1. Drop Down Menus, javascript

    Date: 04/13/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: web

    I'm not very knowledgable with js at all but I'm trying. I've copied some script from a downloaded thing which works on my computer but not on the website. I can't work out what's wrong. This is a little section of it. The problem is that when I put the mouse on the Introduction title, the dropdown menu doesn't show.

    Code:

    If anyone can help I'd be extremely grateful.

    P.S. Perhaps, I've put all the coding in the wrong place. I will add more if what there is isn't sufficient.

    Hello! I have an idea how this is supposed to work but not really.

    I have to create a function (authenticateform function)where a user will enter their username and password and then click a connect button which takes them to the main menu form. The username and password need to be kept from one web page to the next so we have to save them in 2 hidden variables at the end of each form. We have to retrieve the variables at the start of each form. We have to use 2 reusable routines.

    This whole Content Management System thing is overwhelming, and I hope I can get some guidance from you folks.

    My new client wants to be able to change the look of the index page monthly. The client does not understand HTML.

    The ISP has the following CMS products available: Drupal, Geeklog, Joomla, Mambo Open Source, PHP-Nuke, phpWCMS, phpWebSite, Post-Nuke, Siteframe, TYPO3, and Xoops. These are all add-ons via Fantastico.

    What I think the client wants (subject to new revelations) is a way to change an image and maybe some text on one page, but they'll probably want to do something similar on other pages, too, eventually.

    Has anyone worked with these products? Any comments good or bad about them?

  9. Problem...

    Date: 04/17/07 (PHP Community)    Keywords: php, security, web

    Hi, I'm new here but I hope I can get some help anyway...

    I have a big problem. I do webdesign and one of my sites got hacked today. The web hotel tells me that there is a "security risk" in my index.php file. I can only assume that it's the php-part of the file. The problem is, I don't know much about PHP really - the php I do have was written with someone else's help.

    So, I'm going to ask you if you can help me.

    The PHP-part in the header is:

    $sidan = $_GET['link'].'.php';

    if ($sidan==".php") {
    $sidan = "start.php";
    }

    //print $sidan;
    ?>

    The PHP-part in the body is:

    As several of my sites are built on this string of PHP, this really sucks... the web hotel has closed down the site that got attacked. If anyone can help me, I'll be forever thankful... my own website is built up the exact same way if you want to check out the code there.

    Moderator, if this isn't allowed on this forum just let me know.

    I get a lot of emails daily for various web dev and programming positions available. I found a good job, but I keep my resume up. Ya never know.

    Just feel guilty constantly deleting them when I know someone may need them. Figured I'd at least post them for any coder friends that may be looking for something. I lj-cut it so it wouldn't be too obtrusive.

    If these are just found to be crap, let me know and I'll stop passing them on. But some of them at least appear to have potential. They're all fresh over the past 24 hours.

    To whoever is currently looking, hope these help! If it's ok, I'll send periodic digests of these if anyone finds them worthwhile.

  11. How do I determine the age of a website?

    Date: 04/17/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: web, google

    As a volunteer project for my daughter's daycare centre, I'm doing some research into what constitutes good design for daycare websites. One of Google's first picks yielded this (obviously outdated) page on the subject. But despite the copyright notice stating 2004 (which MUST be a renewal -- this site looks circa 1998 to me), is there a way to definitively determine the creation date of a given web page?

    I viewed the source for the page but didn't see anything obvious. Is there a way to discover the actual date stamp of a given web page?

    By the way, if anyone here has any experience with developing (or seeing) a well-designed daycare website, please do reply with sample links, won't you? Looks like we're going to be doing a lot of our own creative, here. (Even with the depth provided on this page of Top 100 Preschool Sites...)

    Thanks in advance.

    Dustin

    Edit: I had to add this site for further breadth to my examples. Make sure your speakers are on for the MIDI magic...

  12. ProStore vs Website Store

    Date: 04/17/07 (Web Development)    Keywords: web, ebay

    HI,

    I was wondering if anyone here on webdev has had experience with ProStore. A potential client of mine needs to know which option would be better, mostly in terms of "web visibility": Having an e-commerce store built into their pre-existing web site, or creating an Ebay ProStore that would be linked to from their web site.

    I tend to think a custom store would look more professional than a ProStore, but what would be the better option in terms of people finding the store when looking for these items (architectural artifacts)? I'm not sure what to tell her and I am looking for advice.

    Thanks, mike ray

  15. Footer Issues along with Div

    Date: 04/17/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: asp, web

    Ok, I'm such a newbie to this, it's embarrassing to post. I'm trying to teach myself web design. I can hand code a REALLY simple page, but I'm trying to learn Dreamweaver. I am only familiar with divs, so when I figured out how to do that with Dreamweaver (today) I got all excited. I created my first craptastic web site with it. It's SO basic, it's pathetic, and I still couldn't even get my footer to show up.

    I was just wondering if someone could breeze through my codes and take a peek to see if I handled my divs correctly, or if I have too many (which I suspect I might) - and, I don't know what the hell I'm doing with position: absolute or relative... absolute seems to connect the entire page to that one spot, then I'm forever absoluting all other aspects of the layout. I suspect that's the error that's causing my footer not to show.

    If this is not in the correct community (because most people seem to know what they are doing here) I'd appreciate a pointed finger on where to go.

  17. net connection going nuts...

    Date: 04/19/07 (Computer Help)    Keywords: software, browser, virus, web, spyware

    SOLLUTION:
    I had NETframework installed, which effected many applications on windows.
    I uninstalled it.
    Possible other problem:
    Tag by mailware.

    Thank you so much for your help!

    I’m running Windows XP and I’m using BitDefender, Spybot and AdAware.

    My problem:
    My internet connection suddenly cuts off when I’m surfing the web. Usually, my messenger switches off first. I don’t think I would really notice if I didn’t have my messenger on, because my net-connection icon doesn’t switch off at all. Nor does my LAN-status-icon change.
    It all started when I rebooted my computer a few days ago, and my computer suddenly asked me for my username and password. I never ever make a computer administrator account/user account and activate it, though I know it’s always there from the start. It’s driving me nuts!
    I tried deactivating it, but it won’t let me. I can’t even change it or anything.
    Maybe I installed some software that activated it. I don’t know.
    I haven’t knowingly downloaded any malicious software and installed it ever since formatting my computer, and neither spybot, AdAware nor BitDefender find anything when I do a system scan.
    Another odd thing is that BitDefender is now always trying to connect to the internet without being prompted to. I have switched off automatic updates, because I can’t stand it when I’m in the middle of doing something, and those updates start eating up all my MB RAM.
    Anyway. When my connection breaks down, the connection-icon doesn’t vanish as it usually would. It shows me that I’m still online. When I double-click on it, a window opens and vanishes again instantly, though it shouldn’t. When I left-click on it and try to cut the connection, I don’t get a reaction. The icon doesn’t change.
    What confuses me the most is that my messenger won’t reconnect, my browser won’t open any new sites, but the clip I’m watching over at youtube dot com won’t stop playing. As far as I know, internet connection is required for watching clips at youtube.
    I’m very confused right now, and I really hope that all of this makes sense.

    (again in short: 1) my browser and messenger seem to be cut off from the net, but the icons tell me I’m online – and so does youtube.
    2) I can’t deactivate my local user account – which I myself have never activated
    3) my spyware and anti-virus software doesn’t detect any infected or defect files/etc.)

    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Is my network card maybe messed up somehow? It’s brand new, but it was super-cheap.
    Is my computer maybe infected with a virus or Trojan, that somehow manipulates my anti-virus and spyware software?

    Your help and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Date: 04/20/07 (HTML Help)    Keywords: web

    Hey all--

    Recently, when trying to embed videos from YouTube, I have encountered problems. I use the embed code that YouTube gives on their website beside each video. I can embed the first video with no problems. But, after that, problems occur. LiveJournal embeds the same video equivalent to the number of the video in the post (e.g. the third embedded video in the post will be embedded three times). Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

    Can anyone tell me how to fix this issue?

    Thank you!
