords: microsoft

    Dear all,

My company uses microsoft great plains dynamics for its accounting purposes.

recent expansion into china requires to support chinese characters in customer addresses and names.

my vendor says great plains dynamics just doesn't support chinese input via the microsoft ime (but somehow njstar can input chinese into it), but integration from my office custom application is thus impossible... so taking their word for it, does anyone have alternative packages to recommend?

  11. Network Selection.

    Date: 11/18/05     Keywords: no keywords

Does anyone have any free tools to recommend for switching tcp/ip settings between networks.

    for corporate notebooks
eg: within the office, I require a gate way and proxy server settings.

outside of the office , the user is to take out the gateway and proxy server settings otherwise they cannot connect to the internet.

I'm looking for a tool to set this automagically , I don't believe you can set tcp/ip settings by windows .reg files.

  13. .: Windows Vista Beta 1 Distribution :.

    Date: 11/08/05     Keywords: microsoft

For those who want to evaluate, the distribution is up for downloading.

    www.microsoft.com/technet/windowsvista/evaluate/betadist.mspx

I'm doing the hardware performance eval for my company to see if our existing systems can perform sufficiently with the new OS.

The download speed is quite fast. :) Almost 90% when I'm writing this.

The size is a total of 2.86GB in ISO format and needs to be burn to DVD. This means that the PCs have to have a DVD drive or perhaps I could do a Network Share with either a bootable CD or floppy; have to read the documentation on this.

Oh another thing, to download this, you need to be either a MSDN subscriber or a TechNet Plus subscriber.

  17. Comcast anyone?

    Date: 10/29/05     Keywords: no keywords

Given the large variety of people here, I'm sure there is someone that might know something about this...

I need a way to get in touch with someone at comcast that knows a little bit more than "ok, reboot your modem..."

I'm trying to report a poorly performing router that is probably causing many customers extreme speed issues, but numerous calls via the normal channels lead me to nothing but "Huh? whats traceroute? did you reboot your modem yet?"

    Thanks for any guidance.
