1. Red Alert: Urgent assistance required!

Date: 08/17/07 (Computer Help)    Keywords: web, spyware, microsoft

Urgent help needed combatting spyware/virii that keep opening/redirecting fucking Microsoft I.E to spy-shredder.com and "ultimate defender" websites, along with pop-up boxes and replaced wallpaper that seems to be active as an Internet page picture.

ANY help is welcome! Be it known programs that can kill this to how to kill it manually in regedit!

Symantec and Ad aware have NO idea what it is, but it keeps multiplying at an annoying rate, OFTEN.

I swear, last time I let anyone on my PC ever again...

(I know this isn't a helpdesk, but usually fellow computer geeks are more helpful/useful.)

  2. Terminal Services / Fast User Switching

Date: 08/17/07 (Computer Help)    Keywords: software, virus, antivirus, web, microsoft

I've always been able to switch between different users on the computer without having to log out, but for some reason it won't anymore. I've been to the Microsoft website but haven't found any help. As far as I can tell, there's something wrong with my Terminal Services and Fast User Switching and I cannot turn either of them on. I installed a new antivirus software that I think disabled them, but I still couldn't get it working after I uninstalled it and for some reason none of my backups make a difference. I'm using Windows XP Professional if that helps.

Could anybody offer any help? It's so annoying not being able to switch between accounts. I've been told that formatting the computer will fix the problem, but I really don't want to do that..

    Thanks.

    Date: 08/18/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: web

My friend whose interning right now has been thrown the task of creating an e-commerce website. Specifically, the customer would be able to enter in a value of how much product they want, and a sum would be generated automatically, telling them how much this will cost them.

How would this be accomplished? Would she need to download some extensions?

Hopefully I explained this well enough.

    Thank you

    Date: 08/19/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: web

    Hi everyone,
I'm new to web design and I was hoping i could find some tips here. I have my layout , now I'm trying to create slices in imageready, and that's where I get confused. I know you can convert layers to slices - i tried that and it seemed like that wasn't correct. also, should there be a slice for every button (for example, on a navigation bar), or should the whole row of buttons be one slice? is there a way to undo slices in imageready?
    thanks

  6. Halp!

Date: 08/20/07 (Mozilla)    Keywords: browser, web

    Ok, so here's my trouble...
I have a Mac laptop. Since Safari is an inferior web browser, I download Firefox. I get an icon in my Applications that is a sheet of paper with a hard drive on it called Firefox 2.0.0.6 dmg, and an icon of an external drive with the Firefox logo in my desktop. I click on the icon in my desktop and it brings open a small window with a Firefox logo in color on the left, a greyscale logo with a plus sign and arrow pointing at it in the middle and a greyscale Applications icon on the right. I can click on the color logo and it opens a Firefox browser. I cannot click anything else in the window.
When I shut down my computer and turn it on later to use it, the icon is gone from my desktop. There is only the paper with a harddrive icon in Applications. I have to click it and re-accept the Terms of Service, and Then I get the weird window with the 3 icons all over again. It is annoying and I wish I could just have Firefox all the time. And not have to jump through a bunch of hoops...
    Thanks
    Michele

Has anyone had experience changing the PHP settings on a GoDaddy economy hosting account (NOT a virtual dedicated server) using a php.ini file in the root directory? The online help for GoDaddy told me this was possible, but I created a file called php5.ini in the root directory of my web site and the changes have not taken effect (I did this last night) Can anyone shed some light on this?

I get the feeling I might have to upgrade to a virtual dedicated server, but I would rather not.

  12. authorize.net?

Date: 08/21/07 (PHP Community)    Keywords: html, web

a client of mine (a politican) wants to be able to take donations using their authorize.net account, i've never done this before. :)

    i found this open-source script:
    http://napersolutions.com/aim_payment_bridge.html

and it seems to do the trick just fine on my unix-based host, and is actually pretty well done (easy to edit) etc, but when i upload it to the client's host, which is windows-based (yeah, i know) it won't connect to the payment bridge.

the script mentions this if you don't get a response from the host:

// 1) You may not be https or a secure connection to Authoriznet (SSL)
// 2) It could also mean that you are not using port 443, the port
    required by Authorizenet
// 3) You may not have the proper version of CURL installed that support SSL
// 4) Curl may not be initialized
// 5) Also, Apple OSX Server has a preference in the Web Server that
    defaults to "enable
// performance cache" and this seems to throw requests to other ports rather
// than their default assigned ones. Disable "performance cache" and
    restart the Web server.

i know #1 is correct because I'm using the shared ssl but i'm not sure about the others.

the response from the client's host was less than helpful.

    --

Unfortunatley we cannot offer any further advice on how to get
authorize.net to work with our system.

Our system does work with authorize.net, however what permissions/
changes need to be done to get it to work, I cannot say.

I can confirm thatcURL 7.95 is installed on the server as well as the
port 443 is being used for the shared ssl. We are a Windows operating
system network and so the Apple Server would not apply.

You may wish to see if you need a ssl certificate that has the domain
name on it to work with authorize.net.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.

    --

i'm pretty much at a loss here. any help/insights would be appreciated as i don't think this client will want to switch hosts.

maybe an easier way to take donations?

  15. Annoying SQL issue

Date: 08/21/07 (IT Professionals)    Keywords: asp, sql, web

    Hey all-

I've got a really weird SQL issue going on with one of our web servers. SQL is generating an error to the tune of:

    Type: Error
    Source: SQLSERVERAGENT
    Category: Alert Engine
    Event ID: 318
    Date: 8/21/2007
    Time: 10:56:34 AM
    User: N/A
    Computer: (servername)
    Description:
Unable to read local eventlog (reason: The data area passed to a system call is too small).

EventID.Net claims it as a few things, and none of them have really applied here. Is this indicative of a pagefile size issue, or is something more serious happening here? I'm racking my brain here, and these errors are filling up the event log to the point where it's pushing off hypothetically legit errors.

    FWIW - Server Specs:

Dell PowerEdge 2850, Quad Processor, 4 gigs of memory, Server 2003, SQL 2000, IIS/ASP.net, Veritas Backup Agent for Servers, tons of HD space, all current Windows Updates (errors were occuring prior to last set of updates/reboot for updates).

    Thanks for reading!

  16. Want to make your site look better on the iPhone with one line of HTML?

Date: 08/21/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: browser, web

It’s easy—just add a tag that lets the iPhone know how wide to display the initial page. I added the following code to the in my template yesterday:

    <meta name=“viewport” content=“width=808″ />
Every browser besides MobileSafari will ignore this information. But it does something very important on the iPhone: it optimizes the viewport for your content.

By default, the iPhone uses a viewport of 980 pixels—a value chosen to maximize compatibility with a broad range of web sites. When you specify the viewport width explicitly, you will eliminate any empty space between that 980 pixels and the width of your element.

  17. Inserting text with CSS

Date: 08/21/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: css, web

Hello to the CSS experts out there - I am dealing with content inside css-bordered boxes that is in paragraph list form:
    one, two, three, ...

Is there a way to insert the comma in that list with CSS? All I know how to do is:
    one | two | three | ...
with a border. Client doesn't want that.

I ask because I am starting from an unordered list. I need to keep those list items in their own containers to apply unique styles.

    I am hoping to avoid:
    [span]one[/span], [span]two[/span], [span]three[/span], ...

Date: 08/23/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: browser, java, web

I have to say that I'm a beginner when it comes to web design, so please be patient with me.

I'm trying to incorporate this script into my website http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex4/lightbox2/index.htm but for some reason when I preview it, my enlarged picture just showes up in a new browser in the top-left side.
I also tried using this script http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex4/thumbnail.htm and the same thing happens. I checked all my paths, I attached the stylesheet and I put the links in the header for the .js files.

I don't know javascript at all, so I'm not sure if I should just leave the files in my site root folder or if I should copy and paste it into the header as well....

What am I doing wrong??? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
