Disable script too long popup
Date: 11/30/05

Sometimes I get a popup on some sites saying: A script is taking to long. Continue or Stop Script?
Where is the option to make the time longer for this popup or disable it?
I remember doing this before but forget how.

Anyone know if there's an extension that allows a user to change the width of a table cell? I'm sick of unreadably thin columns of text on news sites...

Google issues?
Date: 11/26/05

Is anybody else finding that FF 1.5RC3 doesn't seem to hold onto Google cookies?Or is it just me?
My homepage when I bring up Firefox is a personalized google page, and I find I have to constantly log into google, as it won't keep me logged in despite me clicking that particular function on the page. I run into the same problem with Gmail.
I have it set for FF to accept cookies, yet I still have to constantly log into my google functions. Are there any solutions?

A Veritable Cornucopia of Browsers
Date: 11/21/05
Keywords: rss, browser, security, web
Has anyone tried out Flock yet? It is still quite beta, if not alpha, based on Mozilla Firefox, but incorporating some very nice little innovations indeed.
1. All of your Favourites/Bookmarks/Whatever you call them are stored online, by default on del.icio.us . There is even a little star button on the toolbar to bag and tag any page you are on quickly and easily.
2. You can use your Favourites Manager in the normal, everyday boring way. Or you can also use it as an RSS feed reader. Blow me down with a feather.
3. "Flock comes with the open source Clucene search engine built in. Each time you visit a web page, it indexes all the content on that page so you can easily retrace your steps later." Exactly what that means I don't quite know yet. Any techno-babble people want to help me out here?
4. Most frequently visited sites tracking from within favourites. Real, intelligent Favourite Favourites?
5. When you bookmark a page that has a feed, the browser automatically becomes a feed reader and updates every hour.
6. Flock has a built in blog editor that works with WordPress, Movable Type, Typepad, and Blogger. Unfortunately LJ support is expected "shortly".
7. The blog editor integration looks pretty good. You can highlight something on a webpage, right click and choose "Blog this". It will automagically open the editor, with the selection already inserted and formatted.
8. The Blog Editor comes with Flickr integration. Press a button and get a topbar with all your Flickr photos. Assuming you have Flickr of course.
9. An intriguing, very alpha feature, called "The Shelf". Basically if you want to blog about something cool, but you're too busy reading other stuff, you drag stuff onto the shelf so you can drag it into the editor later. It's 'Ron for the net.
Definitely not ready for prime time yet, but with the news from this (badly in need of a spell-checker) article that Firefox are going to be slower at innovating, whilst maintaining speedy responses to security threats and aiming for the most intuitive interface possible, COMBINED with the fact that this is built off of Firefox, and therefore should be able to tap into the wealth of extensions out there quite easily, it is well worth a look.
EDIT: Not quite alpha, not quite beta. That weird stage of in between. Public Beta is slated for December.

Thunderbird: blank lines quoting
Date: 11/17/05
Keywords: html, google
Hello everyone.
Is there any tweak or extension that can help me make Thunderbird (I use 1.5 20051025) stop quoting blank (empty) lines? I think that quoting them is useless.
For example, I want the following message piece:
-- cut --
>> blah! blah!
>>
> Yah-yah! Blah is cool
Yes, I think that blah is cool too
And yah is cool as well
-- /cut --
to be quoted as:
-- cut --
>>> blah! blah!
>> Yah-yah! Blah is cool
> Yes, I think that blah is cool too
> And yah is cool as well
-- /cut --
And if anyone knows the way to make Thunderbird insert a space right after the quoting sign ('>') that will be great as well. The text right after the > looks ugly. I.e. I want to have:
-- cut --
>> Quote 1
> Quote 2
-- /cut --
instead of:
-- cut --
>>Quote 1
>Quote 2
-- /cut --
This applies to the messages sent only.
I use plain-text, not html.
I've searched the google, forums, faqs and knowledge base trying to find some solution to these issues but in vain.
Any help, hint or advice will be GREATLY appreciated.

Opening new tabs. Grrr!
Date: 11/12/05
Keywords: no keywords
Just a quick question about something little more than an annoyance, really..
My room mate and I both have the newest installation of Firefox on our machines. When she middle-clicks on a link to open it in a new tab, her new tab opens in the background, behind the tab she is already viewing.
When mine opens, it will open in the foreground. I've taken a 'mini poll' to see how many of my friends' tabs open on their computers, and they all said they open in the foreground, like mine.
So what has my room mate done to enable hers to open BEHIND the tab she's viewing, so it doesn't disrupt what she's reading, etc.? I'd like to be able to have my tabs load in the background until I'm done reading whatever it was I was looking at.
Thanks if you can help.

Viewing sites in IE after failing in Firefox
Date: 11/08/05
Keywords: browser, web, microsoft
(x-posted from firefoxusers - someone there suggested the IETab extension, but any other ideas?)
I've been noticing a problem recently with viewing sites in IE after I view them in Firefox. I use Firefox as my usual web browser, but if a site fails to work properly in Firefox I open up IE to look at it. Unfortunately, a lot of the time, when I try to view the site in IE I just get a blank white browser window. Is this some kind of attempt by Microsoft to f**k with people who use Firefox (which I wouldn't put past them) or a bug in my system? And how can I stop it from happening?
OS: Windows XP SP2
Firefox: 1.0.7
IE: Don't know the formal version number, but the latest version.
PS: If you can't help, please don't fill up my inbox with exhortations to boycott sites that aren't accessible to Firefox. I know the arguments, but these are sites I need to use.

HELP!!! Thunderbird Problems
Date: 11/06/05
Keywords: no keywords
Okay, so I just installed Thunderbird and configured my gmail account so that I could have email sent from Gmail to my Thunderbird client. Well, I didn't know that Thunderbird would take all of my messages out of my inbox and dump them into Thunderbird. Without making copies of the old ones.
Basically, I am looking for a way to take the mail in my inbox out of Thunderbird and place them back into my gmail inbox.
Help!!! I have a LOT of messages that I would keep in gmail and also in thunderbird... I didn't know that Thunderbird would just take all of the old messages out and not leave copies of them in my gmail account. The propsect of losing all of these emails to Thunderbid and not being able to use Gmail as a back up client makes me very sad. Is there a way to do this? Please help me!!!

Problem with Moz Suite 1.7.12

I'd been running Mozilla suite 1.7.8 and upgraded to 1.7.12. I found that after the upgrade the 'Open in New Tab' function didn't work any more. I tried to revert to the previous version but Windows just removed the whole installation.
Has anyone experienced similar problems.

RSS Feeds...
Date: 11/02/05
Keywords: blogging, web
To those who had been following sunbird_news, the blogging is now in a new blog at MozillaZine under the title Calendar Weblog, available at mozine_cal_blog.
While at MozillaZine getting the new URL, I looked over the other blogs to find a good one to add as a feed. It ultimately came down to Blogzilla, a blog of tips and news for the Mozilla line. I entered the URL on the syndication page, and found it already had readers. So I'm just getting the word out there about blogzilla_feed.
Happy Wednesday!

I'm back... and with a disappointment
Date: 10/30/05
Keywords: no keywords
I was growing tired of the Microcrap I was using, so I decided to re-venture to the Mozilla platform. I've downloaded Mozilla 1.7 and in need of a calendar, installed the calendar plugin. I clicked the icon in the component bar and got an error message... something about iCal not being registered or something and I had made sure I, on my Windows PC, had chosen the Windows installer link. Is there a way to fix the bug in it or does anyone have any tweaks for it or something?

Unable to open new window
Date: 10/30/05
Keywords: browser, google
Having some issues with firefox, in that I cannot open a new window/instance of firefox. I know that this is due to an extension problem, as starting in safe mode solves the problem - although I'd obviously like to use my extensions. As such, I'd definitely like to figure out which extension(s) is/are causing the problem. The thing is, I have quite a few extensions, which are: All-in-one Gestures, Tabbrowser Preferences, PDF Download, Gmail Notifier, IE view, Countdown Clock extension, SwiftTabs, Download Statusbar, Greasemonkey, Firesomething, Autohide, DictionarySearch, GooglePreview, Copy Plain Text, Zoomy, Bookmark Backup, Fusion, HashColoured Tabs, Read Easily, Forecast Fox, StumbleUpon, Adblock, Adblock Filterset.G Updater and Customize Google. I've uninstalled-reinstalled, rebooted, swore a lot, etc and still do not know what is causing the issue.
Also, when closing Firefox, it does not actually end the process. I close Firefox, and look in the process list - it is still listed, and taking more memory than it normally would. Also, due to the fact that I am unable to open a new window/instance, I of course cannot open Firefox again until I end-task the frozen instance in the process tree.
Any ideas?

mozilla to firefox...
Date: 10/22/05
Keywords: browser, asp, google
i've been a mozilla user for a while now. (before that i used netscape. (and of course before that i used ie.))
i thorougly enjoy the tabbed browsing aspect of the browser.
anyway, i'm trying to make the switch over to firefox, because support for mozilla is waning.
besides not having the composer, my main complaint with mozilla is that i cannot figure out how to make it load new links on tabs in the background. i have it set to load links on new tabs in the same window... but it makes the new page over top of what i'm doing. i want it to open a tab in the background.
i'm pretty sure it's not something having to do with the options because i have checked and double checked that, but it is possible i am missing something. if it is there, where is it?
if it isn't something in the options, is it something i can change some other way?
oh, and another complaint is that i can't search google just by entering stuff in the address bar and moving down to the search google option. but i've been trying to train myself to use the google search field instead, but i just don't like it.
is there any way i can set the address bar to do google searches like mozilla does?
