Php Shopping Cart Solution
Date: 11/28/06
(Web Development) Keywords: php, shopping
Okay, a php shopping cart solution that supports recurring billing that can be customized.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I know there are SOME shopping carts out there that support reoccuring billing, but they want to charge 5.5% of each sale. Which is ridiculous when it's all said and done. Especially since I've never even heard of the shopping cart before.
If there aren't any suggestions on this, how would you guys deal with products that need reoccuring billing?
Thanks in advance,
-Mandy

Shopping Cart Hell
Date: 12/05/06
(WebDesign) Keywords: html, java, web, hosting, shopping
I'm designing a website for a friend. I have a pretty basic knowledge of html but that's about it. I'm good at simple sites. My friend wants a shopping cart, and would prefer not paypal since it can't calculate shipping. Her hosting plan comes with AgoraCart but I can't figure out how in the heck to integrate it seemlessly into my web design. From what I see it only lets you put in a header and/or footer and you can make no changes to the body. This site isn't just pictures and buy now so that's a problem.
So the impossible dream questions. Does anyone know of a shopping cart that is: Free, can be integrated into the body and let you add things around it, doesn't require extensive knowledge of perl, java, etc, and works with Dreamweaver would be nice but not required (i can use other html editors).
Thanks.

credit card payment from website?
Date: 12/06/06
(WebDesign) Keywords: php, software, security, web, shopping
I have this project, which started out as a relaunch of a relatively simple website for a photographer, and is getting more and more complicated. Which is fine, as long as I'm getting paid and I *know* what to do... ;-)
Part of the website is a simple php based ordering system without payment options (customer chooses photos, orders, gets a confirmation/invoice email; photographer also gets confirmation email, waits for customer to pay via check or bank transfer, then sends photos to the given address).
We had discussed including paypal payment, but now my client wants her customers to have the option to pay directly with their credit card when ordering. I've never done anything like this, and am not sure what is the best and most simple way to implement it.
I know some providers (no provider/host yet, so I'm open for any suggestions) offer e-commerce/shopping cart software, but I'm not sure if that's what I'm looking for, as I don't want to change anything with the ordering system itself if possible. What I do need is a way to initiate the transaction of a given sum of money from the customer's credit card to my clients bank account; including security issues and whatnot.
Is the best/easiest way to use e-commerce software? Is it possible (for someone who's not a total newbie but not a php guru either) to do that with a php script?
Any help, suggestion, information is welcome, thanks. :-)

shopping cart systems?
Date: 02/06/07
(WebDesign) Keywords: php, asp, shopping
I usually design small shopping carts with CoolCart and make the buttons and stuff myself, but I have a client that may change things a lot once the site goes live.
I'd say 50 - 75 items max over 5 or 6 catagories. The client should be able to login to a admin screen, create the information or change the info about a product, upload a thumbnail and post the price.
Running ASP in the design at the moment but open to PHP.
Anyone have a suggestion for something that can be purchased or is 3rd party but is seamless with the site that is being designed?

Finding the "Right Sized" Store/Admin
Date: 05/17/07
(WebDesign) Keywords: php, oscommerce, web, shopping
I realize questions have been asked frequently about online webstore/shopping cart sources. I've checked out both oscommerce and zen cart, and they both seem great, but oscommerce is far too bloated with features for the limited functionality I need, and zen cart doesn't seem to support the payment gateways I'd like.
Does someone have a recommendation for a vary basic web store? It's for a site for an artist/licensor who would like to sell some of her published items on her own site. It is not primarily a webstore, and the store part will function as a hybrid gallery/store.
Basically, here's all I need, no more no less:
- Customizable (to intergrate with existing site)
- An admin area that enables the client to add or remove products on her own
- Capability for about 30 items for sale (that's all)
- I would prefer to have a payment gateway for standard credit card processing and paypal, but mostly standard credit card processing (which, from what I can gather, zen cart does not offer)
- Integrated checkout (not one that takes you to a gateway's checkout page)
That's really all I need. It's really simple and low on features. What should I be looking at?
I have a very basic knowledge of php -- can't write it but can work my way around pre-written php.

shopping Carts

(Web Development) Keywords: web, shopping
So I would like to add shopping carts to my web packages. How should I do this? Do people let customers choose the one they want or use a specific one for clients then buy additional licenses when requested?
Or do most code their own and offer them that way?

Pay-for-Download PDFs
Date: 08/10/07
(WebDesign) Keywords: oscommerce, database, google, shopping
My Google-fu is mostly failing me on this one. I need to provide a PDF for download, payment via PayPal. I'd very much prefer that the payment automatically validate and set up a username/password for downloading, so I'm looking for something more than a simple PayPal button.
It's just one PDF, so the usual shopping carts I've used (like osCommerce) are really overkill. I found and tried ipnDownload, but so far I can't make it function - it'll add items to the database, but when I send and it processes payments, it doesn't produce an email to the purchaser, add them as users, or record the transaction, so there's no download possible. I'm attempting to sort through the code and figure out what's going wrong, but it's taking a very long time.
Any suggestions for other similar snippet programs or experience with the same error in this one greatly appreciated.

Internal PC Hard Drive - SCSI or ATA?

What's the difference between the two formats, and how do I tell which ones I already have in my system? I'm running XP, with the original 40g (ha!) drive, and an additional 150g drive I installed last year (at work right now, shopping online). I want to get at least a 500g drive for movies, but don't know which type I need to get.

Dynamic Tables
Date: 09/05/07
(MySQL Communtiy) Keywords: software, database, shopping
A friend of mine uses an interesting technique that I'm curious about. In addition to the initial database tables, his software (scripts, program, whatever) adds and deletes additional tables as needed to store other mostly temporary information. For example, with a shopping cart, he adds a temporary table for each user to have their own table with the items they've added.
I'm really not too keen on doing things this way. Is anything even remotely like this common and/or good practice?

Shopping Cart Suggestions
Date: 10/03/07
(WebDesign) Keywords: web, shopping
Hello, all. It's been a while since I've posted here. I have a question regarding shopping carts that I'm hoping someone can help me out with. I have recently created a website that uses the Paypal Shopping Cart for customers to purchase items. The company's product is being featured in a magazine and they would like to be able to use a promotional code for customers to receive free shipping when they purchase two or more items. The customers would need to enter in the promotional code in order to receive the free shipping. I know the basic Paypal Cart does not allow this. I've tried several work arounds and have been looking at some different solutions, but I can't seem to find one that is exactly what I need. What I'm looking for is something that will integrate with my Paypal Add to Cart button, allow the user to enter in a promotional code, and then calculate the free shipping based on total order quantities of two or more. (I hope that makes sense).
Does anyone have any suggestions of some carts I could try? Preferably free, but I think the company would be willing to pay a little if need be. Thanks so much for any input!

Shopping Cart Question

(WebDesign) Keywords: java, shopping
I've been contacted by a good friend of mine that's a photographer and he wants to redo his site AND install a shopping cart system.
What is the easiest and least time consuming way to do this. I've heard good things about Paypal and their system. I don't know that much about java script but I've also read a bit about the extension shopping cart through Dreamweaver. Is it really free?
Thanks in advance and an additional question. For those shopping cart systems that you recomend can you give me the url of a site that uses it?

Help to choose a CMS
Date: 11/03/07
(Web Development) Keywords: cms, php, templates, web, shopping
I need to choose a CMS and roll out a website fairly fast. I've never used a CMS before and I don't have time to test several of them, please help me to choose. I've narrowed the field to Drupal, Joomla and ModX, but let me know if I've overlooked anything good. I don't mind coding but won't have a lot of time for this, so the more I can have out of the box, the better.
What I need:
This is a site for a professional organization with paid membership. This site will be edited by volunteers who don't know anything about web development, so I need to create a separate minimalistic back-end for them, that doesn't show any admin functions.
I'll need a calendar, user registration with custom form (and SSL), some members-only pages, forum, possibility of user rating/comments on resources, possibly shopping cart. Also some kind of bookmark app, so users can see a list of their favorite site resources when they log in. I'll also need to provide a chance for state-level organization to have their sub-sites with their own navigation and graphics, but using our templates.
As all this is probably hard to find in one package, I'll need above all flexibility and to be able to integrate easily with other PHP scripts.
Please help, I have to make a decision in the next few days. Thanks!

an endless loop of Csharp.Frustration[s]
Date: 11/22/07
(Web Development) Keywords: database, asp, security, web, shopping
Hi all,
I'll write my C# frustrations here...Note that this is for an assignment, so there is no need to worry about security issues and all those other wonderful things. I would ask my professor, but he's a programmer...and he's horrible at getting his thoughts across.
I created a web form that allows users to choose a certain amount of a product they want, and afterwards, it all gets confirmed and a message shows up saying the conversion was completed (even though it wasn't...not yet anyway)
Please note that I am NOT looking for code answers just to copy and paste. I would like the theory of how I should go about solving this - since most websites just give you a basic understanding of how try/catch works.
Problem 1: How do I implement the "try", "catch", "finally" exception if a user picks the same product and quantity twice? I already have an if-statement that keeps track of what has been chosen in the user's session. Would the try/catch go into that if-statement?
Problem 2: What if the user decides to first order 3 items of a product, then decides to order more? How would I input this into the "try", "catch", "finally"? I have an if-statement that keeps track of whether the quantity has been "trimmed" or not.
Problem 3: Do I need a database connection command in that particular web page to determine how much of a product has been chosen and how much is available to other users?
Problem 4: Confirmation e-mail. I understand the whole idea of "using System.Net;" for email, but how would I go about implementing code to get an e-mail application started? (This problem/question is seperate from the code below)
Here's my code for the different problems 1 - 3:
protected void btnOrder_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
//Check for Shoppingcart object
// Create first if not there
if (Session["cart"] == null)
{
Session["cart"] = new ShoppingCart();
int quantity = 0;
}
// make sure there is text
if (txtQuantity.Text.Trim().Length != 0)
{
// try to convert text to int ???
int quantity = int.Parse(txtQuantity.Text);
// check for this item in the cart
// Note this only makes sense if the "cart" exists
// since it checks for an individual item in the cart
if (((ShoppingCart)Session["cart"]).
keyExists(int.Parse(TextBox1.Text)))
{
//throw new Exception("Item already in cart - fix this");
Response.Write("Item already exists in cart. What do you want to do?");
// Message to user that product is already in the order
///AND this is where my problems start:
/*try
{
Response.Write("Item already exists, what do you want to do?");
}
catch (ArgumentException de)
{
ShoppingCart;
}
finally
{
Console.WriteLine("Finally Block");
}
* */
///END of one set of problems (sorry for intending issues)
}
if ((txtQuantity.Text.Trim().Length != 0)) // This is a new item
{
//Response.Write("Please choose the quantity");
OrderItem item = new OrderItem(
int.Parse(TextBox1.Text), TextBox2.Text,
double.Parse(TextBox6.Text),
int.Parse(txtQuantity.Text));
((ShoppingCart)Session["cart"]).addToCart(item);
Response.Write("Item added successfully!");
Server.Transfer("CatalogDisplay.aspx");
}
else
{
// Make the item
OrderItem item = new OrderItem(
int.Parse(TextBox1.Text), TextBox2.Text,
double.Parse(TextBox6.Text),
int.Parse(txtQuantity.Text));
// add to cart
((ShoppingCart)Session["cart"]).addToCart(item);
///////////////////////////////not sure what the next part does
// How to make this work ??
// Who is the sender ?
// What are the System.EventArgs ?
this.btnReturn_Click(sender, e);
//////////end of "not sure"
}
else
{
//Basically if the quantity field is empty, you can't move on to the Order page.
Response.Write("Nothing Ordered
You must order some of the product or return to the Catalog");
}
