Stressed at what to do here
Date: 08/03/06
(Computer Help) Keywords: browser, web, spyware, spam
Hi. A few weeks ago I was using Internet Explorer as my web browser and I noticed these popups kept showing up:
http://s88.photobucket.com/albums/k193/AutumnRoseAngel/Popups/
So I removed IE and switched to Firefox, but I soon noticed that Firefox kept messing up on some of my pages, but no more popups.
So I'm reconsidering Firefox and moving to Netscape. I'll just try Netscape on here, I've used it at school and it works fine there.
What's the best way to remove spyware/spamware? What programs should I use?

1st problem is getting background images to stretch correctly with MSIE
2nd problem is overflow: auto with MSIE. Is there a work around for this?
I used the CSS trick with absolute and z-index to make the background image 100%x100%

Inbox obliterated
Date: 08/18/06
(Mozilla) Keywords: spam
I turned on my computer this morning, got Thunderbird started on checking my mail, & went to get some coffee. When I returned, my computer was in mid-reboot..come to find out that Windows Update had been busy updating. Grr.
I open Thunderbird, & it just hangs there.."program not responding"..sheesh. Close it, open it back up (and it appears to open okay), set it to check mail, & am a bit concerned when my inbox appears empty..hmm okay, maybe it's taking a minute to load up. Nope..one single e-mail (spam, no less) loads up & that's it..all of the previously existing contents of my inbox had vanished.
Is there any way I can recover these (some very important) e-mails or am I screwed? Oh, I'm running Windows XP Home, for the record.

Photo submission form question
Date: 08/31/06
(Web Development) Keywords: spam
I've been asked to set up a photo submission form that will collect obituary photos with obituary notices and be emailed to one of my co-workers. I've never done this, and while I think I know the mechanics, I would like to ask here exactly what is involved in creating a photo submission form and what I should know. I already know very well how to set up a regular message submission form with validation and protection against hacking/spamming. I just feel that a photo submission form is somewhat different. Am i wrong?
Also, examples that I can modify for our use would be nice.
Thank you for your help!

open source Email class/system
Date: 09/08/06
(PHP Community) Keywords: css, html, web, spam
Instead of trying to roll my own solution, anyone know of a reliable IMAP/POP mail reader to be used in the back end of a website. What I am doing is dedicating a email account on the server to receiving incoming articles. On the command of the web Admin or a crontab script, the email's would be parsed/validated, with emails not from another account on the website being ignored, and then checking for something like "@PASSWORD='password'" on the first line. If thats passes, any embedded, attached img's would be parsed into jpg/png, the email body would be copied into a .htm file, and then authorized by the web admin.
The reason for doing this is that a lot of the content writers are clueless about HTML/CSS so I want to make it really easy for them to be able to publish articles onto the website using something simple like a email client as a WYSIWYG editor. I am going to use a fairly long email account name to try and avoid random spam and put in filter to reject any email that doesn't originate from the same server. Otherwise I am putting the KCEditor in the admin section as a another way of writing up articles.

In a Spanish portal we have, we are getting a lot of email and comments spam written in Chinese that comes out as glibberish. I've been trying to find a way to block it by blocking messages not written in latin charsets but I can't find exactly how. Do you have any idea, please? The problem is getting out of hand.
Many thanks in advance.

CAPTCHA and FormMail?
Date: 10/15/06
(WebDesign) Keywords: asp, spam
Hey everyone,
Have been finding that I am getting a lot of spam via FormMail on sites lately. I've been using FormMail as opposed to JMail (Yes, ASP)
I want to use CAPTCHA with the contact form so I can get rid of these spambots, but have not used one of these scripts before.
Form -> FormMail.asp -> Thanks.asp
Form is the form (duh)
FormMail.asp processes the form
Thanks.asp acknowledges the form entry
SpamBot should be unable to get the form processed if they do not enter the CAPTCHA code on the form.
Any insight as to where to put things where is appreciated. I've come across a few free CAPTCHA scripts for ASP but they have examples of "This is a valid entry" and "This is not a valid entry", which does nothing for me.
I think the logic for what I am trying to do is:
If CAPTCHA="right code"
Then Process Form
Else Don't process form
If anyone can help with this, it would be appreciated. I am sure there's others out there with the same problem.
