Date: 11/10/06

Software products, in the past, used to come in a shiny box with the CD (or floppy) and user manuals. With the evolving times and acceptance of internet, most products today are made available online, via website or email. User manuals too come either as pdf files or in html format. However it is still [...]

Value of Microsoft’s patent pledge is questioned
Date: 11/15/06
(Open Source) Keywords: software, microsoft
Don't be confused by the illusion of a truce; developers are no safer from Microsoft patents now than they were before. Instead, Microsoft has used this patent pledge to indicate that, in their view, the only good Free Software developer is an isolated, uncompensated, unimportant Free Software developer.

Editing a .lit file
Date: 11/17/06
(Computer Help) Keywords: software
I was wondering how to "open" and edit a .lit document.
See, I've got this series of books in .lit format, but there's no table of contents so I can't just jump to the book I want, which is annoying, to say the least.
Can any of you clever folks here tell me how to and, if any, what kind of software I need to arrange this stuff as I prefer? ;->
Thanks for any and all help on advance.
X-posted.

Can Bill Hilf change the Microsoft culture?
Date: 11/17/06
(Open Source) Keywords: software, microsoft
I think the most important question is whether Hilf can show Microsoft a way to profit from all this. The bottom line remains the bottom line. And there is no way on Earth Microsoft will ever earn the margins from open source it gets from proprietary software.

Means and ends in open source
Date: 11/18/06
(Open Source) Keywords: programming, software
Open source, by its nature, drives down pure software revenues. You can put some of those revenues into other bins, you can call them support, or contract programming, or services, but over time recurring product revenues wither.

Video File Catalogue Software
Date: 11/20/06
(Computer Geeks) Keywords: software
Hi folks,
Anyone know of some software that will catalogue video files on a PC? It can catalogue other files as well, but I'm only interested in video files, primarily AVIs (yes, this is for Windows).
Ideally the software will be able to search for files and update, as well as have a catalogue that is very quick to search. Cathy is one example, but it's behaving strangely (not finding certain files), I can't seem to force it to just AVI files, and the UI is less than brilliant.
Any recommendations?
Thanks

Further to my previous post about finding a program that'll list and allow printouts of files, I thought I'd try a different tack.

Fears of Microsoft are over-blown
Date: 11/27/06

Americans are not going to knuckle-under to a Microsoft monopoly on software development. More particularly, the rest of the world won't. And Microsoft doesn't do politics particularly well.
