OS restorations

Do I need a backup/recovery disc if one day, Windows doesn't start?
I've had one with all my previous PCs with all the drivers etc. on it, but my new PC does not have one!
Using that F10 malarky, I can apparently restore Windows without a disc... so if I don't need some kind of Windows disc, what about the drivers?
Click Start > All Programs > System Recovery > Recovery Media Creator
You will be presented with a “Welcome” screen. Click Continue.
You will be shown some information about the creation process. Click Continue and follow the on-screen instructions.
Click Start Creation to create your System Recovery CD Set.
The recovery creation software will advise you how many blank CDs/DVDs you will need to create your System Recovery set. A DVD has a much higher capacity than a CD and will require less discs.
You will then be asked to insert a blank disc into your computer. Label this CD “Recovery CD 1” and then insert it into your DVD/CD Rewriter drive.
Once you have inserted your blank disc the process should continue – If it does not, click OK to continue.
The creation process will continue until you are prompted for a 2nd CD. Label this CD “Recovery CD 2” and then insert it into your DVD/CD Rewriter drive.
Once the disc creation has completed you will see a “Congratulations” screen. Click OK and the program will exit.
You have now created a complete set of Recovery disc(s) for your computer. These discs will allow you to restore your computer in case of any problems with your Windows® XP software.
Keep these discs in a safe place.
Is that just backing up programs & files? Or drivers too? I've Googled my brains out trying to find something but it's all really unhelpful :s

MUP.sys issue
Date: 03/14/07
(Computer Geeks) Keywords: google
So....I just got my new notebook last week (asus w7j). It came prepartitioned into 2 drives both fat32, I converted them using an asus utility then made the mistake of trusting partitionmagic to merge the 2 together. Now, I can't get into safe mode and it hangs up on MUP.sys.
Anyone deal with this issue before?
I googled around a few forums and nothing has been able to fix the issue. I'm ready to fdisk his bad boy.
Ideas?

template blues
Date: 03/15/07
(WebDesign) Keywords: php, software, html, web, google
I need an easy method of adding template-like content such as headers into websites, with the following requirements: I want to be able to change the contents of the template and reapply it to all the pages which use it, and I DO NOT want to use anything that requires a script be run every time the page loads. That is to say, I'd like to be able to take care of this before I even upload the webpages and not rely on php includes and the like.
It would seem to me that this is something lots of people might want do do. Even if not fully automated it should make static html sites easier to maintain and dynamic websites more efficient, but I haven't had much luck finding any information, much less a development environment which would automate it. Plenty of stuff lets you apply a template, but I don't think any of what I've looked at lets one change the template and then reapply it.
Every google search I do looking for information on this dumps me at Smarty's doorstep, but if I'm reading their website properly, Smarty is a caching engine and something constantly running, which is close to the exact opposite of what I want. If I recall correctly, dreamweaver does something like what I'm looking for, but I don't really want to buy proprietary software, especially not when I'd mostly be paying for wysiwyg functionality I don't need or want.
Am I missing something very obvious (don't say frames, please), is this common and I'm not reading program helpfiles properly (doh), am I mistaken that anyone would want to do this, or what?

Vista help needed
Date: 03/16/07
(Microsoft Windows) Keywords: software, microsoft, google
Hello all. I'm about to ask three really dumb questions, but I'm not a computer whiz, so please bear with me.
I just upgraded from XP to Vista. Mistake number one, as I did it by myself.
So... after a rocky installation, I have the following problems:
1) It erased all my software. I can locate things like Word and Excel, but it tells me they aren't configured. Is there a way to do this without re-installing the software? I ask because I'm far away from the installation disks right now (at school, discs are at mum's).
2) My sound isn't working. When I attempt to do anything involving sound, I get the following message: "The computer cannot play audio because the Windows Audio Service is not enabled. Would you like to enable the Windows Audio Service?" And I click 'Yes' and it takes me to the Sound menu. There, it says my VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller is working and enabled. There is no option to enable the Windows Audio Service though... any thoughts?
3) My Windows Live Messenger doesn't work. Apparently the system is stable and running, but I keep getting the following error code when I attempt to log in: "81000314". According to my google search, this might mean that Softpub.dll may have become unregistered. It suggests to register softpub.dll. Any insight into how I might go about doing this?
I appologize if these are really elementary questions... but I'm stumped. I've run available updates and searched the internet and microsoft.com at length, but no one is speaking my language (read: Dumb).

Open Source or cheap timeline generator
Date: 03/22/07
(Web Development) Keywords: html, web, google
Hi, I'm trying to add a dynamic timeline to my website temp location: http://members.shaw.ca/lord_breetai/sakura
Basically I'm looking for something that would automatically sort events based on time allow me to color code, and preferably put in graphics, and spit out html code.
Sure I could code something myself but it would be a pain to put events in sequence and such... and I'm just not that patient.
Since this is a timeline for a video game/animation series, events are subject to change as Sega deems fit and it would be too hard to keep up with a scratch built webpage. I've been trying to google something up, but havn't found anything good yet. If someone can help that would be great.
Money is a big issue here, so something open source or free would be good. Or something cheap, less then 100 USD.

How To Reset Google AdSense Password

Strangely the most obvious means to reset Google AdSense password may not work for you. By obvious I mean the link on AdSense login page: I cannot access my account. The first link on that page, if followed, is: I forgot my password. Obviously any sane person would think that is the way to change [...]
