This is driving me batty!
Date: 08/28/07
(Computer Geeks) Keywords: software, google
I have a problem with Windows Media Player 11. It was working the way I wanted it to all of twenty minutes ago, and now it's borked.
This is how I want it to look:

See how when the library is on Album view, the albums just display as images and aren't grouped into any category (alphabetically or otherwise)?
Mine is doing this all of a sudden:

I want the stupid groupings gone. I have so little music on this computer that the groupings just take up a ton of extra space. Can I make them go away? I'm 99% sure when I opened WMP11 this afternoon, it wasn't grouping them like that...how can I get it back?
I've googled to no avail.
And please don't tell me that "your problem is that you're using Windows Media Player". I'm not asking for alternative media management software. I'd like to know how to fix the software I'm using.
Thanks in advance.

Senderbase and apparent false spam accusations
Date: 08/29/07
(Computer Help) Keywords: google
Hi,
Here's an amended version of my previous, deleted post. It might be just coincidence, but since the power came back on after an outage yesterday, I haven't been able to send email with Outlook 2003 (I'm running XP SP2). I get an error message saying that I've been blacklisted at senderbase.org, which appears to be true when I put in my IP. Why I've been blacklisted I know not. I don't send an abnormally high volume of email by any means. I run two email accounts (Gmail and university) on Outlook, and they both became blocked at the same time. I've rebooted and reset my cable modem and wireless router. I called my ISP, and they said that if they wanted to block my email for some reason, they could only do that if I were sending email through their email service, with which I don't have an account. Finally, my OS X laptop can send from both email accounts using the Mail application. The IP is the same as my that of desktop (the PC). This leads me to believe that the problem must be with Outlook, but I can't figure out what the problem could possibly be.
The error messages also include 0x800CCC6F errors (sadly, I typed that error number from memory), but Google searches didn't turn up anything that helped me.
Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Abusing RentACoder For Black Hat SEO

I came across an interesting project in RentACoder which is obviously taking advantage of RentACoder to do its dirty job - pushing its critic / competitor to page 2 of Google. The project specification is as belows:

Lost Windows XP Admin Password
Date: 09/02/07
(Computer Help) Keywords: google
I did the dumbest thing! I got mad at my boyfriend and said, "You can't use my computer anymore!" and put a password for Windows. Unfortunately, that was over a week ago and I never turned the computer off and it completely slipped my mind. I turned the computer off last night and when I went to turn it back on today, I found that the password was there. I tried, literally, about 120 different things, I'm coming up with nothing. I have no idea what I made it!
I Googled and something said if I do a system restore to a date when the password wasn't there, I should be fine. But how do I do that without being able to get into Windows?
And I don't have a copy of Windows, my computer came with it with no reboot/back-up disk (and I never got the disks to make a backup disk) - so I don't know what to do.
Is there any way around the password?
And, the strangest request of them all, can you text me tips to 401-952-7036? I obviously don't have computer access now (thankfully my brother asked me to babysit tonight, so that's good) - but I do have my cell. You can text me for free at virginmobileusa.com. Or, if you're super smart, you can just call that number, ask for Dave (but we work 3-11 every day), and walk him through fixing it.
Thanks in Advance!!

Compete: Free Website Ranking & Analytics

Compete is a relatively new player in website ranking and third party analytics, a space dominated so far by Alexa rankings and Google PageRank. control panel missing
Date: 09/06/07
(Computer Help) Keywords: virus, google
I recently had a serious virus infection and after running AVG, Spybot, and Ad-Aware in both regular and safe mode about 300,000 times, I finally managed to get rid of it. The only problem is that my control panel is now missing and I can't do anything even though from what I can tell, I'm still logged on as System Administrator. If I double click the time in the system tray or even go to Start/Set Program Access and Defaults, it says, "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."
From what I've googled, Spybot can change some of these things if ran in advanced mode. The only problem is that I never ran it in advanced mode until after my control panel went missing and I've learned the quirky things that Spybot can do.
Does anyone know how I can get my control panel back and what, if anything, I can do in Spybot's advanced mode to change these locked settings?

Char Map
Date: 09/10/07
(Computer Help) Keywords: google
I'm making a poster that I need some greek letters for, and I went to use the character map only to find that apparently I don't have one on my computer at all. I tried to find it through Start -> Run: charmap AND under the accessories where it usually is in Windows XP, no luck. I tried to google the issue and maybe find somewhere to install it but I'm still confused.
I need to finish the poster by Friday and I'm desperate for help, even if this is a stupid question. I thought all computers had the Char Map function but I guess not...
Thanks in advance!

Adobe Flash 9
Date: 09/18/07
(Computer Help) Keywords: software, browser, google
I have a problem installing the latest version of Flash, or rather, I have no problem with the actual installing (the adobe site says it's installed, I see it in the add/remove software list and so on) but it wont play. I've googled a bit and I'm not alone with this issue, but the solution offered doesn't work for me (i.e. close all browser windows, uninstall flash, re-install flash from adobe site/ download software and install manually). Does anyone know of another solution or reason as to why it wont play? More and more sites are using the latest version and it's getting annoying.
(I use Windows XP btw)
Thanks!

Any ideas? I've tried reinstalling Firefox with no luck.

Stab With Spork, Repeat.
Date: 09/23/07
(Computer Geeks) Keywords: google
Well, I think I need to take the computer away from my boyfriend and his brother... They broke it again.
System: Dell XPS Gen5, approx 2 years old
OS: Windows XP Home Ed
So his younger brother shut down the computer the wrong way because he was to lazy to wait for it to shut down the right way. So I turned it back on (later of course) & this wonderful message greeted me:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
C:\windows\system32\config\system
You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup CD-Rom. Select "r" at the first screen to start repair.
So of course I hop on my laptop & Google the hell out of the problem, but nothing I find is working. I really don't want to reformat AGAIN. There's schoolwork & other important files. We could save them last time, but I can't even get into Windows desktop.
I can get into the Recovery Console on the CD, but what to do after that is beyond me. I don't get prompted for select the installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console or a password.
Macrosoft (I know I spelled it wrong) says to type "md tmp". I get "Access is Denied."
Somewhere else said to type "chkdsk"/"chkdsk /p". I get "The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems."
On another page it said to get into the system restore, but I can't...
Same page said I should make the bad hardrive into a slave on another computer, don't have one I can do that with. *pets her laptop* I wouldn't want that thing anywhere near mine anyway.
One said to skip the Recovery Console, & go into the install & use the repair option there, but there was none...
I can follow directions pretty well, any help would be great.

Vista firewall woes
Date: 09/25/07
(IT Professionals) Keywords: software, google
We have a new, Vista-running development machine here, and I'm having some serious firewall issues with it.
Before I join the machine to a domain, I'm able to turn the firewall on and off with a local admin account. Once I join a domain, I am unable to turn it on, to the tune of "Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall service." However, even after I leave the domain (and am only in a work group), I am unable to start the service. This is a clean install of Vista Business.
Is this a "that's how Vista works" issue, or is there something more here? I've Googled my greasy little heart out on this.
Thanks for reading.
**EDIT - I need the firewall service to be running for the remote admin software that's on the machine.
