1. Google Search Customized

    Has anyone try this?
Making Google a search engine with standards

I tried to implement it this morning, with no success, the result keep coming out 'no result'.

The Google API key was just generated, so it's impossible if one said it has consumed 1000 queries.

If you have try it in the past, what could be the culprit?

  2. Error 1005

Date: 08/02/07 (MySQL Communtiy)    Keywords: mysql, database, sql, microsoft, google

This one's got me at the end of my rope, and none of the answers I'm finding searching in the many places I've searched have given me any help, so I'll ask you guys.

First off: I am brand new (as in a couple of weeks) to MySQL, after moving to Ubuntu (Feisty) at home. (Goodbye Microsoft.) I'm a SQL Server DBA/DWA/Database Developer/jack-of-all-trades at work, so I do have some DB experience, just not with MySQL.

Anyway, I've created a schema and the tables in it. Now I'm trying to relate those tables. All use the InnoDB engine.* The guinea pigs I'm using are the BOOK and AUTHOR tables, and I'm trying to relate the ID field in AUTHOR to the AUTHORID field in BOOK. (And, yes, I've tried changing the name of ID to AUTHORID with no success.) Both are type INT. ID/AUTHORID is an ident-seeded primary key. AUTHORID in the BOOK table is a foreign key. Or it's supposed to be, but when I try to relate them, I get the infamous error 1005 (can't create table './directory/filename.frm'). I've found extensive discussion on this at ubuntuforums, forums.mysql.com, and a number of blogs, and have checked everything I've found, modified everything I can, and I still get the error. Basically, if you search on "error 1005" on google and check the first 150 non-repeating pages that come up, I've tried/checked everything that comes up to no avail. I'm at a loss for what do do next, and hoping someone has some ideas.

Also, I tried running a MySQL instance on my XP machine at work, created the exact same tables the exact same way, and tried the relation. It worked on the first try without a hitch.

If anyone's got some help, I'd be truly grateful. Thanks. If more info is needed, I'll report back tonight when I'm actually sitting at my Ubuntu machine.

    * As a side note, for philosophical purposes only: why are there so many available engines that don't support foreign keys? Do that many people create non-relational databases? Just wondering.

Well, now the portal is messed up, and I have no idea how to make the dividers appear. Could someone help me?

I ran HijackThis but can't find anything that would be affecting any of my browsers. I've run LavaSoft's Ad-Aware with the latest updates and a full system scan with Avast Home with latest updates as well. Nothing is detected. I ran SpyBot Search and Destroy and nothing was detected either.

  11. Show/Hide and change onClick?

Date: 08/09/07 (Web Development)    Keywords: google

I'm working on a glossary page, using an unordered list.

You click 'A' and all 'A' terms show, click 'B' and only 'B' terms show, etc.

I've got the show/hide part working. What I'm trying to do now is make it so that when you click on the letter it becomes *BOLD* - I'm running out of google terms to use.

So I click 'A' and it's bold, showing 'A' terms until I click 'B' which then 'B' is bold.

Anyone care to point me the way? Thanks.

  12. Pay-for-Download PDFs

Date: 08/10/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: oscommerce, database, google, shopping

My Google-fu is mostly failing me on this one. I need to provide a PDF for download, payment via PayPal. I'd very much prefer that the payment automatically validate and set up a username/password for downloading, so I'm looking for something more than a simple PayPal button.

It's just one PDF, so the usual shopping carts I've used (like osCommerce) are really overkill. I found and tried ipnDownload, but so far I can't make it function - it'll add items to the database, but when I send and it processes payments, it doesn't produce an email to the purchaser, add them as users, or record the transaction, so there's no download possible. I'm attempting to sort through the code and figure out what's going wrong, but it's taking a very long time.

Any suggestions for other similar snippet programs or experience with the same error in this one greatly appreciated.

I can load the computer when it says Last Known Good Configuration( Your most recent settings that worked)

I tried running a virus scan with Norton, and it wouldn't work. I tried uninstalling it through the control panel, and it would just get to the blue screen. I restarted the computer again with Last Know Good Configuration, and uninstall Norton using Norton removal tool, thinking I could just install it. Of course I couldn't reinstall Norton. I have looked all over Google for answers but I am confused even more.

  19. Hunting for invalid markup/ATM Subsystem Failure (DWCS3)

Date: 08/25/07 (Web Development)    Keywords: web, google

Hello all, new person here-- I go by Mer or Azurite, whatever strikes your fancy.
I've got Dreamweaver CS3, because I love Dreamweaver and have been using it since v.4. Some things I'm still learning, like code rewriting and "applying source formatting." I'm thinking that when I click "Apply Source Formatting" in my Commands menu, it's supposed to do all the code-rewrite things that are set in my Preferences (I'm on a Mac, if that helps), but I'm never sure if it actually WORKS.

Long story short, I seem to have a lot of invalid markup-- emphasis tags, to be precise. They have opening tags but no closing tags, and I have no way of finding them unless I'm peering exceptionally close at the code or I randomly discover a large "space" where the invalid markup tag < ! > would be, if it ever actually DISPLAYED anywhere besides the Property Inspector!

Is there any way of hunting down that invalid markup? I have plenty of emphasis tags that are perfectly closed and nested, so I don't want to do a run-of-the-mill Search, but it doesn't seem as if there's a way to search for a specific tag that DOES NOT have a closing tag to go with it (where one is necessary).

    Any ideas?

Also, slightly different subject, same program: has anyone ever encountered the "catastrophic" ATM Subsystem Error before? I got it twice today, but restarting the program both times let me get into it. A Google search of the error didn't return many results in English pertaining to CS3, and on Adobe's website, it couldn't find anything under that search string. I was wondering if other DWCS3 users may have encountered it and if so, what they did.
