Ticket Tracking Software
Date: 11/28/06
(IT Professionals) Keywords: software
Hey guys and gal's!
Just looking for some reccomendations to ticket-tracking software.
Our company currently uses Numera's Track-It!, but it doesn't meet our needs, nor is it exceptionally intuitive or easy to use. The reason we had it in the first place was because of the people we contracted our IT positions to used it and licensed it through their company.
- 150-200 users in the company
- Only between 2-3 people will be entering/managing/completing tickets
- Not-for-Profit organization (Local historic monument/museum)
- Settings must be easily changeable and adaptable
- *must* be easy to use/figure out
- Does not need to contain asset tracking systems, but if it does, that's a bonus
- Able to receive ticket information from e-mail
Thanks so much for any reccomendations!

Partition

(Computer Help) Keywords: software
Question:
Just recently got a 500gb external HD. I don't want to leave it as one giant sector. But instead would like to have 2 250gb or 3 (160,170,170gb) partitions or compartments or whatever the proper term is. I've heard that there is a way to do so within windows but I don't know how. Is there a way to do so within windows or is the need of a software needed?
Thanks to any responses and guides.

Patent reform is a big part of the answer. Instead of just fighting pitched battles on individual patents, isn't it time groups like the Software Freedom Law Center got behind a reform proposal?

credit card payment from website?
Date: 12/06/06
(WebDesign) Keywords: php, software, security, web, shopping
I have this project, which started out as a relaunch of a relatively simple website for a photographer, and is getting more and more complicated. Which is fine, as long as I'm getting paid and I *know* what to do... ;-)
Part of the website is a simple php based ordering system without payment options (customer chooses photos, orders, gets a confirmation/invoice email; photographer also gets confirmation email, waits for customer to pay via check or bank transfer, then sends photos to the given address).
We had discussed including paypal payment, but now my client wants her customers to have the option to pay directly with their credit card when ordering. I've never done anything like this, and am not sure what is the best and most simple way to implement it.
I know some providers (no provider/host yet, so I'm open for any suggestions) offer e-commerce/shopping cart software, but I'm not sure if that's what I'm looking for, as I don't want to change anything with the ordering system itself if possible. What I do need is a way to initiate the transaction of a given sum of money from the customer's credit card to my clients bank account; including security issues and whatnot.
Is the best/easiest way to use e-commerce software? Is it possible (for someone who's not a total newbie but not a php guru either) to do that with a php script?
Any help, suggestion, information is welcome, thanks. :-)

Slideshows
Date: 12/07/06
(Computer Help) Keywords: software
Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question. But I want to make a slideshow with some photos with music etc but I'm not sure what kind of software I could use for this. I have Windows movie maker but it's just so difficult getting the slideshow onto a DVD.
I wanted to make a thing at the start and in between the photos, with a collage or something for each country that I visited. Does anyone know if any software would allow me to do that? I tried making a collage in powerpoint and transferring it over, but that didn't work :( I'd appreciate any help any of you have to offer :)
Also something that's free and that I can download now would be great, or you may know of a program I already have..or help using windows media player (transferring to dvd) :)

What is a good virtual disk compress software for Windows XP?
Date: 12/07/06
(Computer Geeks) Keywords: software
It must meet the following requirements:
1. Good compression. This means something that's not archaic like what NTFS uses (LZ77).
2. Good speed. Some decrease in speed compared to normal drive is acceptable, but not a lot.
3. Compression of an entire FS (A) or a directory (B). If (B), then #4 doesn't apply.
4. Virtual drive: a file containing the compressed FS which can be mounted as a normal drive (like FreeBSD vnode); OR
virtual drive software that can mount a file containing an arbitrary FS for reading and writing (i.e. not a CD/DVD).
In other words, I basically just want automatic compression of either a directory or file system, done transparently to the programs accessing the files and at a reasonable speed.

Charitable donations?
Date: 12/12/06
(WebDesign) Keywords: software, web
I'm setting up a website for a local charity, and I have it in mind to set it up for people to make donations online (isn't that the point?). I've never done this, however, and I don't have any idea how to start. Are there any services (Paypal-esque perhaps) that are set up to handle this? Are there any software packages already written specifically for this purpose? What's involved in personally processing credit card donations, or would we be better off using a service as mentioned? I have no experience with this, either with making donations online or receiving them, or with any brand of e-commerce, so any advice at all would be appreciated.
