Trouble Viewing QuickTime Movies embedded into PDF
Date: 03/14/06
(Computer Geeks) Keywords: software, browser, html, web, google
Edited for solution
It's been forever and a day since I've been able to view any of the tutorials from this site -- http://tutorials.stuartlittlephotography.co.uk/
Apparently I'm not the only one, so he sent out an email the other day --
Removing White Backgrounds
Hi There,
In the past 2 weeks I have been experimenting with different ways of delivering the weekly tutorial, because depending on what computer set up you have, you either get to watch the tutorial or you don't. "I have been listening to your comments you know" :)
So I have come up with a way of embedding the normal Quicktime video into a pdf and using that pdf as a container for delivery through your browser. The pdf version has been tested with users like yourself this week on Internet Explorer, Mozilla & Safari web browsers and no problems so far.
Instructions
You will need to have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader 7. Its free and you can get it by clicking on the link below or copying and pasting the url into your web browser.
Get Adobe Reader
Click or Copy & Paste into Browser.
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
Once you have Acrobat installed you can then go to the tutorials page as normal.
When you click on the "View Here" link, a blank browser page will appear and the pdf will start to download. It is 10.48mb in size and will take about 2.5 min's to download.
Once you can view the page in the browser you will then be able to "save a copy" to your desktop and view offline for as long as you want.
Finally, there is an option in Acrobat to change the view in %. The video tutorial is best viewed at 75% rather than the default 100%. If you have any problems then please email me by return.
This method of pdf delivery has been tested this week, but I am very keen to know what you think of it?
Removing White Backgrounds
This episode shows you how to remove a subject from its white background and blend with another image.
Click or Copy & Paste into Browser.
http://tutorials.stuartlittlephotography.co.uk/
I downloaded the tutorial. I have Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 and Quicktime 7 but when I tried to
view it, I got the error "The media requires an additional player. Please click 'Get Media Player' to download the correct media player. To play the media, you will need to close and restart the application once the player installation is complete." When I click 'Get Media Player' it takes me to the Apple site and I download Itunes and Quicktime 7, which I already have. So, I uninstalled QuickTime 7 and installed 6.5.2. Now I can get past that initial error, but I am back to hearing audio and no video. I get this error "QuickTime is missing software required to perform this operation. Unfortunately, it is not available on the QuickTime server."
I can't seem to find anything helpful with google. Can someone please help me alleviate my frustration?
Cheers!!
The solution
was so easy once I found out. In Adobe Reader, there is an option to check for new updates. When I clicked this, I received a message that there were no new updates. Googling the right question brought me to an actual Adobe page that had a link to some updates. (Not sure why the program didn't find these). I updated my Adobe Reader to 7.0.5 and now have no troubles viewing the movie.
I found this solution on this page -- http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/331566.html

(PHP Community) Keywords: php, google
I should probably know this but it's hard to google for
what's the difference when using classes in php between saying object::method() and object->method()
also, while i'm on the subject, what's the significance of beginning a method with "__" as in $object->__get() - i guess this is a naming convention, but i can never get why you would use __get() over just get(); i'm just not sure what that implies
thanks

Picasa + codec problem
Date: 03/17/06
(Computer Geeks) Keywords: google
Hi,
Anyone can tell me how picasa 2 (the one from google) got anything to do with video codecs? I installed ace mega codec pack (player install, not all codecs) on my computer. After that I can't get my picasa open. It just crashes with windows send/dont send error report. If I uninstall Ace mega codec pack, it works just fine. Ok so, how I know which codec is doing this? Ace Mega codec pack has like million codecs and I'm not very willing to try them all one at the time. I'm getting tired of constant install/uninstall thing everytime I want to watch a movie or watch pictures. This problem is driving me nuts! Anyone know better codec pack than Ace? Thanks guys and girls.

My bosses want several videos to be available on our website, and I'm trying to get them set up as embedded flash videos (flv), a la video.google.com or www.youtube.com. Right now I have a one-hour long video, encoding using ON2 VP6 at 400 k (planning to do a high quality\low quality thing.) According to flash, this is going to take around 18 hours. Is that normal? Should I expect to devote several weeks of processor time to encoding these videos (there are several we need to put up,) or am I doing something wrong?

Free Anti-Virus Solution

Ok guys, me again for another question
I've just cancelled my yearly subscription to McAfee Anti-Virus and Security Suite. I'm currently using Zone-Alarm for a free firewall solution, but I'm haven't found a free AV solution yet.
Are there any sites or products that you guys can recommend to me? I've heard a lot of Avast and AntiVir Personnal, but are there any other reputable and reliable ones? Is there any online studies and comparison between the various detection rules and whatnot?
I'd like to google for it... but I found more questionable content and products than anything...

Limited or No Connectivity error message
Date: 04/05/06
(Computer Geeks) Keywords: google
Heya folks,
I just got broadband today. Go me! Anyway, As soon as I got connected, I got this message on the taskbar that went "This connection has limited or no connectivity. You might not be able to access the Internet or some network resources. For more information, click this message."
Well, I could access the internet and my average download speed without download managers is around 50-60kb/s on a 512kbps subscription. I've googled the problem and it seems like machines with Windows XP SP2 are affected. I've downloaded and applied the patch, but it's still there. Should I be concerned about it? Or could I just go right ahead and turn it off?
As you guys could prolly tell, it's the first time I've ever had broadband at home (*single tear*). I don't really know what kind of speed I should expect from this kind of connection.
Thanks in advance!

Flash Website Needed
Date: 04/06/06
(WebDesign) Keywords: web, google
Hello all. I'm a photographer (soon to graduate) who needs a flash website made for an online portfolio. Firstly, I'm not sure where to look in terms of finding somebody other than a random google search. I'm also not sure what to expect in terms of prices. I understand some sites can cost thousands of dollars, and I certainly can't afford that as a student. What should I expect and where do I start? Thanks!
